Thread: Ongoing problems at the 4Q's and Binions

  1. #1
Some of you may know that QQQQ's has been having computer issues since Weds. I'm not going to speculate as to causes here, I just want to give a heads up as to current conditions. The restaurants are cash only. No credit cards, no comp dollars. People are playing table games, not so much machines. Many machines are down. 4Q's has the bar tops, around 8 of the JOB in front of the cashier, and the $1 10/7 DDB all up and running. I didn't check the .25 10/7 DDB. So the good VP is up. They are giving hand pays when you cash out, so switching machines a lot will be a pain. Your current points aren't available, but I saw a player at Mike's Bar accumulating new points. My last walk through was close to 5 hours ago.
Same story at Binion's except that the best VP is down. My last walk through was 7 hours ago.

Do people read this forum for this type of info, or is this clutter? I can roll either way.

Restaurants and other places that are cash only are often money laundering fronts. :/
You can go down in History as either a Martyr or a selfish, entitled brat. Make the right choice..

Also I am allowed to make one thread everyday as long as it's not a stupid thread.

    Hi Wasilla,

People appreciate your information and observations. But many in the forum spend a lot of effort feuding with each other and discussing AP plays whether real or imagined.

Personally I think that a Four Queens and Binions meltdown lasting for days should be bigger news than it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was one of those blackmail hackers who freezes the computers unless a bunch of bit coin gets paid.

Thanks FAB. With that in mind I'll update. Less than 3 hours ago I found the QQQQ's to be running normally. You can use comps again, get titos, use credit cards, games are up and running. The Players Club was still off line. So no cards or jeweled rats were being issued.

Let me just add that when I arrived early AM Tuesday at the Orleans, they had signs posted at the coffee shop saying their points/comp system was down and that they could not process points-for-food. It was cleared up by the next afternoon. I had never seen that issue before at the coffee shop.

Huh? Machines can't be "hacked". They're not hooked up to the internet.

Hi Rob. I'm not sure anyone has said that the machines were hacked, but there has been a lot of speculation that their systems were hacked. I'm just going to stick with what I see since I'm really not qualified to adequately speculate.
Front desk says they can't make bookings at 4Q's. Player's Club computers still down at 4Q's. All other 4Q's operations seemed normal at 11pm. It sounded like they expected the remaining issues to be sorted in the morning.
The Binion's restaurant was still unable to accept comps or credit cards. All the machines I saw were up.

Interesting redietz. I had read that other casino's were affected, but yours is the first potential data point.

If anyone has a question that they need answered for a trip within the next few days, I'm happy to look into it. Otherwise, I think that everything will be resolved soon and I will make this my last update.

I know I'm asking a question you may not know. I'm just curious to as what kind of hacks we are talking about and what was the point of hacking? Edit: I think I read something about the hackers getting Ransom? If anybody can shed more details that would be great. were the hackers able to keep the machines from operating properly or just communicating with the players tracking system?

I always assume someone's going to figure out how to hack into the system and add a bunch of free play to hundreds of accounts or some variation of that. If someone did it correctly, it could probably go unnoticed for a very long time.

I don't know. Lots of people are speculating about ransom. It does not appear that the employees have been told anything and are merely speculating themselves. The IT department seemed to prioritize restoring gaming and restaurants. While QQQQ's restaurants are taking credit cards, the front desk still can't run them. While the machines are now accurately reporting and recording comps and points, the players club computers are down and can't cash out points or honor promotions. Machines now give TITOs again, but the cage apparently can't scan them even though it is cashing them. They just became able to accept room charges this afternoon.Machines came back up at different times, for example their are 3 or 4 rows of 9/6 JOD in front of the cashier, but only a couple rows were up when I first checked. I know that you're focused on machines, but this is something that affected far more than machines and the machine issues were one of the first issues fixed.
The March FP is not yet available at either 4Q's or Binion's, which is a bit strange since people were able to access Feb FP once the machines were able to show comps and points. They may well be checking for anomalies.

So maybe one more update. 4Q's had a relapse and things got much worse before getting better. Sometime in the morning machines stopped giving TITOs or being able to display points or comps. The bar tops stayed up, but many went down. Restaurants also couldn't take comps. Currently things are back to the state of my last post with the addition that the players club know has a single working computer. They manually entered my FP and gave me the coveted jeweled rat. People can also get players cards, and I assume you can cash out your points. Just be prepared to wait awhile.

If anyone is hacking into any casino's system in order to manipulate free play amounts, then they'd be a fool not to be tight-lipped about it. And as we've seen, almost nobody has that kind of willpower and self-discipline. But it sure does seem like an employee would have to be involved. Still, with all the casinos everywhere now, odds aren't it has to be happening somewhere.

"but the cage apparently can't scan them even though it is cashing them."

That sounds super dangerous for them. I've seen blank tickets just sitting on top of machines the floor person left behind.

I don't remember what all is on the tickets. I guess they have a security background? If not one could just print them up. I guess that must be what you're saying though. If they can't scan them, then they can't manually verify it by the code on the thing. I assume they take down IDs for any substantial amount. lols

The Las Vegas Advisor reported that Wasilla was indeed correct -- the Four Queens and Binions were affected by a ransomware attack that infiltrated virtually all systems. Gaming Control evidently has little to say.

Does anyone have a current update on whether you can download free play at Four Queens and Binions at the machines or does it require a players club visit??

I don't have first hand info since I went home Weds. The reports I read are of people still getting FP manually loaded.

When the system deteriorated again on 3/2, employees described it as something being "triggered" as IT was fixing the system. Sounds consistant with a ransomware attack.
