Thread: Things you don't like/Didn't like about your local Casinos? :/

  1. #1
One of my Local Casinos used to blare this obnoxious, blaring, REALLY loud Techno Music. An Elderly Woman was like,"They are really putting off their Elderly Gamblers like me with this obnoxious Techno Music. I am in my 80's and don't want to hear this loud, obnoxious, blaring, Techno Music when I came to Gamble and relax. They clearly aren't thinking of their Elderly Gamblers like me with this loud Techno Music. " I didn't blame her at all. I am way younger than her, I am a Millennial, and this loud, blaring, obnoxious Techno Music upset ME too! It's a CASINO, not a Nightclub! A lot of the guests are Elderly! Luckily the Local Casino got rid of their loud, obnoxious, blaring Techno Music and put much softer songs like Adele instead, a Happy Medium every age group can agree too.

Take comfort in the fact that no one is actually backing up his wishes to have you permanantly banned.

Smart is knowing a Tomato is a fruit.

Wise is knowing a Tomato doesn't belong in a fruit salad.

I am glad to get my full posting rights back! Thank you Dan!

I don't like the fact that casinos, local or otherwise, are allowed to kick out law abiding players.

I had a problem with that for a long time. But the reality is there are two models out there. The New Jersey model where they can't and the Nevada model where they can, and most other jurisdictions have followed. There used to be somewhere else like Missouri that had the New Jersey model.

So of the two models, one just makes games practically unplayable/unbeatable to protect themselves, while the other players are forced to play a 'cat and mouse' game and learn what is and isn't tolerated. I will take the Nevada model any day, and frankly, I have thrived with it, learning exactly what is tolerated in all kinds of different casinos and different times and days. It takes a little work, but isn't that what it is about? Those that don't learn what it takes, don't succeed.

That and not understanding variance is what makes it so everyone and their mother is not a card counter in this town. I would have said "everyone and their brother" as I think that is the real saying, but....my brother is.

And yes JBJB, I know you are not talking about card counting, but same principals apply.

You obviously don't 'get it'. And once again, your one dimensional card counting mentality shows.

And what would you do if every single blackjack game on earth disappeared right now?

Harsher than I would have put it, but I am persona non grata at Ocean Resort in Atlantic City. No laws broken. They took my slot tickets, too, and I couldn't make NJ Gaming force them to give them back...mostly because they (Gaming) just stop responding to your calls completely.

For us, being flat bet ar table games, but being allowed to play is much better than not being able to play at all.

And for the record, Nevada can do exactly the same thing to you as NJ, but they can do MORE STUFF NJ CANNOT!

Mission were you leaving your card in high limit slots again ?

Ha! The good old days. Gambling was somehow more fun the less I knew about it. Actually, I think it's just that I don't drink anymore. I can pretty accurately point to that for my personality shift.

Losing on positive EV plays was a lot more tolerable when you could just knock back half a fifth at earliest opportunity. It's not even the money. Doesn't matter the game. I just hate losing.

I hate when casinos tolerate panhandlers in their high limit rooms.

Nevada casinos usually don’t but at many out of state Indian casinos they let bums and panhandlers & tip hustlers run rampant in their high limit rooms.

I hate casinos that play ghetto music and attract a ghetto crowd.

I hate casinos that don’t staff their slot floors properly so if you are on a big play you can’t get anyone to hold your machine so you have to run to the bathroom fast during a bonus round. If you try to cash out and the ticket jams it takes more than 30 mins for anyone to come fix.

I hate when you take a picture of your jackpot and security comes over and says no photos, a legacy from 20-30 years+ plus ago but super dumb today when eceryone has a cell phone camera and likes to take a snap of their big jackpots as mementos and to post on social media.

I hate casinos that only go up to $1000 on the cash out kiosks (even in their high limit rooms) so you have to go to the cashier to cash out tickets over $1k and these same casinos always have a long wait at the cashier.

I hate casinos that have an express line at the cashier for top tier cards, but only one window so if you go in that line you end up waiting longer than in the regular line.

I hate casinos that have cash out kiosks that don’t dispense change.

