Thread: First casino to go out of business

The Lakeside Inn in Tahoe announced they are not going to reopen based on not getting a government loan.

While smaller than the other 4 South Shore casinos, they had friendly employees and had reasonably priced restaurants. Sad for the employees.

I was thinking since this is probably the first time this has happened about the progressives. Normally a casino announces they will be closing and have drawings or other ways to clear out all progressive jackpots as required by law.

In this case, they closed as required and are not opening back up. They said they will announce a way to cash vouchers and chips in, but I’m sure they won’t have enough staff to do a drawing or anything.

I’m sure Lakeside won’t be the last to announce they are not reopening.

My wife and I stayed there years ago on my first trip to northern Nevada. Really funky place with a small cozy casino.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

I used to sweep out the flush attacks there. That goes back to the late nineties.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Yes, no doubt some casino operators will figure this (the owning and operation of a casino) is no longer a profitable business model, since they will have to put less machines in per unit area, will have less elderly customers coming in (which is usually the majority of patrons), will have significantly increased custodial costs (due to having to wipe everything down quite regularly), will have less non-elderly customers coming in, shuddering poker rooms and perhaps non-kiosk sportsbooks, along with a bunch of stuff I wouldn't even know to think of. I would imagine that some of the brick and mortar casino operators that close their operations might try to enter the online casino space, especially if regulations become less stringent in regards to US casino player online processing.

I kind of liked the dump. More or less because I like Tahoe and hate CET properties than anything else, decent food, andhopefully they'll reopen under other ownership in a couple years.

While this casino isn't specifically about Las Vegas some Las Vegas area casinos may never reopen also so we can say it's related plus the Las Vegas subsection should be renamed at this point because it's become more not Las Vegas related than Las Vegas related due to a combination of the membership and lax moderation. But....under the California/Western casinos header it does say... "Use this Forum to discuss news and events and to ask questions about casinos in California and other portions of the western US (excluding Vegas)" and Lakeside was in the western US excluding Las Vegas.
