Thread: What Are You Doing During The Coronapocalypse?

So I have a trip booked for early / mid June, which I haven't given a lot of thought about. Still nearly 3 months away. Thought I would wait and see what happens between now and then. But end of last week I received an email from the airline, Frontier, encouraging me to cancel that active reservation. They were offering a full credit for the trip, good through 12/31 and an additional $100 credit also good thru 12/31. I ignored the first email because as I said, I sort of just figured I would see what happens between now and then.

Today I received another email, upping the offer if I cancel to full credit plus additional $200 credit. What is going on? why are they so anxious for me to cancel? I mean if they are cancelling flights, they should just do so. Why are they trying to entice me to cancel on my end?
6 states are on stay at home orders.
They are begging Trump to make it Nationwide.
Trump said he hopes to open the economy back up on March 31st.
Who the Fuck knows what is going on lol?
It seems people don't want to understand that it isn't business as usual.
The problem is that this is America and most of us don't want government control.
Like I said before... you can't make Americans stay at home unless you bring in the Military and put up checkpoints.
Of course that will make many of us panic even more but many Americans are not going to be told what to do.
We are addicted to our easy life and or lifestyle. Nobody can quit that cold turkey.
States have threatened to leave the Union before so it could happen the way things are going.
    Buckle Up Buttercup!!

Ok, so you didn't answer the question. If the airline is cancelling flights or anticipating cancelling flights, why don't they just do so. Instead they seem to want the cancellation to come from my end...so much so that they are willing to compensate me extra if I cancel. I get the feeling it is so then they can turn around and as an industry, request a huge bailout, which they are probably going to get anyway. But the more cancellations, makes their case look stronger, so they want the cancelation to come from my end.

Now as per you "buttercup" comment: Are you really this small and insecure of a man that it makes you feel better to attempt to put others down by 3rd grade name-calling. Newsflash Monet: This don't erase your shortcomings (insecurity) only highlights it.

I knew you would take the buttercup phrase offensively.
It has been said around poker tables for decades and decades.
    Usually when someone is raising.
Just like someone saying Hollywood to a player.
Or... Give it to the lucky kid with sunglasses.
Like, Don't call me a Goat Head when you tell a player to Go Ahead.
Or the many other phrases at the poker table constantly said over and over.
I gave you the benefit of the doubt since you have been in Vegas for a long time and figured you would realize this wasn't a slur.
I figured you had heard it many times through your AP/Gambling career.
I was wrong but I'm wrong about many things.
I thought you and other APs had tough skin??

I did answer the question but not directly.
You have to read between the lines.
Nobody right now is giving absolute or straight answers.
Do you actually believe the bullshit they say on the TV every day??
They are trying to calm the populace and not make them panic anymore.
If they keep pushing us it will get violent.

You shouldn't really be worried about some flight.
You should take the money and run.
That is until you think it is safe to be on an Airplane.
IMO, individuals should either be putting all their resources in action to hunker down.
Or, they should think about moving to somewhere rural.
I am sorry I don't have a direct answer for you but the truth is the patterns right now suggest things are going to get worse.
The Government looks like they want to take over the airlines or at least get a piece of them.
I am sorry I got involved replying to your post.
I will try not to interfere again.
    Everyone is panicking right now.
I am pretty calm for the most part but I am stockpiling like a mad man or a monet.

    That is depressing.
I see just as many people for it as against it.
I am amazed at how many people actually favor Martial Law.
Many people are posting that they want the Military to use force to keep people indoors.
From my understanding, according to experts, if we continue down this path... America is not going to be what we have been used to.

I think the old cliché saying "Never let a good crisis go to waste" is not to be dismissed based on some of the moves getting made.

They're finding this virus active for 17+ days on the cruise ship in the quarters of people who had it. That is so fucked.

I'm hoping that while the thing spreads in hotter climates, it might not be near as effective at transmission.

    You are wrong.
I say it all the time in all situations.
I have heard it said Pucker Up Buttercup as well.
I used it in that post because I feel the Ride is going to be bumpy.
    Hence the Buckle Up.
I've been saying it over 20 years.
It's ok though if you feel your people are being opressed.
    I get it.

I am constantly using movie, book, tv show... etc etc references constantly.
Most people have no clue what I am talking about.
Case in point I use... Yeah 220, 221... whatever it takes. All the time. (Mr Mom)
It is pretty obvious because my posts are constantly using them and showing youtube videos of them.

If I was going to be derogatory I would just call you a Fucking Fagot or tell you to go Suck some Cock.
I usually don't try to be clever as I have always been very direct.
I told the Wizard to Go Fuck Himself and Jump Off A Cliff.

I don't constantly bash or harass you like others on this board.
And since this economic situation I really haven't been derogatory or bashed anyone in the Chinese Virus Conversations.
You asked us all to put that nonsense on the back burner and talk about the numbers and the situation.
I think I have completely complied with that request.

I also think I have shared my own personal situation since the crisis/scam more than anyone.
Perhaps I am wrong in my thoughts but I think I have posted them from Gun Purchases to Marital Law possibilities.
Just like when I talk about Vegas, Promotions and Video Poker... I keep it very accurate and as real as possible.
When I was posting the Hot Sucker Thread you were calling me a Troll and demanding that Dan should Ban me.
All because the information I was posting was to the point, very accurate and very detailed.
    Did you forget that shit?
You can re-read the comments on Page 1 and 2 of that thread.
Just because you, AW, RS and all those other fuckers don't like the public to have that information does not mean that another individual can't give it to them publicly and free.
This is still Fucking America for the time being and not Communist China.

