Thread: Vacation Coming To A Close....Nevada Style!

  1. #1
On Tuesday the day after New Year's, our family vacation up here at Lake Tahoe will be over. It was one of those rare opportunities where us along with out two children and their children could spend more than a weekend together. Our son, who's career Army, and his family had to leave 2 days ago and my daughter etc. are leaving today since their new home is now outside Chicago. So that leaves Cindy & I alone once again to ring in the New Year and then take our beautiful little Shih Tzu Porsha back to our RV based in Pahrump for the rest of the witer.

As unusual as this time was for all of us to be able to be together for so long, so too was what went down while we were here--in Nevada. For 3 weeks I was in multiple casinos many times, yet I didn't play even one hand of video poker. But there was that one sports parlay bet on the NFL that I documented here as it unfolded, which I only did after a few hours of analyzing past data on 4 teams in my own way.

So how did it all pan out, financially, since this was probably the most expensive vacation I've ever taken? Well, my win was a nice $49,804. There's a nice Christmas present from northern Nevada casinos! But this large home we rented was 21 nights @ $1150/night....plus taxes, cleaning/repairs deposit, and I opted for the every-other-day housekeeping that I also tipped very nicely for. The overall total--including food & entertainment for everyone since this was entirely on my wife & I--came to around $34,000, so by a stroke of fate this was a trip that turned out to be +$15,000 in the black.

Before coming up here, Lake Tahoe was already our most favorite place in this entire world to visit. No one will ever be able to change my mind now!

Happy New Year Rob! You had a great vacation! Tell me more about the house... $1150 per night? That must be some house, or did you pay the guy's mortgage for a full year?

We needed five bedrooms so it was a 4500 sq. ft. house. It was also right on the lake. I was told the place was worth a couple million because of location. The people who own it are in Europe for the winter so they rent it out via a realty office. I just was lucky findind probably exactly what we needed.

Have a happy new year wherever you spend it!
