lax or little regulation of the financial industry, (and other industries), is a conservative philosophy - not a liberal one

there are exceptions, of course, but liberals generally favor strong regulation of corporate entities and conservatives generally favor weak regulation "

If you want anything to be factual when discussing this history you cannot say that what Frank, and Dodd did was irrelevant. They were in charge and calling the shots, while possessing and using all kinds of power, and leverage at the time on the bankers. Take the blinders off, yes the Dem's are the party of regulations, BUT back then, not when it involved miniorities. The words discrimination rang out throughout the party and it was time for payback. Between the lines the bankers were told to play ball with the loans or they were going to be tied up in knots with new but yet unforseen regulations. This is all true so there was plenty of blame to go around. Besides do you think all the bankers were Republicans?

That's downright Singeresq Mickey. So you didn't actually believe it when Trump said that the virus was a Democratic hoax? You were just bored and decided to squander some of the respect you've earned by asking a question you knew sounded ridiculous to most of us, just so you could laugh at the people who tried to give thoughtful and respectful responses while your attack poodle snarled and insulted them? You're right. I don't get it. I don't even believe it. I think that Trump conned you and you are too embarrassed to admit it. Guess I should wise up.

The deregulation actually stared during the Reagan Administration. Regulations that had been there since the Depression.

Trump never said the virus is a democratic hoax. Democrats said that Trump said the virus was a democratic hoax. It’s all bullshit based in Democrat’s ability to twist words and meanings to take someone out of context. Dems are the filthiest of liars with awesome ability and nerve to connive. The truth doesn’t matter to Dems. Only power and they will lie like hell to get it.

Thanks for the history lesson mick. Was really too young at the time to remember anything of Reagan. Only things I really know about him was he was an actor, republicans remember him quite fondly, and he was a big part of escalating the drug war and is referenced for in some movies for shady ties to I think Nicaragua at the time.

I was referring to deregulation going “overboard” with Clinton repealing the Glass Seagall act in 1999. He’d be out of office a year later before it could have much effect. Many people think that act made the ‘08 crisis a possibility. Prevented any regulation of junk derivatives, allowed large banks and insurance companies to merger.

    Micky -
Could we have details on this? I almost busted out laughing at this spin although perhaps it is true.

I would not be surprised if Nancy just took something she knew wasn't 100% true and said they had an agreement just to frame the debate like that. Trump is a politician like no other and Democrats so have to up their game.

Wasila you seem to thoughtful and reasonable to be on this forum. Perhaps you should move along? (joking there..)

Nancy tried to sneak an abortion funder into the carona virus bill now being negotiated. She had to dump it when complaints started rolling in.

So I researched this and it appears to be exactly like I figured. The Democrats didn't have explicit language the money can't be used for abortions. Republicans claim lack of explicit exclusion means she was "sneaking it in".

Where am I wrong here? What exactly did she "dump"? Can you find any reference to the actual content of what she tried to include in the bill?

    Here's your chance........................................

My Mom who is a Teacher is now out of a job since Miami Dade Schools shut down as a Casualty of the Coronavirus Shutdowns. It's only a matter of time before Walgreens shuts down too. Sad how the CV was just a little while ago a faraway problem happening on the other side of the world. It gradually became our problem too.

you're pointing to liberals being involved - I'm not disputing that

there are lots of exceptions - but the greater point is that conservatives are the party that believes in lax or little regulation of corporate entitiies

conservatives, for example Fundamentalists, (some), believe that porn should not be legal - that doesn't mean that conservatives are anti-business

it's a gigantic world - not everything is going to fit into a pigeonhole

but the fact remains - conservatives believing that corporations can be trusted has caused enormous problems in our society

    ...........................................

social conservatives are those who believe, for example, that there should be no affirmative action

but economic conservatives, are highly focused on protecting corporations and eliminating or marginalizing regulatory activities

social conservatives are not so full throated when they consider how gigantic corporations should be treated

I really, really doubt that social conservatives are on the same page as economic conservatives re this issue
    please don't feed the trolls

CHance to show once and for all the Democrats and their fake news. I mean this writing where the Democrats tried to tie abortion into the aid package through the House should be available, no? Real simple way to see if you were lied to?

They just banned visitations at my hospital for precautionary reasons. Don’t know when I’m getting out but told my room mate to try and stock up on TP. We only got 12 rolls at home. He said Wal-Mart was sold out.

Lifenews isn't a news source I'd ever heard of but I think that explains their headlines which could outrun CNN in partisan BS.

The article seems correct in the facts, but make it clear -there was no mention of abortion or related to abortion.

I was going to troll Micky and tell him his message could be used to support abortion.. because Micky didn't say otherwise ! Same basic logic being displayed here.

I still get a lot of mail from the New Mexico and Oklahoma casinos. The last few days they’ve been emailing telling me about their efforts to combat carona virus. Enhanced and more frequent cleaning of machines. Alcohol hand wipe stations around the casino.

Montana has its first coronavirus case. Welcome to the dance Mickey. Be safe and stay healthy.

That only leaves West Virgina. West Virgina is often last on different things. This is one of those rare times that is a good thing.

Of course there was no mention of abortion. That’s how diabolical she is. She tried to pull a fast one.

Interesting story about this. In the 90s I worked in banking and actually worked for Citibank when they merged with Travelers Insurance in 1998.

This was just PRIOR to the repeal of the Glass-Stegall act which prevented banks from owning insurance companies and vice versa primarily to prevent the too big fail scenarios that occurred in the great depression.

In our company news letter there was a CEO Q & A and a question for the CEO asking how is the merger going to get approved since the Glass Steagall act prevents that? And the CEO basically said “That act is almost certainly going to be eliminated, we are working with legislators on it right now” Kind of like if I was murdering someone snd they said “Stop you’re gonna end up in prison” and I said “Nah, Im working on getting that murder law repealed and confident I will.”

That was the first time it really hit me that the government doesn’t really work for the people, it works for corporations. Heck government and corporations are essentially the same as its usually the same people moving back and forth from public to private sector that are the ones developing policy.

Whose more to blame Republicans or Democrats?

Well, Another interesting thing I recall from my banking days (Although this is probably true of most companies even outside of banking) Is that I would see disclosure sheets of the political contributions the banks were making to candidates and most of the time they were contributing equally to candidates from both parties so they didn’t really care who won.

They greased up both sides so while us little folks are arguing over whose worse Dems or Republicans the big banks and corporations know they are always going to have a seat at the table and strong influence due to large contributions they make to everyone.
