Thread: Jean Scott's 35 Years of Advantage Play

  1. #1
As some of you know Jean and Brad Scott retired from advantage video poker play and moved to Columbus, Georgia to be close to family. Brad is in failing health.

In her LVA blog Jean is writing about Her and Brad's 35 years of advantage play. I find it to be very interesting. She claims that thru 2007 they made a million dollars. And it looks like from that point to 2019 she is claiming they made another million dollars.

You can view her blog here, and start from part 1 if you like:

Here is an old video from the Travel Channel from 2003. It features Jean and Brad back in the golden days of AP and comps. It also features the usual cast of characters from the time period including AC and a young Wizard of Odds himself.

Some cool pictures of old downtown motels I’m sure you remember along with a lot of BS on “winning”. It’s definitely worth an hour of your time for the memories.

A million dollars in twelve years?

WOW -- To think I looked down on AP’ing for a living. Goes to show you how much of a fucking idiot I was.

A million here/a million there over the years, while using play-trackable slot club cards....and all while the casinos simply looked the other way as they continuously just kept handing out the comps, gifts, and cash to the sweet old couple--year after year after year. Bob Dancer ain't got nothin' on them! But of course none of them is me, so like democrats being interviewed on CNN, no one will question a word. Not even from one jealous soul. Which is why my wife and I always have smiles on our faces knowing my methods and results of the past, while we continually do stuff those stuck in their LV lives wish they had the means to get out and do for a change.

However, the nostalgia of these old videos sure brings back fond memories of the way it used to be and never will be again. And kudos to Jean for having had the ability over the years to feed the players exactly what they really wanted and needed. In that regard, win or lose, she was truly a marketing genius.

Yeah, they hit it big from the salad days all the way through the golden days.

When did the "thru 2007" period start?

Bad quote attributed to me. You took my comments and Mick’s and combined them.

The reason there are only about five people here. The reason Mickey is in some wheelchair alone. Yeah, sure, don't forget the Newell.

Tell me it's not a disease. I mean, who the hell would want such a life, anyway?

    555 = 111 + 4*111 = 15*37, or 37*15, as 153, and 7, or, 371, and 5. As 153 on 371, to 5/7 left, as 6 +/- 1.

    3/21 to 8/22 is 153 + 1 days. 321 = 107*3 + 0; 123 = 3*71 + 0. To 1/0. 822 = (-1 + 7)(37 + 100); 228 = 57[6 - (1 + 1)], ---> 11411. 15[3^2] = 153 + (5 + 1). 154 days is ~ 42.08% of year 2020. 451 = 11*41^1.

Queen of comps. NOT QUEEN OF AP.
Normally I don't like people who write about AP stuff however her information wasn't something that I felt impacted other advantage players in a negative way. I actually think her stuff may have even helped us overall, but who knows.

I have no clue how much she made in the advantage play field, however I never seen her on any juicy promotions or plays that were worth mentioning. She did her thing working with thin edges for the most part.

I think she was a writer and self promoter for the most part and I think she had a best seller and made most of her money from non AP stuff.

Two retired people that were already financially secure spent 35 years hanging out in the casinos when they felt like it and made 2 million dollars in the process. Retired people love to hang out in the casinos but its rare that one of them will show a longterm profit.

They weren't AP'ing for a living. They were both retired, already financially secure, and having fun in the casinos.

I don't think anyone here cares one way or the other what you like or don't like being posted. You're just another meaningless anonymous nobody.

You say you have no clue how much she made, then you say you think you really know how she made most of her money. Another words you don't have a fucking clue or confirmed fact about anything for certain. You endlessly speak on these forums like your the King of the territory, when in reality you're just another alleged this or alleged that. God forbid someone posts up making money in L.V. for 35 years regardless how little it was. Their not ever gonna shine the great AXELWOLF's shoes. Take a fucking walk you fucking asshole.

Good for two happily married people who decided to spend more than half of their lives in casinos chasing free burgers, fries, and some pocket change. Maybe all the smoke they inhaled, germ infested coins they handle, and free cheap fatty foods they consumed help put Brad into his death bed earlier than expected.

I don’t know about you but I certainly couldn’t go to any amusement park and ride the same roller coaster for 35 fucking years even if for free.

It’s entertaining to read how all you alleged gambling professionals view their stone age accomplishments as something special.

Have to disagree with you on these 2. Brad is now in his late 80’s and is living longer than most of us will. I think at times you have to remember the average America works some shitty job they hate for the majority of their life and have little to show for it. Most people are not as successful financially as you appear to be. Certainly they made the choice, but it the way most end up. And their retirement years suck because they can’t do whatever they want.

To be able to do something they enjoyed like Jean and Brad did later in life should be respected, not assaulted. Even if they didn’t make money, which they did, by all means they enjoyed casinos and being together. The details on how they made their money (gambling or writing) can be debated but who the hell cares?

Not sure why you picked these 2 to bust on, but to me they lived their later years doing what they enjoyed. I would hope everyone has the ability to live life how they choose in retirement. I believe you are doing it because of your hard work or made smart investments over the years, as are others on here. People give Rob a hard time but I can guarantee you he is enjoying his life, traveling doing whatever the hell he wants.

Plenty of people and stuff to bust on with these forums, I just don’t see it with Jean and Brad. But whatever, it’s what we do.

I thought it was funny they were showing cheap hotels like the Ferguson and Traveler down Fremont Street from the casino district as a way to save money on hotel rooms. That area is a combat zone and would scare the shit out of any tourist. LOL!

One of the things I like about Jean was she was pure player's advocate. She never worked the darkside. Sklansky, Shackleford and Dancer all taught gamblers how to beat the house and taught the house how to not get beat by the players. They were playing both ends against the middle. Dancer referred to Jean and Brad as "small fry." But she never worked the darkside. Pure player's advocate.

This reminds me of one of my favorite great uncles, Alvin Gill. When he died they found a big pile of whiskey bottles in his backyard. My grandmother couldn't quit talking about how her poor brother drank himself to death. He was only 87 years old. Would have lived to 110 if not for the drinking. The poor man drank himself to death. LOL!!

Not busting on anyone but the asshole AxelWolf. He sticks that extended wolf nose of his into any conversation concerning anyone with claims of making money in Vegas regardless of how big or small the claim is. Sadly, his comments are always based on assumptions and guesses like the phony image of himself he endlessly tries to portray on these forums.

I thought it was nice to see two married people happily spending their lives together. But it’s nothing new. Millions of married couples are still happy in their old age doing all sorts of things together. Since their lives were spent in casinos together it must have special meaning on these forums to people who spent and still spend most of their waking hours in them.

My comments about health in casinos are a fact. In my gambling days a couple of days or a weekend were all I could take in casinos. It was like spending a weekend in Grand Central Station in N.Y. If I ever stayed for a week, I usually couldn’t wait to get the fuck out of there or would leave early. You have to feel bad for the people forced to work in Casinos and places like Grand Central Terminal everyday their whole lives.

If she was taking in several million like she alludes to, Dancer was wrong about them being "small fries". They, like him, had to have casino owners, slot club managers, and every casino host in their hip pockets in order to win/rinse/& repeat over and over again---all while constantly being invited in to rape them over and over again. For decades.

Sounds easy. She's a retired English teacher and Brad a retired naval veteran. If these people could do it, imagine what the self-described genius Vegas AP's are getting away with. It's got to be mind-boggling. I mean, take the wizard for instance. He makes so much money gambling that he can afford to put $500 down for the Burning Man experience--plus expenses of course--and that doesn't even consider how much profit he's giving up by taking a whole week off from APing!