I hate casinos that don’t have 24 hour players cards clubs so if you come at an off hour and your card doesn’t work you are f$&ked

I hate how at a lot of casinos when you are trying to snag a slot attendant or a cocktail waitress and you say “Excuse me, Excuse me” its almost like they are programmed to ignore you and they quickly walk away.

I hate casinos that let bums sleep in the chairs in front of slot machines

I hate casinos that tolerate thieves walking around and stealing peoples tickets

I hate casinos that when the machine malfunctions with your money in, that instead of just paying you out and letting you be on your way, they make you wait 30+ minutes for a tech to fix the machine.

I hate casinos with rude drop crews that don’t understand that its the players that are putting the money they are collecting into machines

I hate casinos that every time you visit to pick up your freeplay your players card is deactivated and u have to wait in line at the (hopefully open 24 hours) players club to reactivate it.

I hate when a casino has lousy pay back, lousy service and lousy freeplay all at the same time. (Most casinos often only have 1 or 2 of these at the same time)

HOF post agree with everything on that list.

    Agree.

What is sad is that us older guys actually remember when they treated us well in casinos. Long gone and never to return. That stuff never used to occur.

Sounds like a whole bunch of first world problems to me. Personally, I am thankful casinos even exist. I am grateful to all the idiots that enter the doors day after day.

    All Quotes are DGenBen:

I hate when casinos tolerate panhandlers in their high limit rooms.
That doesn't really bother me. Of course, I'm usually not in the high-limit room very long and might sometimes be mistaken for a panhandler. JK (Sort of)

Nevada casinos usually don’t but at many out of state Indian casinos they let bums and panhandlers & tip hustlers run rampant in their high limit rooms.
I haven't been to many Indian casinos. I've seen this happen in a few local casinos, except the tip hustlers. Just panhandlers here and there. They really shouldn't let anyone anywhere if all they are doing is asking passerby for money, but I don't mind so much letting them hang outside of the casino and doing that, depending on the property.

I hate casinos that play ghetto music and attract a ghetto crowd.
I'm not so sure about your causal chain on this one. I think it's more likely that a casino gets an idea of the demographics of its crowd and then adjusts the music accordingly. I also don't know what you mean by, "Ghetto Music," as R&B is more pop, now.

I hate casinos that don’t staff their slot floors properly so if you are on a big play you can’t get anyone to hold your machine so you have to run to the bathroom fast during a bonus round. If you try to cash out and the ticket jams it takes more than 30 mins for anyone to come fix.
Yes. I agree that sucks. I think it depends on shift more than anything.

I hate when you take a picture of your jackpot and security comes over and says no photos, a legacy from 20-30 years+ plus ago but super dumb today when everyone has a cell phone camera and likes to take a snap of their big jackpots as mementos and to post on social media.
I haven't had that problem, but I don't often take pictures. I'm more likely just to take pictures of UX vulturing results that I think are neat, regardless of how much the profit was. Even then, I'll usually only take pictures if someone has been sending me pictures recently. I definitely wouldn't POST them. People have a general idea where I am from and where I go, so I wouldn't want people to think the vulturing is better than it actually is and want to compete with me.

I hate casinos that only go up to $1000 on the cash out kiosks (even in their high limit rooms) so you have to go to the cashier to cash out tickets over $1k and these same casinos always have a long wait at the cashier.
That doesn't bother me. It's rare, in my case, and also means I did extremely well...so I can tip a few bucks.

I hate casinos that have an express line at the cashier for top tier cards, but only one window so if you go in that line you end up waiting longer than in the regular line.
I hate when they have a window for the express line that doesn't take people from the regular line when nobody is waiting in the express line.

I hate casinos that have cash out kiosks that don’t dispense change.
I like it. I just leave the coins there anyway.

I hate casinos that don’t have 24 hour players cards clubs so if you come at an off hour and your card doesn’t work you are f$&ked
That does suck. Can Tables do anything about it if they are open? Can they change PIN over there? I know they can print new cards, usually.

I hate how at a lot of casinos when you are trying to snag a slot attendant or a cocktail waitress and you say “Excuse me, Excuse me” its almost like they are programmed to ignore you and they quickly walk away.
Slot attendants, yes. Cocktail waitresses I usually just wait for them to come to me.

