Thread: What is your favorite Las Vegas Casino? Past or Present? :D

  1. #1
I've heard Golden Nugget, Stratosphere, Bellagio, Ceasars Palace, Aria, Jerry's Nugget, are REALLY good Casinos. When I was Kentry on WOV, I mentioned Aria Casino from time to time despite never playing there. I just liked the sound of it. It's a beautiful name. .... What are your favorite Las Vegas Casinos, past or Present?

Edit. Title should have read,"Are," not "Is," and Casinos, not Casino. I noticed the mistakes about a second after I pressed,"Post,"

Take comfort in the fact that no one is actually backing up his wishes to have you permanantly banned.

Smart is knowing a Tomato is a fruit.

Wise is knowing a Tomato doesn't belong in a fruit salad.

No real favorite, but we usually stay at MGM.

The "most memorable" has to be the now defunct Western.

    Good grief, what a bum-fest!

    You're right! It does.

It was kind of across the street from Stardust in a strip center that I think was called Fashion Square back then. South of the El Morocco, another fine establishment. In those days we found all the cheap food joints including the warehouse Buffet at Stardust--all the grease you could eat for $3.95.

My friend still has an old fun book from Mr. Sy's, or at least what remains of it after we used up a bunch of the coupons.

Here are the casinos that were where the Bonanza gift shop is.

Was the CBS Sports World casino located where Mr Sy’s was? I think it’s shopping now near Taco El Gordo.

Here are a couple more that show the entire Bonanza property including the current sign. And an adult book store on the property.

The article you linked to had a shill at Mr. Sy's saying:

""It’s to get people to come in and play," explained Christiansen. "You iet there and play and they see you winning all that money, because our machines were set up to win more."

    Huh?

The shill's comment says the machines had frequent wins; but to make them so frequent so as to have passersby hear / see the coins dropping would require the machines to pay off so frequently that the house would have no edge.

Was it just the one machine the shill sat at that was juiced this way, and if so were others than the shill allowed to play it?

This story answered my question. CBS Sports World casino was located at 3049 LVB, which is the same address as the Kimchi Korean BBQ place mentioned in the linked article. I barely remember and never entered Sports World but did see it on a trip to The ‘Ho and Stardust many years ago.

Not much info on CBS but here are some chips.

Back in the '90s- early 2000's I would have to say the Rio, and here is why. Aside from the fact that it has a special place in my heart as it was the first place where I played Flush Attack, and after only profiting $70 in a few hours, I realized just how valuable the situation was. It wasn't the amount of money I won, it was the why I won that money, and how little of a bankroll I would need to proceed. Just earning a simple $70 was such a fun joyful and exciting moment in my life. I can still remember the adrenaline rush I would get when the flush attack light came on and I feverishly played and the Happy Feeling you would get when you beat out everyone and hit the Flush Attack bonus.

    Back to the other reasons:

From when you first arrived, the building was kinda cool looking.

    The parking was always convenient.

The atmosphere and layout of the gaming floor what is unique, it wasn't cramped or boxy it's as if it had different areas and sections, unlike that bingo hall feeling. The high ceilings and general ambiance decor(not usually my style, but I liked it).

The always friendly good looking Rio Rita and her gang ran around the casino doing their thing the fun festive atmosphere that provided.

THE COCKTAIL WAITRESS, OMG THE COCKTAIL WAITRESSES AND THEIR OUTFITS!! Side note: I was friends with a young new and upcoming bar manager from my previous place of employment who was now the bar manager at the Rio. He told me his policy about only hiring the hottest youngest females for cocktailing.

They were one of the first places to offer a quality buffet that included various different types of food stations like Chinese food, a burger bar, etc. IIRC at some point, they also had a different area that they set up for the Friday night seafood buffet that had quality seafood, steaks, and more. they had many other good restaurants such as Buzios, even the snack bar was good.

They were one of the first places that did away with the coin buy-in logbook and gave you a scan card for comps when you bough in for coins. The changed person or cashier would simply scan your card and enter the amount you bought in for and you could now use that to earn comps and use at restaurants without having to mess with a host or whomever or that booklet. This made it fast and easy to do the coin exchange comp hustle.

At some point, Rio became a hotspot for hot girls and a party atmosphere.

    The Voodoo Lounge & Steakhouse

They had good comps, some +EV games, and good promotions.

THE CASH IS KING PROMO scratch card promo they ran 2 times that lasted the entire month each time provided good times and a nice juicy +EV chunk of money. During that time I have no doubt I put in some 16 hours days with my friends, workers, and partners and enjoyed every moment. I even ended up dating a few of the chang girls after the promos.

I have been in there quite a few times, and IIRC for a short time it was a pool hall for a while, I can't say 100% that it was that exact same building, but the poolhall was back there in that corner somewhere. I was friends with a few of the change girls and cocktail waitresses at work and we would go hang out shoot some pool have a few drinks after work from time to time.

CBS Sports World actully had some good coupons available, I'm not sure where you got the coupons anymore, but I believe they were in some publication. The basic gist of the coupon was that it was considered a two(2) in Blackack that you could use as your hit card, E.g. turn your 19 into a 21. They allowed you to bet up to $500. I remember one session where I was trying to use the coupon "in the perfect situation" and I blasted off like 7k.
