Thread: One small step for man, one giant leap for the Vegas strip

  1. #1
There are plans to build a giant hotel on the Vegas strip, across from the Wynn and just a bit south of Resorts World, to be a scale version of the moon.

It would be 735 feet high, which is about 2/3 the height of the Stratosphere (I refuse to call it "Strat") tower.

Aside from the hotel being shaped like a giant moon, another unique feature will be a "lunar colony", meant to imitate conditions one would see in an actual lunar colony on the surface of the moon.

To access the colony, which would be in the upper half of the sphere, guests would head to shuttle stations, to waiting moon shuttles. Designed like cars on a roller coaster ride, the shuttles, it's explained, will snake around the exterior of the hotel suites as they ferry guests upwards.

Once there, guests will spend 90 minutes exploring the 10-acre space, whizzing over craters in a 'moon buggy'. The colony promises to 'precisely mimic those lunar colonies now under serious active planning by Nasa, ESA and many others'. Tickets would cost $500 a pop.
Yeah, good luck finding a lot of people willing to spend $500 on this. They're gonna have to lower that price.

Reminds me a bit of Luna Park, a Disneyland on the actual moon, as featured in the second episode of Futurama in 1999:

Except tickets to Luna Park didn't cost $500, even in the year 3000.

Will this really happen? Probably not. In 2016, this exact concept was pitched to the city of Coachella, CA (not the exact site of the Coachella music festival, but close to it), and then never really got going.

Here's an article with more details: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/t...tel-rooms.html

Here's the official website for the project, with some renderings of the floorplan: https://www.moonworldresorts.com/

You're scooping kew on these stories.

Just like everything around LV, there'll be plenty of people who'll pay $500 for this type of experience. Circa charges $1400 for a bottle of Patron Reposado in their pool cabanas (which if you haven't yet seen, is out-of-this world unique) and they can't keep stock. So a simulated lunar landing for five hundred bucks seems like quite the deal.

I believe Wynn owns that property (former Frontier site). I can’t see them selling if someone is going to stick a moon in their face.

Isn't it the property between Trump Condo/Hotel and the strip, just north of Fashion Show Mall? Trump property sits back a block so it is the strip access part to that property no? If so, I thought Trump owned it only because there used to be a small building there (same color as the Trump building) that served as the condo sales office.

Rob why do you say such stupid things? I live in Las Vegas am an AP so I try to keep up with what is going on, especially as it relates to blackjack and gambling. Less so with new or proposed real estate/resort projects (other than what make the local news or Vital Vegas) because I see so many hit the news or rumor mill that never go anywhere.

But this is where I live and what I do for a living so I try to know what is going on. Why is that an issue for you. You claim to hate Vegas, yet it seems like jealousy raising it's ugly head when you talk like this.

The Moon project has been around for years under different dreamers.

Here is a list of crazy projects that never happened for multiple reasons. Max Bear from Beverly Hillbillies was always coming up with new plans every few years up til the day he died in both Vegas and the Reno area.

You are correct, still alive. I thought I read it a while back. Must have been him commenting with Donna Douglass (Elly Mae) it.

    I’m getting old.😀

Because I am home for a few days and bored, I looked up both Max Baer and Donna Douglas. She had a pretty good acting career both before and after Beverly Hillbillies, while Max Baers sort of dried up. I guess everybody just knew him as Jethro making it hard to get other roles. Another interesting thing was that Donna Douglas was 30 when Beverly Hillbillies began it's 9 year run, making her 39 at the end. Sure didn't look it.

You gotta admit, it looks pretty fucking cool. Would probably be as successful as High Roller though
