When I started this thread almost 2 years ago I thought covid was overblown by politicians and media. Now, almost 2 years later, 22% of Americans have had or now have covid. And the number is going to increase dramatically in the next couple of months.
I was looking at the 7-day average on Montana covid stats today. Back on Jan 1, the 7-day average for covid infections was about 280. But in one month the 7-day average has jumped to 2400. This in a state with a population of just 1,068,000.
Over 24% of Montanans have already had covid but the rate of new infections is going thru the roof this month. The Montana stats are a microcosm of the national stats.
The only good news is the death rate is much lower in this latest spike than in previous ones.
Well, two years ago redietz told us to do the math. I didn't really give a damn then as I thought it was overblown. I'm just now looking at the mathematical probability in the future. This is my own mathematical prediction. I'm not a scientist or doctor so take it with a grain of salt:
At some point in the not to distant future, probably a year or so, a majority of Americans will have had covid.
And probably within a few years Americans who have not had covid will be a small minority.

I think the amount who haven’t had it is very small already. Unless you have hidden in your house you probably had it and didn’t know it if you are in normal health. Or thought you had it but didn’t care since the symptoms were nothing more than a cold or runny nose. Which is especially what the Omni is to most. I get people like you who are older and had other conditions being cautious and concerned but for most of us we were proven right 22 months later. This seems to be the prevalent opinion now and even the far left loons are losing the public opinion battle. Like the flu, it’s just something we have to live with. So other than the few required to test for jobs bump the confirmed numbers up by 1/4 from that. At home tests are rarely going to be reported, bump it up again. Many people who only get very mild symptoms won’t test, bump it up again. Someone in the family gets it, then another family member starts getting symptoms, usually just going to assume they have it and not get tested, bump it up again.
I don’t see any way given all those factors the number of people who have contracted it isn’t at least twice the confirmed number. We’ve also seen decoupling with hospitalization rates vs cases, are the new variants actually THAT MUCH milder or is it just a lot of people are on their second go around combined with better treatments, or perhaps the earlier variants just picked off many of the easiest targets.

One of my sisters was recently sick for 2 1/5 weeks. She never went to the doctor but thinks it was covid. There could be a lot of people like her. But if most Americans have already had covid the number of daily infections will have to take a dramatic nose dive very soon. Like a Ponzi scheme we will simply run out of people to infect.
Boz, I'm not concerned about myself. I'm actually pretty healthy. My doctors have moved me to six month checkups. Right now I'm stronger than I've been in the two years since the heart attack. My going over the math of covid infection rates was not based in concern for my own health.
It could very well be that most Americans have already had it. Statistically, that will have to be shown in the numbers of infections, or lack thereof, in the next year or so.

Thanks, Boz. I did take some time off after the heart attack. That was in Nov 2019 then the covid hit by march 2020. I spent about the middle of 2020 not moving around much. But I got back out there on the road in late 2020 and have been doing it ever since. I got no interest in sitting in a rocking chair.
