I was talking to a friend about casino gambling and he said I had no idea about the "true meaning" of certain casino and gambling terms. So, I asked him for some examples:

ACTION The amount of money gamblers whip out of ATMs

BANKROLL The starting money you lose before you hit the ATMs

BEGINNERS LUCK That single event which fools you into thinking you can win

BUY IN The amount you lose initially at a poker game

CARD COUNTING What the casino hopes you'll keep trying as you lose and lose

CASINO OR HOUSE EDGE The size of the knife that is used to cut your wallet out of your pocket

CASINO CREDIT Lose now, pay later

COLD Not only the casino temperature but every machine you ever touched

DROP BOX Where all your money goes

DROP What you lost or the moment you leave the car keys at the auto-pawn store

GAMBLERS RUIN A mathematical formula for determining how quickly you will lose it all

LAYOUT The felt on the table that shows you where to place your bets; and what they do with gamblers who don't pay their markers (see MARKER)

LONG RUN The funny math that casino gamblers use to hope that somehow they will break even or come out ahead before they die (see LAYOUT)

MARKER An IOU when you borrow money on your casino credit; A variation of MARK which is what every casino employee has you pegged for

NUT The cost of operating the casino; the amount of the debt owed by the player; what casino patrons become as they walk in the door

PAYOFF The amount of the check you write to the casino

PAYOUT TABLE Fictional numbers and letters used to decorate video poker and slot machines, and to adorn felts on gaming tables

PIT An area of the casino where money is sucked out of the pockets of casino gamblers; also known for being bottomless because no one has ever seen their money again

RACK The convenient plastic holder used to temporarily hold casino chips before they are lost in the game

RAPID CRAPS A variation of the traditional game designed to take your money more rapidly

RAPID ROULETTE A variation of the traditional game designed to take your money more rapidly

RFB A term used to describe the room, food and beverages that the casino gives you so that you will stay longer and lose more

RIVER The final dealt card in a hand of poker; losing it all as in floating down the river

SCARED MONEY What we all have and what we all lost

SHOE A container used to deal cards in various card games; what you find in your butt when you have no money left

STACK How the dealers arrange your chips when you lose them

WHALE A gambler who makes huge bets; hunted for their oil and cash and hunted to the point of extinction in Las Vegas

I thought it was an interesting list of words and definitions. You can pass it around. Alan
