I didn't have health insurance when I had the heart attack on Nov. 11, 2019. When I was in the hospital their accountant came to talk to me. She had me file for social security the day after I left the hospital. I was 66 years 6 months old at that point. Then she had the health care coverage retro-activated to Nov 1, 2019. Medicare pays for most of my meds and they just sent me some paperwork where I'm eligible for Part D which will cover more of the med bill. What I'm paying is a pittance compared to the retail prices I see on the receipts when I pick up the meds.

What I'm concerned about is I think Medicare is part of the problem. Big pharma has these high prices because medicare is paying for most of it. It's like how college tuition started skyrocketing when it became so easy to get student loans. So besides ripping off people that don't have health insurance big pharma is ripping of the tax payers.

I doubt anyone pays the retail price for meds or anything else health related. I think those costs are billed so high for negotiating purposes with the insurance companies. Another unintended consequence of medicare/private insurance is the shift from hospital care to keeping us alive with meds. It does cost a lot of dough for R&D.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

My eliquis is fifty balloons with my not very good insurance but you can sign up on their website for a discount where you don't pay more than ten bucks per month. You have to have private commercial health insurance to qualify so you can't get it on medicare.

Even if the whole world had the US system it would not drive down the market price here, as far as I can see.

You're calling for price fixing, of course that's a socialist solution.
Trump is asking big pharma to lower prices. He's not asking for a price fix.

Micky, I'm far more likely to vote for people who will *actually* do something about it.

My issue is expecting Trump to do something, when he has not taken on any American company to any significant degree. To believe he is going to take on pharma-companies? They're not just going to fall over and let price controls take over. The guy panders to the working class and thats it. Where has he done anything that has been anti-Amercan corporation and pro-worker? <crickets>

Look, "get behind Trump" means "vote for Trump". No fucking way. Now if he has some actual plan to fix the medical system in this country then I'll support him in that endeavor just like anything else I agree with.

Anyway, I wish you the best with your medications. I'm only being contrarian because of all the shit I've heard and continue to hear.

So AT BEST they lower prices 20% then raise them back up after election year? You think this is really going anywhere significant?

They're going to keep those prices high as long as patent law allows them to milk every drop they can due to their hard earned R&D. Right! ???

Big pharma isn't scared of Trump. He has no leverage over them.

So last job I had I worked for a guy. Was diagnosed with narcolepsy in adulthood after having severe issues through school. I'm not sure about the drugs but he finally found something that worked, GHB. So he was a highly functional guy who had made a lot of money on his own, but it basically required a mixture of GHB and modafinil. Now GHB used to be a *solvent* and i'm sure still is. You could buy it as some sort of cleaner in electronics stores. THen you can get drunk off it (or some similar state.. relaxed is my understanding). It is a cheap chemical. Few dollars a bottle or whatever.

Well now some company realized GHB could be used for narcolepsy and did a study. THen they have a patent on GHB as a medication and somehow exclusive rights. My boss paid 10k+ a month. IIRC, 10k was his insurance's deductible, but guaranteed 100% it was at least 10k a month.

Now thats some real American ingenuity there, but you can point many ways in which the whole thing is fucked. but LOL.

Trump: "If you move your company out of the United States then you can expect tariffs on products you sell in the United States." That is taking on American companies to a very high degree. Those companies decided not to leave the US. Trump is taking on big pharma as we speak. He's asking them to lower prices and he is enlisting the American people in the effort, hence the ads on TV. We'll see what happens. Maybe not you though. I dont' think you care.

Man triple post tilt but I see so much going on. The REASON meds are so expensive is because of how supply/demand works. When medication manufacturers are given exclusive rights, then they're going to charge whatever the market will bear. It is your health, what could possibly be worth your money more than that ? (outside of food/shelter) You have no choice.

Just like you have little choice when you show up at an ER. They won't even give you the prices for things. They just pile it on. Capitalism only works when there is some form of price discovery. When you 'shop around'. This doesn't happen that often in healthcare and healthcare providers don't even really make it possible AFAIK. But yea, capitalism fixes everything! okey dokey

I don't have a problem with finances. I have six figure bankroll. My position on the cost of prescription drugs is not about me. I can well afford them. It's about others. What if a middle class person is faced with paying $1000 a pill and the insurance won't pay for it?

Where did you get the idea that I'm some kind of arch conservative? You didn't get it from me. Harping on the ills of to much socialism does not make one far right. Those in the middle, like me, can also rail against it. I think the country currently has the right blend of socialism and capitalism. No more socialism needed or wanted. To much is bad for the country. It destroys the incentive to produce.

Quit making the shit up as you go. I've already stated that medicare is paying for my meds. And I will say again. My position on prescription drug prices is not about me. It's about others who are being gouged. I suspect there is windfall profits involved. It needs to end.

Had a planned appointment with my nurse practitioner today. Everything went well. I don't have to see her again for two months. That's good. It gives me some daylight to do some traveling. I have an appointment with the cardiologist a week from today. I want him to tell me the same thing, two months before next appointment. More daylight.

It's a sad truth that if someone can't access a particular med because of price then they must suffer and die.

I got bad news today from the cardiologist. The A-Fib is back. I've been short of breath for a few days and knew something was up. Now, instead of going to Vegas I'm going to the hospital.

Wishing you the best, mickey. Glad the cardiologist caught it.
