Thread: California horseracing essential

I just found out that horseracing with betting is going on at two California tracks but no one is allowed in the grandstands.

Alan, this has nothing whatsoever to do with Las Vegas and should have been posted in either the California/Western casinos or whatever’s on you mind subforum.

Sadly—-that’s pretty much how racing has been for years now. Other than the big days or the boutique meets, pretty much empty stands.

in one sense it's sad - but in another sense technology enabling this saved racing
because of this gigantic sums are being bet off track - the last year I checked it the parimutuel handle in U.S. racing was over $11 billion

without technology racing as we know it surely would have disappeared - no way it could compete with lotteries and casinos

Even though racing is such a big part of my life, besides my being a huge fan, I admit that I wager very little at the track. Most of my wagers are on-line with rebate shops. Not only do I get full odds (most race tracks and OTB's don't pay full odds as they take a small fee), but I get rebates that the tracks themselves don't offer. So even when I am at the track, I am betting on-line on my puter.

I assume with the rebates and whatnot give you a significant advantage? What type of rebates do you give if you don't mind answering? Can you share what books you use online?

    Axel:

although you can get rebates at offshore shops you can get generous new customer promos on virtually every legal U.S. website
if you want, you can just milk those one time offers and not bet anymore with them
virtually all of them offer something, some quite generous for new customers only

    i.e.: twinspires.com...................xpressbet.com.... .................tvg.com........................ny rabets.com.....................betsdrf.com........ ..........amwager.com

with rebates you are still going to have to be a very skilled handicapper to have an advantage

if they give you a 7% rebate - that's the largest I've ever heard about - the average takeout is about 20%, sometimes less, depending on the type of bet and the particular track
that means you have to beat the public by more than 13% to have an advantage - and believe me - that is not easy - only those with a high level of skill can do it

with a new customer promo you will have definitely have an advantage if you limit your action to just enough to get the freeplay or free cash

unfortunately, after you've milked all those one time offers you're in the same boat as every other horseplayer
get real sharp or get creamed

I agree with what smoke said—-I would never say that the rebates give me an advantage. However, it is nice to get a big lump sum at year end
( or a few times a year if one prefers). There are innumerable choices for wagering services. Some increase your rebate percentage as your total wagering for the year increases. Some vary based upon both the track and the type of wager. Some, such as a few that I use, are negotiable. These of course require a high volume. I use several and place most wagers where the rebate is the highest.

The ones that smoke mentioned are the name brands and the rebates are minimal. I receive double digit rebates on the less popular tracks. On stronach tracks ( Santa Anita, laurel, gulfstream) thr rebates are minimal but slightly better if you use stronachs platform. For those tracks I use a service where the rebate increases with volume. All rebates have been shrinking the last few years on the major tracks. But if you like the obscure tracks like I do, you can get a double digit deal.
I have been doing this so long I can’t get any new account bonuses.

If I can get this to properly attach, here are current rates from Amwager. They are not the best but are very good. They have many double digit tracks. They will negotiate for over $250,000 volume.

Clearly you can see which tracks not to play on Amwager. The only other one of the name brands that I use is Twin Spires. Their rates suck but it is my home track. I give them enough volume for free racing forms every day and a few hundred a month rebate. It is really just for the free racing forms.
