Thread: Virgin Hotels Las Vegas to charge you for comp room if you don't play enough

Seems like they're targeting things that aren't really an issue. I'd think that they are hurting themselves. However - they could be supremely lazy about giving out comps and then f people at the end who were not profitable lol. It could be the world's greatest marketing ploy until word get around too much.
It is official. Redietz will never be on Dan Druff's podcast. "too much integrity"

Apparently the "no outside food or drink" policy was a remnant from the Hard Rock!

Look at this obnoxious cutesy sign, informing you of this oppressive, non-standard policy:

The hotel would have to charge people upfront for the cost of the rooms or threaten to kick them out before the stay was complete. I do know someone close to me in Vegas paid for the 1st night at a hotel, then was supposed to have the 2nd and 3rd night comped on offer and the hotel reneged because this person only played $60 through the machines. Apparently there was some incentive to save the comp for the later nights or they were swayed by the devious hotel staff to book this way. So the comped rooms were taken away and they just decided to leave and pay at another hotel. It was an extended trip, so these reservations were made last minute. Our local hosts couldn't do anything about it, was totally wrong. They made a big deal about playing very little on a night he had to pay for the room and used this logic for the comped nights. Maybe he would have been better off never using a card, but how would he think to predict they're going to be using hardball tactics.

As far as outside beverages, you're not getting onto the casino floor anywhere if you don't bring the same exact packaging they sell at the bar. Maybe you can walk around the lobby, but expect resistance if it seems the beverages were not bought on property, or at least could have been.

If you remember the beat down in AC, those people were being kicked out of their rooms, a scary event for many people out of town with possibly no extra credit on credit cards beyond what was spent obtaining rooms. In that case, they had flights leaving a few days later and they had nowhere safe to stay until then.

I actually make sure the paper I sign at check in clearly says COMP (or something similar), so I don't run into this bullshit at checkout.

I've never actually been forced to pay for a comp room before, though. But I always figured better safe than sorry.

I have had it before where it's implied if I play X amount it will "probably be okay" to get me more comps nights later, and then of course they always renege and claim they never promised that. So in that case, I always have a backup plan, knowing I might get fucked. But at least there it wasn't guaranteed.

Apparently they really are voiding comped rooms because of perceived insufficient play.

They're also kicking out popular Vegas bloggers.

My comments on the above video:

They likely couldn't delay opening any further because I'm guessing they have a contract with Mohegan Sun to open up ASAP.

The comp-voiding situation is awful. That's a disaster. This is totally non-standard for Vegas, and it's going to drive people away quickly. This basically makes comps useless, as you have to earn your free stay on your CURRENT trip!

When I had heard Virgin was taking over Hard Rock and rebranding, I pictured that it was going to be classy and customer-friendly. They've become the opposite, and that's a huge problem. As the video said, the property has enough negatives (expensive, off-strip, bad area) and few positives (no popular US brand or interesting theme), to where their only chance of survival is good word-of-mouth and great customer service.

I think the partnership with Mohegan is a disaster, because Indian casinos are notoriously penny-pinching and customer-unfriendly, and that's the last culture Virgin should want to see there.

    This is going to fail.

Mohegan Sun partnered with an Indian tribe to build Ilani, the closest, newest casino to Portland, Oregon, and they really screwed the pooch.

No hotel, no buffet, initially no covered parking (rains a lot) and all dining options are owned by third parties.

No older slots on the casino floor.

Always long lines to get to the only cashier area, and about half the ticket redemption machines are usually down and not working causing long ines and unacceptable delay in cashing out.

Inattentive drink service, hideously high prices on food, and it is too bright inside.

The casino is busy and profitable but I do not enjoy playing or dining there thus I mostly avoid it and opt to travel a couple hours to gamble elsewhere.

I fault both design and management, but the place is busy as they're the closest casino to Portland: location, location, location.

Too bad there's no viable competition in the nearby vicinity.
