Heavy Hitter Bryce Carlson on GWAE podcast:

If you searched the world really really hard, you might find a couple guys better than him at BJ card counting.

Loved the show. Amazing that there are still ways to prosper at BJ. Would it pay to get an updated version of "BJ for Blood"?

I didn't realize an updated version was available (the copy I lost was from the 90's) - yes I think it would be worth it.

Unfortunately, I have never had much interaction with Mr. Carlson. He participates occasionally at Norm's forum and I think I may have interacted with him once or twice when I was at that forum. Nor did I read BJ for Blood. The books from the 80's and 90's are pretty much redundant covering the same basics (exception BJA3) and I just didn't get to Blackjack for Blood before some of the others.

But it was clear from very limited interactions with Mr. Carlson that he was legit and knew how to win. And just listening a few minutes of this broadcast re-confirms that.

There are basically two ways to attack today. Slash and burn, which popped up when there was all the casino expansion 10-15 years ago. Just hit a casino as hard as you can for as long as they will allow you and then move on to the next casino, town or location. Many players took this approach and just didn't last long. 6 months, a year, and they were burned out everywhere. The problem is you can't stay ahead of the technology and databses.

The second approach is Mr. Carlson's approach, which is basically identical to my own, although it sound like I play even shorter sessions. It is about identifying and playing levels that are better tolerated and moderate spreads and avoiding backoffs altogether. Not trying to trick anyone, or fly under the radar, just remain in "comfort level", that doesn't cause too much trouble for anyone (like pit). I am a little surprised to find out so many players playing this way, focusing on longevity. When I moved to Vegas and adopted this approach, I was reading about all these guys adopting Slash & Burn and making big money for a year or so at best. I never read about anyone focusing on Longevity. Now it seems most successful players are more focused on longevity and incorporate things that lend to that.

And for the nay-sayers out there, usually talking out their ass, who say stupid things like card counting no longer works, Mr. Carlson re-confirms that it still does. You just have to work at it and maybe tweak some things from yesteryear, like escape at least some of the negative counts. But the math remains the same.

I always like to hear from some of the players, older than myself recounting some of the "good old days", especially here in Vegas. I have always been fascinated with "old" Vegas and a little jealous that I didn't get to experience that time. I suppose in 30 years some of us will look back and think 2020 was the good old days.

BJ players ain't got nothing on MDawG. He wins EVERY TIME he comes to Vegas from that mixed-up state of California...and he wins BIG. He ain't afraid of eyes-in-the-sky, slick pit bosses, slutty floor queens who make his "young" wife look like the cheap skank that she obviously is, or tough forum police.

Rob showing once again that he’ll stoop lower than anyone, every time.

I listened to the podcast and Carlson basically said he made up a count for the sole reason of writing a book.

A correction is in order for your first sentence, Dan. What I previously wrote was not a message, nor did the person ask me to post the quote. The reason for me making the now deleted post was that I felt it was a relevant point regarding maintaining game conditions for the future of blackjack. No different than you would do if you felt you read something worthy regarging the game of poker.
