Thread: Can anyone make sense of this story which occurred at Aria?

The story involves a woman who stayed at Aria over the summer, supposedly promised 10 comp nights, which then turned into a bill where her host said she was only promised 3.

Then she shamed them on WABC-TV (New York) into comping the rest off.

It's not even clear who is in the right in this one. Any ideas?

Let's see....2 people fly to LV from NY with no copy of a clearly written comp nights offer, and expect to get 10 free nights because they secretly record a $15/hour clerk telling them so?

Then, after only getting 3 of the 10 nights comped, they go whining to their home town TV station for a refund?

Why do people like this even bother to go to places they obviously can't afford? Don't they have more pressing things going on in their lives than hoping they can squeeze through something that clearly will hurt them if they can't?

But I can see why this story gets Dan's "You done me wrong--now I'm gonna GIT you back for it!" juices going.

It's the Clerk's fault for telling them they had 10 comped nights. It's not their fault at all.

So, how do YOU think that this is NOT the Clerk's fault?

The woman claims the host texted them and said they had all 10 nights comped.

I don't know if she's telling the truth.

If he really did text that, she's in the right.

If she misunderstood, or if her entire case hinged upon confusing a clueless front desk employee into wrongly telling her she had all the nights comped, then her case was flimsy.

I will say that it's not unusual for a host to act scummy when a player doesn't put in the expected action, so I could see shenanigans occurring.

I'm sure there's a clause qualification not known. I get $80/free play. The catch? It's divided between 6 days. Just drooling to get my $15 free play Friday!

As much as I hate to take Aria's side, I think it's more likely that they were in the right here.

In the text messages reproduced on the TV report, the host wrote something like "I only promised 3 days, and you can check our previous texts to confirm", or something like that.

Conveniently, the TV report never showed any text from the host confirming 10 comped nights, which as I mentioned in the Pokerfraudalert thread I linked, is highly unusual for a host to promise up front.

I think they either got confused and then a further confused employee verified what they thought they had, or they were pulling shenanigans the whole way, attempting to take advantage of a dumbass front desk employee and hold her to something she misunderstood.

If this had happened to me and I had a text trail backing my story, I would have been posting the text messages from that host everywhere (even if I redacted his info), but for some reason she isn't sharing that.

Okay now that you've put much more light on this, I can see why Rob Singer responded to me the way he did. Them possibly tricking the Clerk didn't even cross my mind.

If this was a legitimate offer, wouldn't it have shown on the online reservation?
I've only had 5 nights comped at Mlife, promised by a host, but the online reservation reflected that, showing all nights free and the total balance due of $0.
I've had longer stays at CET properties and again the online reservation has always reflected what was promised. The one I remembering was 7 nights with 5 comped upfront with the other two backend comped based on play. Reservation online showed 5 nights free and 2 with cost associated.

Isn't this how this is supposed to work and wouldn't someone who was enough of a gambler to participate in WSOP know this?

I find it a little odd that they went down and recorded the Clerk. It's as if they knew there was a mistake and they knew the clerk would confirm it(perhaps they already did so on the phone).

Whatever the case, mistake or not, once an employee told them they would get them all comped the casino should have to honor that.

Dan did imply that they may have tricked the Clerk which actually makes sense. I wonder if the Clerk that they recorded got severly reprimanded for that. It be kind of like if some Scammer tricked me into doing an unauthorized financial transaction over the phone. If it gets traced back to me, I'd get severly reprimanded and the Scammer gets the money...
