    ...........................................

    from the article:

"These workers may qualify as independent contractors or self-employed “during this unprecedented time and under the CARES Act,” said Rosa Mendez, a spokeswoman for the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation."

Professional poker player Chris Konvalinka told the Review-Journal last month that he was considering filing for unemployment benefits. “We’ll see. I’m going to give it a shot,” he said. “It seems like a free roll to me. Worst case, they say no.”'

the key word here is may and this woman is only a spokesperson so she's not all that high up in the food chain
but anyway it looks like there is a chance

Why so skeptical? Do you think it's a big lie? Do you think the spokesperson is like a casino boothling who knows nothing?

I think Mr Kewlj will get his $600 per week.

Now I'm waiting for Mr Kewlj and Mr Mcap to complain that you started a new thread. LOL

Andrew, I am less sure about the unemployment than I was last week. I really have no clue what is happening. Obviously Rob didn't read the stimulus bill so he isn't aware that they specifically made it so self employed and contract type workers who normally don't qualify would qualify. I think this was specifically targeted to the Uber type people, but so many more qualify under that stipulation including professional gamblers.

So here is where I stand. Filed last week. 2 days later my online account said approved. On Monday I received my unemployment debit card. And have heard nothing since. It is difficult to get through on line, but I was able to late last night and no change or additional information or instructions. Seems very confusing and up in the air.

I think I am waiting for an official letter or notice of approval, that will have an amount that I will be receiving and instructions on how to file each week. I think that but really don't know.

Here is what I think might be going on. I think they are approving everyone. But that approval isn't official. It is some sort of preliminary approval as the state waits for the actual funding to come through, which according the Review-Journal article could take several weeks, and them saying several weeks probably means several months. The article does claim that everyone is going to get back pay, including the extra $600 a week, from the time they filed. All I can say is we will see what happens...I am going through this for the first time.

But here is the problem I am wondering about. For workers that worked for a traditional employee, you give your SS# and they pull up the records of what you earned for the qualifying quarters. For those of us that are qualifying under self employed /contract / "gig" type expanded eligibility, I assumed we are going to have to prove what we are claiming with tax records or some sort of documentation. I had that documentation ready when I applied thinking there would be a place to download that documentation but there wasn't.

I am still thinking at some point there still has to be a process for proving your claim with such documentation. Otherwise, if they are just approving everyone claiming to be self-employed, anyone can say they are a professional gambler, or Uber driver or even dog walker. I guess what it comes down to is states are unprepared for this volume of claims and on top of that there are new relaxed eligibility. I think that will mean, a long time before people see any money. And that is ok for me. I have money. But what about people that really need these benefits to survive. Anyway, we will see what happens.

To the new member straightandhatingit: I assume you are the same person that joined Norms forum this week with the handle Gayandlovingit. I don't get what your point is. What exactly are you trying to say with these handles?

Yeah after the succession of comments on bjtf I did some research and discovered this forum along with a few others, so I realize how unfathomable it may seem, but really it's just extraordinary coincidence and I just happen to be a new AP player.

gayandlovingit has been an online handle of mine for well over a decade now. I do also reside in Vegas.

Mr Kewlj did you see the short article in the LVRJ.com quoting the Nevada Unemployment Dept saying pro gamblers ARE COVERED for the special unemployment program? I posted the link in the other thread.

You haven't heard anything because the State hasnt implemented the program yet.

Yes, I did see the article. Thank you Andrew.

I am sure it is all muddled and probably even very confusing for the state. And if professional gamblers should qualify (as it seems), Nevada, where there are a larger number of professional gamblers will eventually get it right. But if I was a professional gambler residing in another state, I wouldn't be so confident they would get it right.

KJ, this is more evidence AndrewG is not Alan. Does anyone really think Alan would be on BJTF?
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

I am not on any blackjack forum and I was not the one who questioned the new forum member. I do not know why my name appeared as the author.

I think you are confused Mickey. I don't know anything about Andrew or Alan posting at BJTF. The new guy here posting as straightandhatingit posted at BJTF this week.

This doesn't sound right. In order for any self-employed or person working in a small business to qualify for unemployment compensation, the business or self-employed person must have paid unemployment insurance taxes.

Best route? As I said, file for a small business forgivable loan. Every self-employed person can do it. And forget about ambiguous info floating around that "doesn't allow" professional gamblers a piece of this pie. They absolutely can apply and if there's no funny business then they'll get some.

Mr Singer the Covid stimulus package changed the law. The feds are paying the states to expand their unemployment insurance programs. One of the expansions includes paying unemployment to self employed and freelancers who normally are not covered.

A question was raised about professional gamblers. The Las Vegas Review Journal spoke to the Nevada Unemployment Dept and was told that gamblers would be covered.

True, this is not an ordinary situation.

Not mentioned is what is considered to be a professional gambler?

It would seem to me that if Mr Kewlj filed a Schedule C as a pro gambler he would qualify. I do not file a Schedule C so I might have a hard time qualifying.

As of this moment as I write this the State of Nevada still has not changed its website to accommodate the new federal rules.

For all we know the State might not even require a Schedule C. And in other states pro gamblers might not be included.

Keep in mind that pro gamblers are BLOCKED from other SBA COVID loan and benefit programs.

The dust is yet to settle.

I wish Mr Kewlj luck and I'm guessing that yes he'll get $600 per week for four months.

Just $600 a week? Isn't it an additional $600 on top of what you qualify for from the state? Nevada's max amount is $407, so I was expecting I should get $1007. No? I guess we will see.

Also, I don't expect I will be eligible for 4 months....only until the governor opens up the state and casinos again, which is probably May 1. Casinos are already taking hotel reservations beginning May 1, so you know they are going to be pressuring the governor to open up.

I don't know if you get more than $600. My understanding is that money from the feds for self employed is $600/week paid thru the states. There is nothing in the federal law requiring states to add in state benefits.

You will get $600/week for four months. It's part of the stimulus plan to boost the economy regardless of how long things are shut.

No one knows if casinos will open and when. It might take longer than four months.

Interesting. I guess we will find out.

I was figuring the casinos would reopen June 19 when this thing went down. I am doubtful of that now based on the continued available info.
These local politicians around the Nation are on a power and control trip.
I'd say fall is the earliest. Atleast that's what I'm planning for.

AT BJTF, the new poster claimed to live in Las Vegas, so Dan Druff or Norm who are both very good at that kind of thing should be able to tell if that is where he is posting from. Bosox is not in Las Vegas to the best of my knowledge.

My neighbor got thru to the Nevada Unemployment Dept and was told that hopefully late tonight -- late Saturday -- the website will be ready to process the new claims. The website will be offline this afternoon and evening to make the changes.

    Good luck Mr Kewlj.

Andrew, can I ask why you are so concerned about this, if you yourself don't intend to file, as you have stated?

How about this answer: I'm fucking bored out of my mind with nothing else to do.

Does that work for you, chum?

    LOL
