Thread: Casino news (not necessarily coronavirus related)

Gaming stocks plummeted today, especially the companies with large presence in Las Vegas. Not sure what that means. I see no financial reports that were worse than expected as everything was expected to be bad. I am wondering if this is a reflection that casino re-opening might not be coming as soon as expected and the extended rebound might not be as optimistic as originally thought with these occupancy restrictions.

In unrelated news, Hard Rock International, re-purchased the rights to the Hard Rock brand and trademarks, including restaurant names that it has sold just 2 years ago when they decided to pull put of Las Vegas. This raises speculation that at some point they intend to return to the Las Vegas Market, possibly purchasing a strip location at some point in the future.

CZR lost approximately 4%, MGM lost 10% today. They have been bouncing all over the place. I bought CZR around $8, well above it’s low of $5 and change. I’m still up over 20% on it.

The bigger thing affecting Caesars stock price is the sale/ merger. And don’t forget the market was down overall today based on uncertainty overall in the economy.

Yeah but Red Rock (stations) and Boyd both dropped pretty dramatically, like 15-20%. Just seems like the companies with big ties to Vegas dropped pretty considerably. I wonder if there is some news that we haven't heard about, like re-openings being delayed.

Yea, thats why smart money hasn't jumping back in the market. Vegas is fucked for at least a year and will be fucked for some time after that. I don't want to claim I actually know what is going on, but the place seemed overbuilt to me. I mean if they weren't printing money and able to easily service debt before corona hit.. what are they going to do now. So greedy. Bad news for a lot of people in Las Vegas. My girlfriend always tells me how happy she was we went so much last year. I probably spent 6 weeks or so there last year. Aria/Bellagio/Rio/The D/P.H/Ballys. Hell I even made her stay at The Manor one night because the first and only time I stayed there was my first trip to Vegas. Wow what a nightmare. 1+ hour just to check-in. What is wrong with that place. I won't be back until vaccine or I've caught Corona elsewhere. Lots of smart people with money sitting around home avoiding it. You'll get the real gamblers who are really sick, but mostly they'll be people who already caught it or are young.. but.. who the hell is traveling who has money? That place is fucked. It sucks because I'm like "fuck the casinos" you park feeing 6:5 fucking assholes, but then the casinos are what makes Vegas. One of my closest friend has a good deal of his net worth in vegas real estate. sigh.

I mean think how much they're going to have to cut their room prices. No conventions. THe town is all about conventions. No shows to draw people. Execs be praying the old sickies get it so they can get around their concern and show up..

The other thing is death rates grew without the lockdown. So.. this shit is going to blow up all over. It has done nothin but grow during our lockdown. Things are going to now get a bit hairy and if not now, it'll 100% be back after Summer. Even if summer kills it off dramatically, it'll be right there when it starts to get colder. I've been buying BTC to hedge against the money printing inflation. Even Buffet is getting into BTC I believe. Buckle up. I'd suggest looking for a secondary income stream Kewl. It is going to be ugly out there.

Again, I don't claim to know much but fuck I'd be surprised if they can even operate those places at a profit. They'll start closign down the restaurants and such. 1 restaurant open in the casino, no table games. All machines. Shit like that. I guess floor staff relies on tips, so they can keep open some tables.

I stand corrected. I thought he said something positive about it recently.

Yea, double checked. I was wrong. Pretty sure he's getting out of stocks to some degree and I thought he'd actually given BTC a positive mention in passing but whatever put that in my head seems to have been bs clickbait or me confused.

Yeah, I saw a graph, that on March 10 or there abouts there were like 18 deaths in the US. Today, may 13 there is 84 thousand. Probably going to hit 100k over the Memorial day weekend. AND THAT IS WITH THE COUNTRY LOCKED DOWN ALL MOST OF THAT TIME.

