I understand.
I know some horse-handicappers who enter online tournaments, and my understanding is that they pay an entry fee
and gamble with their own money.
In addition to the entry fee, they must deposit their own money which they use to bet on races according to a forced-betting tournament structure.
The statement on the Wise Guys page sounded like something similar, and I was trying to find out if it was, and how that would work.
The ditz always mentions the Wise Guys contest as a career highlight, and the only link to his bona fides that he's ever provided.
When he brought it up yet again in this thread, I simply asked if the 2017 contest (where his name was listed among the top finishers) was a free contest.
The ditz could not remember, but he did recall the tournament being a free tournament for a number of years.
The phrase on the top of the Wise Guys page ("this year's contest goes back to its original roots") implies that the contest terms changed for 2018.
2018 Playbook Wise Guys Contest
This is the 33nd year of this competition and this year's contest goes back to its original roots, when the participants paid an entry fee and gambled with their own money.
It remains unclear if the ditz has ever won money in any sports-betting contest that wasn't free to enter, because he can't remember if he did.
