Thread: Will the Las Vegas Strip Open Soon

These 14 day quarantines for people entering a state make zero fucking sense. It’s spread throughout the US already so what’s the justification for crossing over some arbitrary line within the same country. He’s “urged” people to do so when coming from or returning from a different state since end of March but can’t find anything saying it’s “mandatory” unless it hasn’t shown up yet. He reeeaaaallllly doesn’t want to get re-elected.

It didn't go great. I tested negative for antibodies. My brother tested positive for antibodies, meaning he had the virus, is fully recovered and may have some immunity for a period of time.

Since I tested positive for the virus, there is no question that I had it. And believe me, I know I had it. So the only issue is that I haven't developed antibodies yet. I was still having some lingering symptoms as late as the middle of last week and you are supposed to be symptom free for at least 10 days before getting the antibody test to make sure your body has had time to start making antibodies. So I guess I rushed the test a bit. I will retest next week. But I am feeling great, fully recovered, so all is good. I would like that confirmation though that I may have some immunity although they don't even know that for sure.
The devil is in the details.....

OK, so the Gov is opening some businesses on sat May 9, including restaurants barber shops, and beauty parlors at 50% occupancy. No Bars or casinos.

He did indicate that the casino control commission will be making the decision as to when casinos can open.

One kind of funny thing: Restaurants can open but employees must wear a face mask or coving and customers are encouraged to. The obvious question is how does one eat with a face mask on?

Dan Druff: "there's no question that MDawg has been an obnoxious braggart, and has rubbed a ton of people the wrong way. There's something missing from his stories. Either they're fabricated, grossly exaggerated, or largely incomplete".

So first question was about casinos and the question said that some casinos were planning on opening by memorial day weekend. the question was: Is that unrealistic. Gov's answer: The gaming commission is handling when Casinos can open. He wouldn't want to say when that might be. In other words, he didn't say no, they wouldn't be open by Memorial day.

add on: I heard no mention of any 14 day quarantine period for people coming from out of state.

I guess states have no way of just blocking flights to las vegas. Las Vegas is pretty much the worst destination because any trip there negates any hope at contact tracing. I mean, you might live there or something, but in general it seems like it might be a reasonable thing to do. Other places one might limit the people they're in contact with, but Las Vegas? lol. I guess you have plastic between everyone... whatever.

The idea of contract tracing at this point is complete fantasy and has been for at least a month.

Story on the local news tonight about Utah, which is the neighboring state, so we sometimes have stories about Utah.

So they are doing this thing tracking people by phone use. Anyone who tests positive, the state is able to see via your phone use, where you have gone and who you came in contact with recently and the state will be contacting those people. This don't sound like the America I know.

So Station casinos and Boyd are now taking reservations beginning May 22. Oh my that would be Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Who would have guessed?

It's going to be super easy to spot card counters.

There is thing thing called bluetooth and smartphones. It can be done with tech for the time being. It doesn't necessarily have to be the case that there is a team of people forcing you to quarantine. Someone finds they have it, then it could be broadcast to those who were around this person. The tech could even keep track of how often you are close to them, to help quantify risk you might have it.

Although this all falls within the realm of fantasy given the participation rate it'd require. It is technically a possibility though.

Reading through the gaming commission re-opening policy approved today, I see this:

These items must be disinfected any time a new player comes in contact with them: Cards, chips, rails, chairs, dice, card shoes, shufflers, wheels, Pai Gow tiles, pit podiums, blackjack discard holders and toke boxes.

How do you disinfect cards, chips, dice, every time a player comes in contact with them? For Blackjack that would be after every hand?

The player already doesn't touch the cards in shoe blackjack games. I wonder if they are going to make it so the player doesn't touch the chips either? Maybe something like you buy in for $500, the dealer pushes a stack of 20 $25 chips in front of you, but you are not allowed to touch them. Instead you have to tell the dealer how much you want to bet and the dealer places the chips in the betting circle, thus the player never touches the chips. That would slow the game to a crawl.

Update: Governor Sisolak has announced a 14 day quarantine for anyone traveling into the state of Nevada.
Where did Sisolak say that mickey? Not doubting you but would like to read it. His new conference starts in 10 minutes, he will probably talk about it.

I wonder if incoming people can quarantine at a casino and play on the floor during quarantine.
    It was a joke, KJ.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

It would also draw more attention to bet amounts, and fluctuations in bet amounts

Arkansas has 3 casinos opening May 18th. Few out West here and there. Nothing in the East yet. I feel sad.

The bad news is when the strip opens there will no longer be a Siegfried & Roy show at Mirage.

The good news is there is a new single dude out there for KJ.

for starters, it seems like there's going to be less people at the tables. If they decide to open up more tables and they have the same amount of customers and the same amount of Pit Bosses you might be alright. Guess we'll have to see exactly how they're going to go about everything. I believe it would be a lot easier for me to spot a card counter with less spots going out of table. I can usually spot on Advantage player a mile away.

When a new casino opens, not always but sometimes it creates a situation that we in the blackjack AP community call a "candy store". (not sure if the other AP fractions use that lingo). What that means is, even if some of the pit, surveillance, dealers are experienced coming from other locations or properties, it can take them a while to settle in to new routines and new ways of doing things that might be different from where they came from. This creates a situation where a player can often get away with more than would otherwise be tolerated.

I think there may be some of that going on, with new and different responsibilities. Pit critters are going to have to make sure everyone is wearing a mask and whatever other precautions the casino control commission is implemented are followed. They are going to have to make sure a seat is wiped down after a player exits, maybe even at times doing that extra duty themselves. Surveillance is going to have extra responsibilities of making sure people are staying spread out, not rearranging the furniture to play side by side. Someone is also going to have to keep a count of patrons and make sure it doesn't exceed the 50% rate. I am guessing that will fall to surveillance as they have the best view of the entire casino. Things are just going to be different for a while and that might work to a players advantage until things settle down and people settle into a routine.