I think casinos and whatever else opens is going to be short lived. Deaths are going to spike badly and we go right back to lockdown with the exception being some factories (at least until the workers revolt) food stores, take out restaurants. Maybe some small shops can be open allowing 2 or 3 people in at a time. Can they survive on that? We are going to have no schools, no college, no sports, no concerts, none of that until there is a vaccine. Those of us that already had it, we don't even know if that offers any protection.

The 1918 Spanish flu just up and went away in like 1920 after 3 or 4 waves. Maybe that will happen, but it ain't happening this year. I don't know maybe people will just accept the high death rates. I said that early on. We'll see. We'll see what happens when we hit 100k in 10 days or so. We will see what happens when we hit 200k in about half the time it took to get to 100k. We'll see what happens when we hit 500k and then a million. There is going to be a point, I don't know when it is, maybe when people have lost a few members of their own family and friends, but there will be a point when people say "Fuck no, I am not risking my life, until there is a vaccine". That is when it gets interesting.

When the videos and stories of the bodies piling up in uhaul and dripping of rotting human corpse fluid so bad neighbors complain. Those are the stories that'll grip people. But small towns and such will avoid it. Schools though with children. Thats impossible. Those kids won't have symptoms and give it to their parents. Most places aren't NYC, but the cases going to go up.

People putting money into market thinking they're getting a good deal. No thanks. I missed shorting this mess. Not going to guess when to get in.

Hey, unrelated, I was out today for a bit and saw a public transit bus stop to pick up a person. The bus was right in front on me, so I got a good look. The person entered through the back door and it looked like the front half of the bus was blocked off with Tape, so people couldn't go near the driver. Not surprising the bus driver union would demand that, especially after the Detroit driver incident. But does that mean people don't pay? You pay up by the driver and that is blocked off. Is public transit free during these times? How long can they keep that up?

Yea, I could see that being the case. Interesting. I have almost never used buses in Vegas but the lack of revenue from their buses is probably the least of their concerns.

You can control your hands, but you can't control what you breath. Keeping passengers away. They might even put plastic barrier up between the driver and everyone else. Actually, I'd bet they are doing that. Pretty smart really. Around here you can't even pay with cash on the bus, they moved to prepaid cards and tickets. Vegas probably needs cash as so many homeless without alt payment methods.

So they integrate cleaning into playing the game with a card. Pull card out and machine is deactivated? maybe it'd just be a warning and suggestion for the attendant. If the machine is actually locked after pulling out players card, that won't last long as it is too cumbersome.

When I first moved to Vegas, in 2009, I used public transportation for I guess about 3 years. I lived a block off the strip then and walked a lot, but would take the bus downtown and to some of the local places. At that time you could pay cash or buy a 24 hour, 15day or 30 day pass. The strip buses (deuce and SDX) worked the same although the cost and length of passes were different.

The last time I rode the bus was about a 2 years ago when my brothers friends came to town for a music festival. On the nights we were going out drinking, we would take the bus, so as not to drive drunk and it was very convenient to my home at the time, in summerlin, and the strip and downtown. One bus. At that time they had just added the technology where you could pay with your phone by swiping it on a screen in the bus. But all 3 of these payment methods occurred right up front by the driver. If they are not letting people enter through the front, or get anywhere near the driver, I don't see how anyone can be paying. And I just don't see how they can allow that for long. The transit company is a private company. They put out a bid every couple years and they are in it to make money.

I still say that with blackjack, there will be a move to a TITO type stadium blackjack style format for most games. That is a TITO system for betting, so no chips, no player touching cards. You have 1 live dealer for up to 30, 50, even 100 players. And you can spread the terminals out a bit so there is some distance between them. THAT is going to be the end result for blackjack at all but higher limit, within a year. At high limit they probably will stick with chips and 2 or 3 people per table, maybe with those plastic dividers you have seen in the news. But it is just not feasible to do that at the lower limits for long.

I was thinking there would be more of those Video blackjack games with the 5 seats and video dealers with big boobs, but even those seats are too close. That stadium blackjack TITO is the answer. And that is not going to be good for me.
