Thread: Super bingo at the Plaza

I know there are Bingo players all over America -- including bingo players who flock to Vegas. And even today there are more places to play bingo than there are to play craps and video poker in America... and there are probably more Bingo halls than Baseball Diamonds in America too.

So, the Plaza in downtown Vegas is having a big bingo tourney according to this press release:

The Plaza Hotel and Casino will host its $150,000 Super Bingo tournament, Jan. 29 through Jan. 31. Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, whose steakhouse Oscar’s Beef ∙ Booze ∙ Broads opened last month at the Plaza, will be on hand to call the first balls for the last coverall game on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Guest registration for the $150,000 Super Bingo tournament begins on Sunday, Jan. 29, with main events occurring Monday, Jan. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Players receive complimentary continental breakfast on both event days and can play in seven early bird games starting at 11:30 a.m., with a total payout of $14,000 over the two days.

Each Super Bingo session starts at 12:30 p.m. and has 21 non-linked games for a total of 42 games with a $25,000 coverall each day. Players are eligible for a total of $150,000 in payouts between early bird and Super Bingo games.

Once the Super Bingo sessions are complete, players can take part in regularly scheduled bingo sessions and win more prizes in the Bonus Bingo drawings. Winners of the $10,000 Bingo Bonus drawings are selected throughout the event and prizes include bingo vouchers, free slot play and entries to other 2012 Super Bingo events.

Future Super Bingo events at the Plaza will be held April 22-24, July 6-8, Oct. 11-16 and Dec. 14-16. The most recent addition to the Plaza’s Super Bingo events for 2012 is the Tournament of Winners which will be held on Dec. 16 during the December Super Bingo event. Entry into the Tournament of Winners is provided to all Super Bingo game winners throughout 2012 events for a chance to compete for cash awards. Players also have the chance to get discounted or free entry to the December Super Bingo event if they book multiple events in 2012.

While I won't be playing bingo in the forseeable future, would't interested parties be wondering right now if there's a registration fee or not--and how much? I do plan on hitting Oscar's new restaurant soon however.

I have to plug the Plaza here. I didn't know if my last flight would make it to Las Vegas or not, so I waited until onboard to book a Saturday night room with hotels.com. I got the Plaza for $45, everything included. I hadn't stayed there in 10 years, at least.

Well, the Plaza is looking pretty good after the renovation, but the room was so nice that it stunned me. They hijacked the furnishings from the bankrupt Fountainebleu, and the rooms are quite nice. Now, do not use the Plaza parking garage -- you feel as if you're in the Grand Theft Auto video game and expect to be killed every 3.5 seconds, but the room itself was snazzy and a great deal on a Saturday night. Alan -- this place may qualify as a Saturday night Best Buy.

Now, how much was that bingo registration?

Here's the video report I did on the Plaza and the furnishings they got from the F'bleu... I did this video back in June of 2011.

I only got to see sample rooms, so I would appreciate info if these sample rooms were similar to what guests will find in "regular" rooms as well.

I have to find out more details about the Bingo. It's not even clear on the Plaza's own website.

The press department at the Plaza gave me the new pricing. You bingo players will have to tell me what kind of a deal this is:

"We have released pricing for the April Super Bingo Event. For the Hotel & Bingo package (includes 3-nights Apr. 22 – 24, both sessions of Super Bingo, $20 Free Slot Play, 2 Super Bingo Daubers and 2 $10 Dining Certificates), package price is $199. However, if you book by February 29, you will receive this package for $169 + 1 Free Night to use on April 21 or April 25."

The room I had, while not a suite as pictured in some of the video, was very much similar. My room had the photo of the Plaza circa 1950, which is seen in one of the video shots. Furnishings in my room were identical to those shown. The standard room was quite nice, and next time I'll ask about a suite. To sum up -- the video is representative of the look of the standard rooms as well. They are nicely done.

The $169 sounds like a great deal. I don't even know how to play moderne bingo, but this looks like it's all positive expectation, as I'd shell out that much for four nights at the Plaza itself.
