I’m not as cynical as Mickey because there are many good hard working Americans who consider themselves Democrats. Sadly they never looked to question their life and how the Elite Dems see them. This has to be the greatest post ever. You start off complaining because the "successful democrats think they're better than me" then you follow up with breaking down every demographic of democrat you've created in your head and explaining what is wrong with them. (why you are better.)

    lol

    epic.
YOU, as in YOU, ME and everyone else. Not sure why you don’t get it. They are the typical Hollywood elite and other elite types who found success in America under Capitalism, and through Hard Work,

Yet they push crazy programs that are not needed because they believe they are special and YOU (see above description) could never succeed like they have.

It’s really simple if you stop believing you were born to be a loser in life. I’m sad you feel that way.

You make such little sense. Just like when you started going on about Leave it To Beaver and trying to make some analogy. I literally scratched my head.

Boz, your first paragraph you seem to be correcting me by telling me YOU are one of these elite types (who push crazy programs).

You are nonsensical and I'm not just saying that to insult you.

I feel the exact same about you. You and your views make little sense. And where the helll did I say anything about Leave it to Beaver? Way before my time.

And if your fairy tale beliefs are Correct, you probably shouldn’t scratch your head.

And I am trying to insult you, but like Tasha, you are just too stupid to insult.

But every forum needs a stereotypical liberal and you are filling to roll just fine.

So I got you and bosox mixed up. He's the one who said the nonsensical stuff about Leave It To Beaver. It is pretty easy to do. I believe it is in this thread. If you want to help me figure out what he meant....

I'm about the last thing from a stereotypical liberal. I could ask you how you came to that conclusion and it'd be typical <crickets>. Seeing Trump for the middling IQ conman he is does not auto-make one some huge liberal. (Whatever that even means.) I did get the Beaver thing confused but you still just talk total nonsense.

Anyway, I saw somewhere else that someone pointed out that after this testing fiasco, it is somewhat apparent the US isn't really a first world country anymore. Somewhat accurate IMO.

    Gentlemen,

There are literally thousands of studies of what correlates with someone's income in the United States. The positive correlates include race, parents' income, parents' education, education, parents' marital status, IQ, and on and on. Anything I know is dated, but back in the 80's, when Michigan did much of the big survey work, I believe parents' income was the top positive correlate, but you can check me on that. I am out of touch with how those variables have shuffled around in importance in this country. The problem with trying to assign "hard work" as a correlate is that (1) "work" has an actual specific definition most of the time, namely calories burned, and calories burned doesn't correlate with income, (2) "work" can be defined as hours invested in training or wage job, and while I think that there is some correlation, other variables are much stronger, (3) it's been shown that for some sub-groups, namely college students, working more than about 15/16 hours per week in jobs unrelated to your degree is actually a negative to future income because the time that could be spent becoming expert is spent on something unrelated. So the latter points firmly to the wealthy having an enormous advantage.

Best that I know, parents' income and education level are probably still the two biggest positive correlates.

Now you can argue that correlation is not cause-and-effect, and you would be absolutely correct.

All of the above points will, I think, be moot in a few years, as there will be programs that will be able to take your life variables and plot your probabilistic course through life and project income and "success" and so on. Of course, these programs currently exist in various forms, but I can't see a top-down plutocratic culture being motivated to publicize a public game of "let's see how you'd likely do if you were me."

Yes, most "conservatives" live in a bubble where they don't see what advantages they were given. Well part of their brain doesn't see it, but it is likely just a form of denial. Everything is based on their hard work! It really is a level of entitlement, but it is a rare day to find these types self-aware enough to acknowledge that.

Neither of my parents went to college. Dad didn't graduate high school. I'm not rich, but I do make well over 100k a year for basically a part time job (running my business). Thats not counting gambling stuff. That suits me fine as I don't need much $$. I'll always be able to figure out a way to make money until I'm very old. I have multiple job skills. Just the fact I bootstrapped a company that does near 1 million in revenue is enough to get me in the door at many places. blah blah. I have a business for a lifestyle, not so I can buy shiny trinkets during my time on this Earth. That sort of behavior is for *******.

