Major League Soccer come long ways since 1996-97

I am assuming they will be playing in Allegiant Stadium

MLS in the US will NEVER be anything more than a minor sport played mostly by little foreign guys in silly shorts. Yeah we dress it all up come World Cup time, and liberal ESPN tries its best to force the pansy game upon us. But virtually NO ONE really gives a rats ass about it here. Never has and never will. Even the collection of dikes on the US "girls" team who win a lot hasn't done squat as far as making this a true major sport here. And there's nothing more boring than watching an hour of a "nil-nil" game, and nothing more disappointing than sitting at a bar or in a restaurant, looking up to see a collection of these little foreign and minority twits running around in circles.

Rob nailed it. The heyday of the MLS was in the 70’s and early 80’s when Pele was huge and the Cosmos attracted huge crowds and ratings. As kids we were told soccer was going to bypass football and we were all going to be playing it. How did that work out?

It has its loyal fans still but as he said, it’s mostly foreigners. In Vegas, at least before they were afraid to leave their house because of Covid, they pack the books in the morning watching 2 Euro teams play.

As for ratings….” For the 2021 regular season, MLS said it averaged 276,000 viewers for 31 regular-season games across ESPN channels, including ABC. That's up from the average 233,000 viewers who consumed 39 MLS games in 2020 on ESPN platforms”

276,000 viewers? The NFL…..” The 2021 NFL regular season averaged 17.1 million viewers (TV and Digital) – the highest regular-season average since 2015 and up more than 10% from 2020.”

The MLS ranks right up there with the Johnsonville Cornhole Championship for ratings.

Boz, it was the NASL in the 70's up to the mid 80's rather than the MLS.

Still and all, most of the rest of the world embraces soccer as the number one game.

Soccer players are probably in the best overall physical condition of all major sports participants given the amount of cardio they must undergo during a game.
    What, Me Worry?

Aw gee, what's the matter, Monet?

Did some big bully blithely take your Captain America action figure from your adoring hands?

I'll take your word for it Monet, as I don't remember seeing it. I saw some outdoor Lacrosse but not enough to fairly judge its enjoyability.

It was HUGE in Philly for a time, the Wings and the Gait brothers used to sell out the Spectrum. And had big ratings on Prism. But like soccer, other than the loyal fans no one cared.

That said, a battle Royal involving Hogan and Andre drew 33 million on Saturday Night Main Event at one point.

And yes Tableplay, I was totally wrong calling the NASL the MSL. My bad.
