Half Smoke, you really should expand your reading. Like maybe the "Big Casino Wins" thread and the "Sports and Sports Betting" section of this site.

I understand your hesitancy to do so -- you'd have to scroll and hit a couple buttons; probably slower than your exhaustive googling.

Wait, I'll see if I can help you out.

Here we go: Posts 3764 through 3768 of the "Big Casino Wins" thread, continuing into Posts 507 to 509 in the "Sports and Sports Betting" section in the "Smart Money" thread.

I know, too much scrolling. You gotta train for this stuff. Googling by itself won't provide the proper training in research techniques. Work those fingers, baby. Do some eye exercises!

You youngsters -- I bet jogging around the block is out of the question, too, eh?

Oh yeah, discussion continued in 527-529 of the "Smart Money" thread, also. Anything to save you some "research," Half Smoke.

Half Smoke, I love you. You just gave me an excuse to dig up an old bio from "Who's Who in Sports Gambling" and post it here. Many thanks. People would think I was self-promoting if I just posted it with no provocation.

By the way, if you want some third-party reports of my handicapping records, you can look some up in the "Retro Road Trip" thread where mickey helped me post some pages from old McCusker Reports. If you want some recent results, I can point you to some folks who can verify what I've done. But you'd have to call them and give them your actual name. Let me know if you have any interest.

These aren't people from around the block or my cousins -- LOL. I'll provide a former CFO of a pharma firm, a former Boeing VP, and Mark Lawrence as starting points. PM me your name, and I'll get you on your way to doing actual research!

    You can thank me later!

RED I wanted to view your site but I don’t have Netscape Navigator on my IPad.

Just kidding, you know where I stand in regards to your credibility of your long history in the business.

As for the Derby….80-1? You and I know that happened once or twice a week at Penn National in the early to mid 80’s.

I know nothing about horses, but even I was flabbergasted. Not so much that the horse won, but that both the horse and the jockey came in unprepared. Unbelievable. Karen went on a long, wondrous rant this morning. The jockey had ridden in some cheap race Friday? Unreal.

Here's the scary thing -- the horse was 80-1 and was unprepared. Well, the logical conclusion is that it might be better than that if prepped. So that might make the remaining Triple Crown races unbettable because you can't bet ON this horse and you can't bet AGAINST it.

Nobody saw that coming. One of the offshores had a free contest. You have to pick the winner for one segment with its own prize pool. And you had to pick the last place horse for a piece of the other prize pool. If you got both right, you got a piece of a bigger pool. But you had to split whichever pool with all of the people who got it right. I'm waiting to see how many people accidentally screwed up their entry and put the horse they thought would be last as first. Because with a couple thousand people, you know somebody botched their entry...and that person probably won!

Watch the race again on youtube. Rich Strike was blocked by another horse halfway down the homestretch. He had to move out to the right to go around the horse then blast into first place. Unbelievable.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Karen said it was a great, great ride. All he kept saying was, "I know my horse."

I regularly play the Ohio circuit. There is nothing that could have made me pick that horse. The Ohio circuit is pretty much as bad as it gets. The jockey is good in Ohio, but he is in Ohio for a reason. The trainer used to race here in Illinois and I know him through a mutual friend. He was decent at low levels but had other “interests” than racing. He used to have a lot more horses years ago.

I don’t think that horse will ever win another race—-triple crown or anything else.

There is a striking resemblance to the 1986 Kentucky Derby win by Ferdinand and Willie Shoemaker, weaving through horse to have the rail open up at the end.

Regnis, is it correct that the trainer who scratched and opened up that spot is friends with the owner of the winner?

100% correct. The horse was available for $30k in September and no one bit.

The right move is to walk away and take the stud money.

That said I wonder at what point do the stud fees go down on these KD winners with no pedigree?

Either way it’s the right move, but they may be gamblers.

    WWSD?

That I do not know. But it seems unlikely as they travel in different circles. Trainer of the scratched horse is d. Wayne Lucas. His horse won the oaks on Friday. Lucas is 86 years old and 40 years ago was big like baffert and chad brown. He has made a mini comeback the last few years.
So it is possible they are friends, but after all these years everyone is his friend.
I had the pleasure to meet him a few years ago. Just say hello and he will tell you stories for hours. I could have sat there all night listening to him. The kind of personality I was not born with.

That is really cool. I didn't realize D. Wayne Lucas was 86. I would have been off by 10 years.

    _____________

in the Derby, the Superfecta paid $321,500 for a $1.00 bet________________not a bad day at the track

Jim "Mattress Mac" Mcingvale, a furniture store mogul, bet and lost $1.5 million on Epicenter - the bet was late causing the odds to drop on Epicenter to 4/1

last year he bet and lost $1.3 million on Essential Quality

at least this year he got a thrill___________Essential Quality was never a threat

and Regnis______________here is a somewhat thorough explanation of Monmouth's fixed odds betting from the Daily Racing Form

a player cannot cancel a bet after it's made____________just as a sports bet cannot be cancelled to get a better line

Yeah, that's a real Hall of Fame. You better make a few calls.

Boz, any comments on some of the folks listed? I know you're a fan of Feisty (yes, Sheldon, that was sarcasm).

Half Smoke, why do you feel it necessary to inject your opinions regarding things you know nothing about?

I don't think I'm making any Halls of Fame. In general, I don't handicap hoops, baseball, or hockey.

You realize I've been in "Tipsters or Gypsters?" and The Handicappers' Report Card and The Wise Guys Contest (invitation only) going back almost 40 years? The Wise Guys is invitation only. The only person on your leader board in The Wise Guys is Jim Feist. And he should be -- he is partners in the company that hosts The Wise Guys. Here's a link.

the link that your so proud of means nothing at all - 120 picks - short run - any Bozo the Clown could get lucky for 120 games -
