Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one.
You were channeling a city supervisor of any major U.S. city saying something to other city staff behind closed doors there for a moment Axel.
    I'm totally lost here

Axel, I think tableplay meant that your implied joke about everyone knows you're not supposed to feed the animals was right on the money. Without a reporter or the public around too hear, almost every big shot public official in the big cities will badmouth the homeless in private. I think tableplay was right.

How was that intenional hijacking? I made a valid post about cleaning up homeless people and giving them jobs! I then said that homeless people should be put in Rehab and Mental Health Hospitals instead of jail of jail when Axel pointed out that many homeless people had drug and or mental problems and therefore couldn't be given jobs. I talked about a Homeless Episode of Mama's Family that showed how easy it is to go from successful to homeless Prisoner! That Mama's Family episode was highly realistic and was about Homeless people, so no, that wasn't intentional hijacking....

that makes sense, thank you for the explanation.

The problem is... we let this s*** get out of hand, it should have nipped it in the bud long ago, unfortunately, I don't think there's any going back no, at least not without some extreme very controversial measures.

Fuck you Mcap! You are even worse than Boz! And I'd rather deal with 1,000 Wizard Of Nothings from WOV from 2017-very early 2019 than deal with one of you!

Bosox, your interpretation of what I wrote is exactly right.

Mental health funding was defunded in the early 80's so many mentally ill people at facilities were released into the streets. And furthermore, it didn't help when the ACLU pushed for legislation which makes it very difficult to help a mentally ill homeless relative/spouse. Unless the person is at your throat with a weapon, you cannot commit the person unless they want to be committed. I understand that you wouldn't want people committing other people out of spite, but there has to be some mechanism in place to get someone help when they can't make sound decisions for themselves for their well-being.

So sad that there is enough money to pay Celebrities millions of dollars but not enough to help out mentally ill people. Tragic.

You're the one who started this shit insulting me when I was actually posting serious replies such as how quickly a successful person can end up a Homeless Prisoner and how homeless people need to be helped out, not just thrown into jail!

The homeless camps around downtown LV were broken up years ago over the building of the Fremont Street Experience. They got around "panhandling is free speech" by charging people with blocking the sidewalk. I know someone that was charged with "blocking a loading zone." The loading zone in question was a dock on the back of a business that had been shuttered for years. The bicycle cops would run off people sitting on bus benches if they looked homeless.
    Luck is probability taken personally.

Here's one where a woman was charged with snoring too loud:

So I am sympathetic to the homeless. But the homeless situation in Las Vegas is WAY out of control, as I am sure it is in most other major cities. Places in California and Arizona have been caught shipping homeless people to Vegas with a one way ticket. Like I said, it's just out of control.

Las Vegas is about tourism and you just can't have the homeless epidemic that is the current situation, in the downtown and strip (and just off strip) tourist areas. Tourists literally have to step over homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk. Have you been to Main Street along side Golden Gate, across the street from The Plaza? Absolutely disgusting. It will drive tourism down if it hasn't already. And that is the bread and butter of the Vegas economy. You just can't allow that.

In addition to the casino tourist area, homeless is now rampant in all areas of metropolitan Las Vegas Valley, including the nicer areas of Summerlin and Henderson. I watched last months city council meeting on TV, and there were numerous business owners that showed videos of what they have to clean up every morning just to open their business. That isn't fair to these folks who sink their hard earned money into their businesses.

So something had to be done. Obviously these people won't have the money to pay fines, so they will be locked up for 6 months. How is the county going to afford that? I also don't know that criminalizing homelessness is the answer. But I honestly don't know what the answer is. Something had to be done.
It has become a huge problem in most big cities all over the country especially during the summer months. I just think that to get a better handle on a shitty problem they cannot allow people to camp/sleep on the sidewalks or parks. It sounds harsh but the alternative as seen in SF, LA, & Vegas is not the answer. If you allow people to camp in public you get more of it. That is not charity, itís subsidizing a huge problem and making it much worse. Big problem.

Not to be argumentative, but I would like to suggest another point of view. Why does everyone automatically assume that being homeless is a problem? The noted Greek philosopher Diogenes had no home and lived in the public square in Athens. Alexander the Great, a student of philosophy, visited Diogenes and asked if he could do anything for him. It was cold that day and Diogenes reply was, "Don't stand between me and the sun". Rather than being angered by Diogenes' reply, Alexander (at the time the most power/richest man in the world) noted, "If were not Alexander, I would have been Diogenes". Buddha and Jesus of Nazareth are other obvious examples.

I wonder how Alexander might have reacted had he seen Diogenes pull down his pants and take a crap in broad daylight right in front of the restaurant window he was eating lunch in....That is the kind of shit you see daily in Downtown Los Angeles

The "Gentle Grafter" would have grabbed a few napkins and gone outside to wipe his ass, while the homeless bum said "If you had stayed inside the sun would have eventually dried out my asshole, making for a tasty crunchy meal for other starving, drug-addicted degenerates like me".

It's an interesting coincidence that you made this remark. Diogenes frequently ended his lectures in Athens by doing just that. So, in truth, Alexander would not have been offended. Diogenes was a gifted speaker and folks just ignored his eccentricities. Of course, they would not have been so forgiving if they knew that fecal matter spreads diseases. I was merely attempting to point out that different people/cultures have different perspectives and we should not assume that someone who is homeless automatically needs assistance.