From all that I can understand, I'm mostly liberal because I want to see the wealthy taxed more. All the poor dumb people have been fed a lie that they won't have a job if this happens, so the US increasingly approaches the structure of a third world country. Also not a big fan of unneeded wars but IMO that isn't a liberal view. I don't even think it is "conservative" to be a hawk. Such views are just more lies fed to people. I'm also more pro-second amendment than a lot of the big trump fans on here. Honestly, I think I've had more people from the left defriend me on FB over my political posts than the right. I actually have higher expectations of them as people.

That was a nice post redietz. I don't know about your last paragraph, and I too learned about this stuff a long time ago, but you pretty much described income correlations as I learned them and understand them without taking the time to insult anyone. I think Alaska has an unusually high opportunity quotient for some one just coming to the workforce with a really strong work ethic. Even here though, work ethic guy often has to line up behind guy who the foreman is my Uncle.

It's almost EMBARRASSING experiencing the casual weakness, low expectations, dignity-lacking, and naivete' of some posters as they lament their self-described pathetic, "been & going nowhere" lives.

Coronavirus may well be your best friend....

It truly is symbolic of how it many live their lives. When I always talk about people being told they are victims, this proves it. Work hard, make smart but tough decisions and most everyone can succeed in America.

And it still leaves plenty of time to do the things you enjoy. Sad so many never realized it until it was too late.

    Great post Robbo

That's a good one I admit, but there are many such treasures to be found in this thread.

    You got pretty close.

It wasn't hard. Just paid attention to experts, ignored politicians, and read the occasional article from other countries.

Public rhetoric comes into conflict with science quite often, and about 99% of the time, science is right. This was one of those 99%.

You evidently didn't get Dr. Drew's opinion.

Did not even know who that was. Maybe best to lump celebrities in with politicians.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your IQ points exceed mine. Was the March 17th date like an over/under?

That trip to LV forced me to plan and keep tabs on things in other countries. I just kept track of the experts. The rhetoric a few weeks ago was about a four on a seriousness scale, but when the military had to make some smaller decisions like who got transported where, it was pretty clear this was going to be bad. They did not really have a handle on percent of asymptomatic transmission and length of time this could go without symptoms. The CDC was a step behind other countries in figuring things out. I figured the US as a whole would be a step slow, because God knows, all Americans hate experts, and then it was easy to ballpark closures. We're on track for a slightly worse version of Italy, I think.

I don't know where I mentioned it, but a week ago I ballparked the potential number of infected at 10 million. That's talking immediately, not a year or two down the road. The Germans think more than half of their population will be infected at some point. It could be real bad. The existing generations have not seen anything like this.

I'll add my blog address here. I've been doing some day-to-day COVID-19 entries addressing the previous 24 hours. I really have been a step ahead almost the entire way. It wasn't that hard to time this out.

I commend you on your diligence. By contrast, I was just catching some news reports since early January and didn't dig into it until I returned from Vegas. I probably spent a close to a couple hundred hours sitting at VP bars. When I wasn't doing that, I was often sitting at the bar at some brewpub. At one point I was hugging a person I'd only met an hour before.
Alaska is at 3 cases as of last night and all 3 of these look to be from infections caught outside. There is no evidence that I am aware of that community transmission is occurring here. Even so, schools are staying closed an extra week after spring break, Providence Hospital has restricted visitors and won't let their staff work after traveling for 14 days, Anchorage is trying to protect the homeless population by converting an arena for temporary housing, and has just done the restaurant/bar closures last night. I live in a very conservative borough which has announced that they don't have the power to mandate closures. Alaska is a pretty conservative state. This doesn't feel like panic or politics. It is more like we got a lot of warning before we were affected and government and private leaders are trying to take advantage of that to try to institute some best practices.

Oh, Dr. Drew is a celebrity alright. He used to have a reality show about rehabbing celebrity drug attics and alcoholics. Lately he has been informing the City of Los Angeles how dangerous the homeless situation is for infectious diseases. But he see's the coronavirus panic as media driven mayhem on the American people. He's a real doctor not just a celebrity.
