Thread: Beat the Host Racing Contest

Very exciting. The girlfriend is leading heading into the final race of the finale of the annual Beat the Host contest against a thousand people or thereabouts. It's an impossible race to handicap, so all I can do is wish her well.

Ah, regnis, I was waiting to see if anyone asked.

The bad news is that she lost the last race; the good news is that she won the contest! It was a 50-cent squeaker.

So she winds up having won first place the opening week of Beat the Host versus maybe two thousand, and then she also wins the finale week against about a thousand people. Now I'm not sure because I know nothing, but I don't think anyone has ever done something like that before. So when you see the results board, which is up, that be her.

I really must salute her, especially since, in the middle of the contest, the internet went down here in beautiful Johnson City, TN. She has a hot spot, but she had to completely wing it blind for one race, which she lost. She barely got the pick in. If she didn't have a hot spot, it would have been an utter disaster. We really need to, as the song goes, load up the truck and exit Tennessee. We need a place with one of them cement ponds and good internet.

I'll be surprised if they don't interview her, because they have to be asking, "Who was that masked (wo)man?"

Awesome----congrats to her. I am not familiar with that contest but if that many people were in it then it is quite a feat. Was there a cash prize and/or an NHC berth or something like that??

Now you can add her horse picks to the imaginary football picks that you are accused of selling here. Expand the haters a little-lol.

I had (pre-Covid) stopped playing for the NHC. I have been only playing the larger cash contests which may include an NHC seat if you win but is not my goal. Have been in the money but nothing major and, as I have said many times, I suck at tournament play. $2.00 win and place is not my game. So again--congrats to her. Very impressive!!!

Thanks regnis and Garnabby! I will pass on the congrats. She is not a contest player, regnis, but this was a contest she used to play with her parents, who both passed a couple of years ago, so she decided to do it.

She gets a 6K live bankroll entry into the Pegasus contest next year. Not sure if things will be in person by then so not sure about travel expenses. Because she is not a contest player, I expect she will just do what she can to preserve the bankroll with a couple of wild shots in there (you can play exactas, trifectas, and doubles). If you have any brilliant ideas down the road, regnis, let me know. Because you can play all the wild stuff, it takes some ridiculous amount to win the Pegasus.

Everybody else who won something (#2 through #7) is in contests in two weeks. She waits until next year because Pegasus is in January, generally.

They put up ungodly totals in those anything goes contests. Winner this year had over 50K.

She may want to waste the $50 to join the NHC next year just in case she were to win an NHC entry in the Pegasus. You have to be a member BEFORE you win the entry.

Well, I should get the heck out of here, until I finish my theory of everything.

This particular anagram stuck in my mind because I hadn't finished it off. I think that I put up lots of great ones, along with some interesting recreational math numerals, across the forum for fun. If I recall, only Deech had a kind word to say about it. Attaboy, Deech. (Slang for dirty water or something.)

I guess that he cleared out because Trump lost. It's amazing how self-centered the posters are in here. I guess that gambling turns everything into the here and now. And, about the seemingly drowning "desperation" of the individual, nay, the self. One long session, in and out of the casinos.

Anyway, the remaining letters in the above anagram seem to amount to, BTK destiny. Ha.

See youze on the other side.

483 is such an odd numeral. I wonder how it turns out.

    483 = 3*7*23 = 3*7*(30 - 7) = 1*3*7*(-7 + 30)^1 ---> 137_731.

Not to out-do Red's girlfriend, but not important enough to start a separate thread, going into the Final Four in the NCAA bracket I am in second place in one of the National multiple thousands of participants contests.

However, I can't win because the person in 1st place and I both have Baylor over Houston, he has Gonzaga over UCLA---I don't even have UCLA, and we both have Gonzaga winning.

I actually did not do very well in round 1, but the winners I had won rounds 2 and 3 where you get more points. As usual, my main theme was to fade the BIG TEN which I have been doing for 40 years. Syracuse, Houston, USC were good to me.
