If you are over 80 & sick in Italy, you may be left to die

This is a really sad article. Over 1,000 deaths so far in Italy related to COVID-19.

A couple of key paragraphs:

Coronavirus victims in Italy will be denied access to intensive care if they are aged 80 or more or in poor health should pressure on beds increase, a document prepared by a crisis management unit in Turin propose.

...

One doctor said: "[Who lives and who dies] is decided by age and by the [patient's] health conditions. This is how it is in a war."

This article highlights medical care & resources are limited. Nations like Italy is not prepared to deal with a pandemic like COVID-19 and someone or some group decided the 80+ group will be sacrificed for the greater good of the nation.

It’s what I learned in economic in college: The needs of many out weight the needs of the few.

At the 80+, you are looking at 18% mortality rate. Not surprised the Italian gov’t came up with a plan to let let sick & 80+ just die.

We are in 2020 & Italy is a modern, industrialized, rich nation but the plan is to let some unfortunate group of people to die.

When a nation does not have enough resources, some unlucky person(s) will pay the price.

As you get older, your immune system isn’t as robust as a 10-year-old (btw, 10-year-olds have the lowest mortality rate of any age group based on health).
