Thread: Will the Las Vegas Strip Open Soon

Forget about Vegas casinos opening up. Governor Sisolak says there isn't even a plan yet to open them. This is the same Governor whose Unemployment Insurance Department can't even distibute the federal money that was appropriated.

Alabama is starting toward opening beaches May 1st in the Orange Beach Tourist area. I would expect Mississippi to follow closely behind along with the Biloxi casinos. And then the Florida Panhandle.

Other than some Indian casinos in The Dakota’s, they may be the first in the country.

Time will tell if people flock to them, but Alabama expects an influx of tourists from Out of State. Pent up demand is out there with a majority of Americans.

Article in the Las Vegas Sun which is a small paper hints that as part of any casino reopening you will have your temperature checked before you are allowed to enter.

The most pessimistic article yet about reopening Vegas. Note the survey of consumers about travel and being in crowds. https://www.reviewjournal.com/busine...vegas-2006920/

You really seem to be celebrating this. Like Howard Hughes Dietz you seem to enjoy the casinos being closed and people out of work. We all agree it going to take time to get back to normal numbers, but anything is better than nothing. These numbers show we are not talking about small numbers here, even at huge decreases.

“The worst month was February, during the casino shutdown. In that month — normally robust with visitors during Chinese New Year festivities — revenue plummeted 87.8 percent to $387.1 million.
Gaming revenue in March decreased 79.7 percent to $655.5 million from March 2019. It was the sixth straight month of declines for Macao, which also was impacted by unrest in nearby Hong Kong in the fourth quarter of 2019.“

These states will all be begging the Federal Government for bailouts when their tax revenues drop to next to nothing due to their overreaction. A true liberal dream, everyone dependent on the government.

    #Openitup.

Celebrating the closure? Not in my apartment complex where at least 40% of the residents had casino related jobs.

I guess you just want to kill the messenger? Well, I'm not even the messenger. Why don't you contact the reporter at the Review Journal and tell him a thing or two.

Casinos opening will be a great way to get a free mask. Anyone that doesn't have one will probably be given one at the entrances ;-)

    Not sure it matters.
According to most educated sources the virus is in everything already.

    Gas Pumps
    The Mail
    Paper Money
    Amazon Cardboard Boxes
    The Ocean
    Sidewalks
    Dog Parks
    Lakes
    Motor Boats
    Seeds
The Air within 24 feet of another individual
    Shoes (from walking outside)
Your Clothes (from walking through poisoned air)

    etc etc etc

    Fuck Man!!
    lol

It appears that Dominos, Subway, McDonalds and the like are immune though.
No problem with drive thru, pick up or delivery for some reason.
Liquor Stores, Cigarettes and MJ Shops are safe as well.
Grocery Stores are unsafe but if you have them pack you up some boxes and bring it out to your car you are safe...
as long as you wipe everything down with germ killing whatever and wash your hands, wipe down your shoes and wash all your clothes as soon as you get home!!
You might want to wash your car with rubbing alcohol as well.

The article is pessimistic especially considering who owns LVRJ.

The bounceback is all dependent on those who come into LV to spend money from out of state and overseas, because depending on locals ain't gonna cut it. They'll be flooding thelocals casinos because most of them are gambling addicts who play low level. But the Strip is where the big hit will be, and it will never be the same. And I'll bet Branson wishes he never bought and planned a re-do of HRH.

No thanks, never trusted a reporter in my life. Some of the lowest of the low and most dishonest people around. Cleaning the booths at an Adult Video Store is a more respectable profession.

So here's the status for walkers (from personal experience):
    Arby's:take-out OK
Taco Bell:Need a car, drive-though only - this is recent, they were accepting take-out orders for awhile, but probably didn't get enough foot traffic to justify it.
Mcdonald's: No problem - take out is fine (as you mentioned)
Haven't gone to Subway or Dominos so glad you covered those.

I don't understand how you can't be around people but unknown people can make your food and hand you the to go bag, napkins, utensils etc etc.
Heck, it is safe for them to pour you a 32oz soda and hand it to you!?
For some reason the Virus infects everything but the food supply and to go orders.
People are so worried they have to have the grocery store pack up boxes of food for them while they where masks and gloves.
Some of these same people head next door to McDonalds where the virus doesn't survive for some reason.

Yes. Also it doesn't seem to infect mail.

Mr Singer excellent point about the RJ being owned by the Adelsin family. That means you can consider this as serious.

I was reviewing the Trump plan and it seems to me casinos fall into the third step.

I'm sorry but I think it will be a few months at best before casinos are open. I only hope my neighbors get help and that Nevada straightens out its unemployment system.

And I really hope there is another round of stimulus.

I don’t know if you guys or joking or serious, but I thought I’d add my two cents worth for what’s it worth.

Even though the virus can exist on various items for as long as 17 days, they (meaning the “experts”...and when I say “experts”, I don’t mean the goofballs they have on CNN or CNBC) know the main mode of transmission of this virus is from one person to another through the air. It happens mostly through coughing, but singing or talking aggressively can also produce a lot of the airborne virus.

Thus, the reason almost everybody got the virus in that famous church choir practice up in Washington last month, even though they didn’t hug each other or touch anything during the choir practice. They only sang for 2 hours. They thought they were being safe, but they didn’t know the main mode of transmission is through the air. After singing for 2 hours, I expect one infected person could easily infect that whole room. Nobody was sick at the time of the choir practice.

The best example I know showing the virus, for the most part, is difficult to transmit through infected food workers is our good ‘ol Diamond Princess example. All the people who cooked and prepared the food during the 30 day quarantine were infected with the virus, except one or two. And still 83% of the people on the ship never contacted the virus. They think most the people that got it, got it before the ship was quarantined.

While I’m not a fan of the lockdown and social isolation, I understand why they are doing it. They know people being within 6 feet of each other is the main mode of transmission of this virus (or any virus like it, which includes the flu viruses).

It’s very difficult to get it by just touching a surface that has the virus, or through infected food workers. I’m not saying I’m an expert on this, but I have read a lot and I’m understanding better why social distancing is so important in stopping its spread.

You should be good getting your food at any take out place, as long as the person who takes your money doesn’t cough on you. Lol

Mr Bob21 brings up valid points. While the virus can be detected on various surfaces for many days it loses its potency on surfaces quickly. This info came out when the social media hysteria started about gas pump handles. Don't worry about the virus on gas pump handles worry about the carcinogenic gasoline on gas pump handles and all the other crap.

But because this is primarily an airborne problem I'm seeing more about having customers and dealers all wearing masks when casinos reopen and an end to smoking and NO MORE COCKTAIL service at tables or machines. You'll still be able to get a drink but not while playing.

Phase 2 of the Trump plan has bars opening back up. In Montana the machines are in the bars. So we are looking at maybe mid May for gambling to return to Montana. And that's only if all goes well. There has to be a decline in cases to move to phase 2.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Mr Mickeycrimm from what I'm hearing machines will be the first to open in Vegas as well. Machines don't require the staffing that tables do, so for a few months while casino attendance is low machines might be all we get.
