But that seemed empty, given that he drove his own son into filing bankruptcy by pouring all his money into the poker machines instead of paying HIM for his work. I will be boring and make an attempt to answer the original question. I believe Dan wanted to preserve some threads or information he posted on this forum. When he learned that Alan had planned to shut down the forum, an agreement was made for Dan to continue and own VCT. No money was involved. Approximately, 1 1/2 years ago Alan indicated that his son had worked extensively on the software for this forum and that some sort of payment would be appropriate.

If I recall, Dan offered, back then, to answer any questions about this. I gather that the whole thing, transfer of the site, steadily became more complicated. Something about the vBulletin licence, allowing racism, etc. And, Alan concluding that he should have just shut it down.

I think that the forum is much better off the way it is now. Forums that shut themselves from the real and actual world, wherever this leads, can't hope to survive long in a healthy fashion.

I want to say that, despite what happened, I wish Alan and Jason well. Alan is an interesting guy, and not a bad person. He just seems to have a gambling problem, and that has probably caused him to make some poor life decisions. It's too bad that all of this ugliness occurred, because at one point I considered Alan a friend. Among other things, I made a point to meet with him in Vegas and introduce him to my girlfriend and son, and I even spent some time on the phone with him, giving advice about some issues in his personal life.

I don't know Jason, other than my brief interactions with him. However, I know he has a young kid, and financial issues can be incredibly stressful when you have a child to support. For that reason, I don't hold a grudge against him for anything that occurred, but I also hope he understands things from my point of view.

As I mentioned in the thread I linked, I REALLY didn't want to tell that story. I didn't want to air dirty laundry about Alan and Jason, even though it directly involved me. However, since Alan was making false/misleading accusations against me when talking to other people, I had to set the record straight.

Anyone who knows me in real life -- or even through my other forums -- will tell you that I am a man of integrity, and would never screw someone over or rip anyone off. Even most people who dislike me will concede that.
