Ok, some of us recognized the similarities almost immediately. And then there is the fact that AndrewG joined just shortly after Alan exited. But for me personally, while I had suspicions almost immediately, it was a private conversation I had with Dan Druff. Dan didn't confirm or deny that it was Alan. He said he didn't know (which I am not sure I believe because he has confirmed or denied other sock puppets). But there was something else that Mr Dan said that tipped me off. I am not going to repeat it. Y'all can ask Dan.

You misspoke Mr Midwest Player. Your Social Security is not taxed at 85% but 85% of it can be taxable.
Yes, I didn't word this very good. In my case 85% of my social security was taxable, but it was taxed at my regular income tax rate.

Here's the truth: the qualifications WILL be based on tax returns from the 2018 calendar year. If a person didn't file that year then they will not receive a check. Pretty simple. And, of course, there's the income amount restrictions of $75k for a single filer and $150k for joint filers, where the $1200/person amt. (or whatever they settle on) gets reduced all the way to zero once the income level hits $99k/$198k. Probably of little importance to many gamblers is the additional $500/child to income-qualified tax payers. Of more importance is how the qualifying income levels are based on AGI, which means those W2G's come into play BEFORE deductions for losses.

Saying SS provides "little income" is irrelevant. Anyone who's worked and contributed the tax gets it. We both get about $2500/mo. each in SS benefits and I agree, it's not a lot to live on. But the distribution of $1200 checks completely disregards pensions, investments, retirement accounts etc. unless your income exceeds the limits because of these things. In ourparticular case, we both also receive about $2500 each in pensions, which keeps us as joint filers under the limits unless we had $78,001 in additional income from other sources for 2018. And this is where the W2G's, interest, dividends, etc. would come into play because of the AGI baseline.
Mr Singer is not entirety correct in his analysis. If you are a professional gambler and file as a business (Sch C), losses are deducted above the line (before adjusted gross income) For those that deduct losses as an itemized deduction, Mr Singer is correct and you are probably screwed.

From my reading of KJ's posts in the past, I believe he mentioned he files as a business with self employed income. If he didn't state this directly it was implied by reading between the lines so he would be okay as long as his income is below $99,000 for 2018.

By the way, my social security is taxed at the max of 85% for both 2018 and 2019. I think a lot of folks on social security file income tax returns.
Most people don't file as professional gamblers so there's no reason to include that option. That's like the kind claiming Trump's always lying because he only talks about the important things.

Speaking of which....that rate of 85% of SS being taxable isn't entirely accurate either. It can be higher depending on other income. I don't know if it can be lower. The tax code is the most inefficient, most ridiculously messed up part of our federal government.

I believe the most social security can be taxed is 85% of benefits being included in income. Less social security benefits can be excluded from income. In some cases no social security is included in income.

So I have been thinking about this "people that don't owe taxes will get less money" stipulation. In addition to seniors on social security that don't owe taxes, it is lower income workers that don't owe taxes. Being lower income they almost assuredly have no savings to fall back on, so these are the people that need the money the most and under this plan, they will get the least help.

In some weird news, I am suddenly the main breadwinner in my household due to the Covid-19 Shutdowns! ME! O.O My mother temporarily lost her job, my older cousin temporarily lost her job, and my Dad's job cut hours. I am the only one working full time! O.O.

About 25% of SS recipients have no other income. This is where the Section 8 livers come from. You move into the senior housing or apply directly to receive Section 8 vouchers every month to use with private landlords that agree to it. You are charged 30% of you SS check for rent and utilities. The Feds pay the rest. I've seen the senior housing around town and its first rate. These people are living pretty good but on tight budgets. In the right market this program can work for even those drawing more than 2K a month in SS. But in towns like Great Falls where average rent is around $700 it pretty much only works for those drawing like $1500 or less per month.

The one area of the shutdown I see as harming these SS people is the bus service shutting down. The buses quit running in Great Falls a few days ago. So all these people are forced to get around in other ways. One of those ways might be cab service.

Another spot I would see seniors was at the bus stop at Walmart. I would see them waiting on the bus with a cart of groceries. They can't do that with no buses running.

In any case, it's one of a number of very annoying worksheets taxpayers need to waste their time struggling thru every year just to plunk numbers in certain lines.

Midwest Player, two of your party heroes Pelosi and Schumer are playing politics games again and holding Americans hostage from receiving much-needed help, What do you have to say about that?

They want the money to go to the folks who need it. Trump wants to bail out his rich buddy corporations. By the way, your buddy McConnell last weekend went home for a three day weekend. What a piece of shit he is. Why does he think he can draft a bill without any input from the Dems?

Don't misrepresent. The Dems are attaching all kinds of bullshit riders to the bill that have nothing to do with the coronavirus situation. They're using coronavirus to try and get other things on their agenda. Pieces of shit.

Listen to you two-bit loser’s carry-on about a free thousand dollars. Look at the title of this thread. When? How? Who will and won’t get it? With all that cash you alleged AP’s have stashed by now, you should be using dollar bills for toilet paper.

I know, I know, you’re all only concerned about the people that need it and want to make sure they get it. So, if it does come, you should be donating it to someone who needs it.

You alleged successful AP’s always manage to shine like a new penny.

You’re all fucking sad and pathetic.

Although I would take the check I will probably be too lazy to fill out the paperwork and jump through the hoops to get it.
I lost 3k right before the Casinos closed so whats another thousand?
I had over 5k coming in from Free Play before the end of the month.
I also ate at the Palms Buffet a few times while other Buffets were closing.

I also believe giving up 2 to 4 Trillion Dollars is pretty insane.
Feels like the taxpayer is getting robbed at gunpoint.
Locking people in their houses is compounding the problem.
None of you liked to help out the panhandlers before but it seems everyone has their hand out now.

The game has changed and you either adapt or die.
I can't decide if I should get all cash out of the banking system or not.
I am slowly taking out 3 to 4 thousand a day though.
In the last week I spent over 3k on groceries and who knows how much on bathroom, cleaning and other supplies.
I suppose close to 10k counting everything.
I went on a nice 1 week Vacation to Utah for snowmobiling the first half of February which they can't take that memory away from me.
    Worth every penny!!

How does holding up the aid for a host of new climate change rules get the money to the folks who need it?

Typical of you, brokeassblackhole. I don't care about the money for myself. I'm doing just fine. It's the working stiffs around town that have been put out of work I'm concerned about. Grow up!

With your charming online personality, and all that cash you're about to hand out, who could’ve possibly thought you would have looked at the free money any other way?

    You’re so sweet…

This is one area that I have failed to fortify.
I used to buy 15 to 20 bottles of this stuff.
I always like to buy a 6 month supply of everything.
Not because I was prepping but because I was just lazy and didn't want to shop every other week.
So my wife was bitching that we had too much bleach.
So I wasn't keeping up with it and I am down to only two bottles.
I haven't been able to find bleach but I did see people bartering on craigslist with it.
Ebay as well if you want to overpay.

What I did was I bought a bunch of Vinegar.
It is a debate that it isn't as effective but better than nothing.
Also, I bought a bunch of cheap vodka which should kill anything

If you really need some help I could really work hard on it and see what I can do.