And for the record the information you provided is spot on for at least one of the downtown properties that my partner and I play and pretty close for a second.
I stopped reading after that. So this Donald Trumpian, turn about that you made it all up is BS.
Dan do we really have to go through another A-hole here only to disrupt and destroy the progress being made here?
    Boz doesn't count.

That’s Monet, that puts me in a special category.

Because I call you out at every chance for saying who you are. The “Baddest thieving Mother Fucker in Vegas”. You said it, said no one should ever trust you and you would steal from your mother. And then tried to make yourself look good by saying you didn’t rob a member you could have. Like it made you look better in your mind. I called you out for being the only person who would see it that way. I still believe that.

Other than that, not sure why you don’t like me.

Either way. Carry On, hell may be coming.

Just about everything offends kew. Insecure people tend to be like that. Notice how he constantly whines about those he feels "aren't contributing positively". What kind of a weakass pussy would say something so self-disrespecting?

    Yes, people like him exist.

Besides the casino being closed, life hasn't changed much for me. I work loosely with the canned food industry and have been deemed essential. So everyday I simply go to work and business is brisk. Living in a small town with a sizable grocery store meant shelves were reasonably well stocked. Until, people from "up north" got wind that we had all the good shit. Now, shelves are spotty, but you can still fill up a cart - just maybe not with exactly what you wanted. By dumb luck, I placed a large order with the local butcher last month and the freezer is stocked.

We are under a shelter in place order and my wife is going crazy staying home all day with our young son. His preschool is canceled indefinitely, and she is pregnant. So the last thing she needs is to catch this bug. Every couple days we load into the car just to take a ride and get her out of the house.

    I take drives everyday.

I went for a drive then did a little food shopping at Albertsons. Everything was stocked up pretty good except soup and rice. Didn't check the eggs or toilet paper. Then came home and did some genealogy work online. I think I'm gonna watch that movie Unbroken on youtube tonight.

I went to Albertsons about 6 AM and found some Kleenex. One box of 110 per customer. And some paper towels. Two rolls per customer. I was going to double back on them but there was only one cash register open. Dammit!

Then I played 25-50 NL on Bovada for an hour. Won $61.

Then I watched Owning Mahoney for free on youtube. I had never seen the movie before and I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman did a great job of capturing the essence of a compulsive gambler.

    My homemade hand sanitizer recipe:

    3 parts Everclear.
    2 parts Aloe Vera Gel
    A dash of vegetable oil.

Now I'm going to take a drive before the sun goes down.

Great movie, mickey. Glad you got to see it. Hoffman deserved awards for that.

Now you know where I get the occasional "no sauce wings" comments when discussing MDawg's dry rub ribs.

If you haven't seen it, may I suggest a really bad 1999 movie, "The Runner?" It's pretty damn bad, but John Goodman makes a great Billy Walters-esque character, and it nails the discipline necessary for the job. You have a bad hour or two of decision-making in those environments, and your gills can be cooked.

I just put The Runner on my list.

Trying to figure stuff out. Some of our exterior painting Round Rock TX work can be done, as long we communicate with clients via email and phone and not person to person. But it's getting interesting.

Here's a raw solicitation. Some of my friends had a book published a few weeks ago. Since many of the posters here are older, and it would reflect on simpler, non-corona times, it might be a nice read. I've finished just a few chapters, but style-wise, it's like the old mystery or science fiction short stories you'd find in magazines back in the 60's and 70's. It's a collection of 13 true short stories.

Growing Up South of the Mason-Dixon Line

For the last week I have been struggling with myself concerning a real estate purchase. Towards the end of last year, I was considering buying a little ranch, about an hour 15 minutes outside of Vegas. I really fell in love with this property and location. A little cooler climate than Vegas. beautiful mountain view. A small barn with enough land for a few horse and livestock. Even had a little stream running through the corner of property. Picture post card stuff. The small 3 bedroom house wasn't in great shape. Would need significant work and renovation for me to live there fulltime. But, that was going to be 10 years down the road, so plenty of time to work on that.

So after quite a bit of back and forth, I decided it just wasn't the right time and didn't quite fit into my current financial situation. My brother and currently co-own a condo, that I paid cash for and he is paying me for his half. But we are only a little more than a year into that arrangement, so I have a chunk of money tied up there. Buying this property just would have spread me too thin, Bankroll-wise. Well too thin for my RoR comfort anyway. So like I said, I finally talked myself out of it.

So with too much time on my hands, I was sort of looking at real estate online last week and came upon the same property again listed with a different broker. It surprised me as I thought that kind of property might be gobbled up quickly, but what do I know. So that started my back and forth all over again. Of course this current pandemic situation certainly played into that re-consideration, as that is the kind of very rural place you want to be in this kind of situation. Also would be the ideal time to be putzing around filling my down days working on the property. I drove up to the property over the weekend and a second time this morning.

But in the end, nothing has changed about my current situation, except that I am unable to make a living for who knows how long. And I have uncertainly about just what I might be returning to when the casino industry does open. Wouldn't surprise me if BJ conditions tighten and worsen during this time, a trend that has occurred for years anyway. Some casinos may decide on less blackjack tables and more higher edge carnival games, or more higher edge side bets which slows the game to a crawl and can make some decent games unplayable, or certainly much less profitable. Just too much uncertainty. I just can't allow myself to be "scared" into a decision I didn't feel was right just a couple months ago. Although who knows, in half an hour I may feel different again.

In these irrational and unstable times....well I just hate these times.