I hate casinos that let bums sleep in the chairs in front of slot machines
Yeah, I don't like that. Although, I do like it when casinos have some sort of common area with reasonably comfortable chairs where they will let drunk people catch a nap...or let them just crash in the food court without hassling them too much.

I hate casinos that tolerate thieves walking around and stealing peoples tickets
I haven't really had that problem, but I'm usually pretty good about protecting my tickets.

I hate casinos that when the machine malfunctions with your money in, that instead of just paying you out and letting you be on your way, they make you wait 30+ minutes for a tech to fix the machine.
Is there a reason for that, like, on their end?

I hate casinos with rude drop crews that don’t understand that its the players that are putting the money they are collecting into machines
It's annoying when they close off entire sections. It's not so bad if they just want to grab the box, but will let you stay near the machine.

I hate casinos that every time you visit to pick up your freeplay your players card is deactivated and u have to wait in line at the (hopefully open 24 hours) players club to reactivate it.
I've not really had this problem. Certainly not every time or anything close to it.

I hate when a casino has lousy pay back, lousy service and lousy freeplay all at the same time. (Most casinos often only have 1 or 2 of these at the same time)
    Doesn't everyone?

For sure first world problems. I just learned that term a few years ago which I think is a great term, and then found this video below:

“The low thread count on my sheets has got me itchin! My house is too big I can’t get WIFI in the kitchen!”

    - First world problems by Al Yankovic

Not sure how to do the quote in sections like you did but to answer your questions, yes often times when the players club is closed you can get a card printed from table games or the cashier, but I’ve also been to casinos that don’t have either of those options when the players club is closed.

As for why would a casino make you wait for the machine to be fixed by a tech first instead of just cashing you out? I asked why when this happened once, and it was because they had a rigid procedure to do any sort of payout to orevent paying something out wrong where their computers & machines etc. had to all reconcile. Thinking back on in, the couple times this happened it was for a large amount so i guess i can understand.

As for the ghetto music, good point it can be a chicken and egg kind of thing, but also i know of 2 casinos fairly close to each other where one plays gangster rap and the other plays country and western music / classic rock.

One pulls a younger crowd of people I don’t see gambling all that much, but see doing a lot of drinking, loud yelling, cussing, fighting etc.

The other pulls an older quieter crowd that appears more affluent & that seems to drink less and gamble more, and seems safer and a better environment to gamble.

Care to guess which pulls which?

Also, lest I be accused of being a racist, when I say ghetto crowd, I’m not referring to black people, but more the young nightclub crowd, all races just young people who want to drink and party & be loud and obnoxious. Nothing wrong with that, I did that too back in the day, but not necessarily the environment you would most like to play casino games in. (Or perhaps for some the perfect environment, so matter of taste I guess)

That's about what I figured it would be. I've only had this issue a few times where I had to be paid by hand on a non hand pay (W2G) scenario, but none because the machine was broken.

1.) Hits of $1,000, but less than $1,199.99 are paid by hand, but not taxed.

2.) The machine will lock up if the total in credits goes over $1,500. (Smallish Casino)

3.) The machine DID screw up and want me to be hand paid for a very small amount, then my ticket was printed and the machine was put out of service---but the game didn't stall while I was playing it, or anything.

As to the other stuff, are the people at the casino with the drinking paying for the alcohol? Overpriced drinks are profitable, too.

Thinking back on in, the couple times this happened it was for a large amount so i guess i can understand.

Yes, they are paying for alcohol (a non NV tribal) , and that thought crossed my mind too. However since it tends to be younger folks with less money many of them are getting liquored up in the parking lot or restroom with cheap store bought stuff and then just using the casino as a venue to party. (Have seen people doing this)

I guess the casino feels it works for them, I would just assume it would not be the most profitable marketing strategy if it were up to me.

I've played craps and slots for several decades, mostly in Pac NW and I've never run across any bums sleeping in slot chairs or loitering in the high limit room in these tribal joints.

In contrast, every trip to Las Vegas reintroduces me to these low lives and makes me glad it ain't "that way" in Oregon, at least in my experience.
