Thread: Last days of Circus Circus/slopts of fun

  1. #1
I made my semi-annual visit to Circus Circus to collect my $15 free money (wincard promotion). I entered through slots of fun, which was basically empty of machines and people. I took note that the 5 seat video blackjack game (the one that is countable for a small +EV) was gone. Unrelated the same 5 seat video blackjack game was switched out at El Cortez this week, replaced by a newer 3 seat video blackjack machine. I have no idea if this newer machine is countable, so if someone wants to let me know, I am all ears.

So as I signed up for the winchip or wincard promotion in Circus Circus, the guy at the counter told me this promo (available every 6 months) would be discontinued next week when Treasure Island took over. I am not sure if I had heard that TI bought Circus Circus and forgot or hadn't heard it. Dan is usually on top of these things, so I imagine he posted about it although I don't really see such a thread. So anyway, if anyone just has to visit Circus Circus one last time for nostalgia reason, you are down to the final days.

In other news the beer garden or beer patio that has been under construction at Ellis Island for a couple years is now open. Not sure why it took so long to build THAT thing.

I remember hustling back and forth between circus circus and riviera every 20 minutes to play the 2:1 bj intermittent periods at circus and match plays for each pit at riviera less than a decade ago hustling up some money.

It sort of makes me wonder just what TI's plans for the property is. Do they want a low end budget type casino just a few blocks from their main casino?

Of course things are changing on the North strip. (How long have we been saying THAT). Resorts World is definitely going to be completed, although they did just push back opening from 2020 to early 2021. The big Blue Monster project, now named the Drew, has also been pushed back for the ump-tenth time, now scheduled for 2022. I don't believe it. I see no work being done and at this point don't think that place will ever open or be completed. SLS is back to the iconic Sahara brand and name. Not sure what if anything has changed. And the convention center expansion, is well under way....maybe even near completion. It will run all the way out to the strip now from paradise.

So with at least some of these projects well underway and towards completion, it would seem strange to have little OLD rinky dink Circus Circus right there in the middle of it all.

Edit: there also is construction work ground breaking being done on a large lot next to Sahara. That lot also runs from Paradise to the strip. Not sure what is going up there, but it would be between the newer part of the convention center and Sahara Casino.

No I am not familiar with it. I do hit the Plaza at least once a week, but actually haven't been eating at pop up pizza much. Not like I used to. For my money, it is the best. Tell me who is better and I will check it out. also tell me about the promo.

But they have FINALLY cleanup up and cleared out the homeless from that area (across the street from pop up pizza and the greyhound bus).

KJ, have you tried the pizza joint called the Pizza Rock next to the Downtown Grand casino. It has some good online reviews. I'm thinking of making a trip to Las Vegas come spring, do you have any recommendations as to where to stay in the downtown area? I've never been to the downtown area.

Pizza Rock is nothing special. Overpriced and touristy. Very average pizza at best.

I have no idea about recommendations downtown. Maybe Golden Nugget or Plaza just because they seem just a bit nicer than some of the others. Come to think of it, The plaza was remodeled about 4-5 ago and got all the new furniture that had been purchased for the big blue monster (Fontaine Bleu) that never opened.

Maybe Downtown Grand, as they are a block off Fremont might be a little quieter. If you do stay right on Fremont, I would ask for a room away from the Fremont Experience. But that's just me.

So I walked over and read the sign for the construction site that I referenced earlier, next to the Sahara casino.

It is going to be All Net Arena. According to their website, a 22,000 seat multi-purpose Arena with a retractable roof. The website shows a basketball game.

Did Vegas get a NBA team that I am not aware of? Or maybe a case of "if you build it, they will come".

I actually went by slots of fun last trip.. first time in ages. Nothing really there worth seeing. No $5 blackjack or anything like that. They did however have these massage chairs right by the door leading to Circus Circus. $.50 a minute massage I believe. I loved those things. Looked into buying one but they appear to break and people have issues having them repaired...
It is official. Redietz will never be on Dan Druff's podcast. "too much integrity"
