Thread: Vegas attorney runs massive ponzi scheme, points gun at FBI, gets shot

  1. #1
A weird Ponzi scheme was being investigated by the FBI, where people would buy "contracts" to purchase other people's slip-and-fall settlements. Not sure how the whole thing worked, but here's a very recent FBI page seeking info from victims: https://forms.fbi.gov/seeking-victim...investigation/

The scheme was described as one which bilked investors out of $300 million in California, Nevada, and Utah.

Matt Beasley, 49, was one of the attorneys suspected of being involved in the scheme. Apparently he knew the FBI was onto him, and was ready when they visited him.

He answered the door with a gun to his own head.

A Las Vegas attorney made his initial appearance in federal court today for allegedly assaulting three FBI Special Agents with a firearm when they attempted to interview him at his home.

Matthew Wade Beasley (49) was arrested on March 4, 2022. He is charged with one count of assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon. U.S. Magistrate Judge Elayna J. Youchah scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 22, 2022.

According to allegations in the criminal complaint, on March 3, 2022, FBI Special Agents went to a house in northwest Las Vegas to interview Beasley as part of an ongoing investigation. When agents knocked on the glass front doors, Beasley appeared with part of his body obscured. After an agent pulled back his suit jacket to show his FBI badge, Beasley then stepped into complete view with a gun pointed at his own head. When agents instructed Beasley to drop the gun, Beasley instead pointed it at the agents in a sweeping motion — causing one or more agents to discharge their firearm and striking Beasley.

At the moment, Beasley has not yet been charged with anything related to the Ponzi -- only regarding assault on a federal officer.

It's not clear if he was really trying to shoot the agents, or if he just brought the gun away from his head in a careless motion to appear that way, or if he was trying to commit suicide by cop. The latter is most likely, as he refused to go to the hospital for 4 hours, and stated that he wished the agents had killed him.

Here's a full article about it in the LVRJ: https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/...cheme-2541707/

It's also not clear at the moment who the other suspects are. The LVRJ says he confessed to orchestrating the scheme, after being arrested.

    Here is his Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-beasley-02a3b942

He wanetd home confinement, but this was denied in part because he had pointed a gun at both himself and officers.
