Thread: Markers in LV

  1. #1
I've been on a crazy downswing and am paper cash broke. I want to take very low 5 figures to LV.. Well I don't want to TAKE it, I would like to just acquire it at the casino.

So I can either wire it.
Or I can get a marker.

Anyone familiar with what the typical process is for the marker? How closely is it monitored what I do with the chips. (I buy in at a poker table.. ) Do they become annoyed? I have 0 intention of not paying it off and would never take more than I can easily pay back.

How about wiring? Say a nice upscale resort in LV. Do I just go to the main cage where you do the chip/tito transactions? Is it typically handled elsewhere? I guess they give me receiving info then when they receive it they give me either chips or a TITO?

My other alternative is to carry around a lot of cash but TBH I don't particularly want to do that although it wouldn't be a biig deal. Or visit my bank in LV but I'd rather figure out this marker deal as it seems like it'd be mightly convienent.

If I pay it back will it be flagged against future usage because I never put the chips in play with my card at a table game?

Your post is a bit confusing AiQ, because you start off saying you are paper cash broke. But you have money in the bank that you could either wire to a casino or just go withdraw the cash you need. So why not do that?

I have no idea what you do as far as casino play. Are you comfortable with the casinos having all that financial information on you? If so then a marker is just about convenience of not carrying cash. But you have never needed (or wanted) that before, so why now? I can only speak for myself, as a lower mid limit player, I want the casino to have as little info as possible on me.

Might be a better question to ask on an actual gambling forum? Or maybe Monet knows since he’s about the only one posting real world gambling information.

Well I said I'd play poker. If you have never taken a marker out or know little about the process then that is fine.

I don't care to go to the bank and get 10k then have 10k to deal with. Yes, I can do that. Yes, it isn't a big deal to get 10k probably although sometimes it won't be available.

What if I want 30k? I don't know if casinos have an internal credit system built on repays? etc. Is it a standard credit score check? Can I login to my bank account? Someone told me he believes they want to see tax returns?

Not too worried as there are branches in LV .. but still.

And since I am just playing poker it doesn't matter if they know who I am. I might walk around looking for machine plays but probably not.

    I'm confused by conflicting statements.

You are "paper cash broke," whatever that is, yet are able to wire funds from your bank account.

If you want "paper cash" then simply withdraw it from your account.

Surely you understand that when requesting a casino give you a marker you must first have filled out paperwork which inter alia gives them identifying info about you and also verification you have funds on deposit at least equal to the amount of the requested marker?
    What, Me Worry?

Paper cash. What else do you call it? Literal paper?!?! How is this confusing? I went on a crazy downswing and have depleted my roll of PAPER MONEY which means I need to re-up from a bank but don't feel like getting 10k then carrying it through airport etc.

OK MCAP is right I need to be on an actual gambling site..

I'm not sure what happens when you cash a bunch of chips out but I assume they CTR/KYC you which means they know who you are anyway.

He wants the cash without having extra cash left over if he wins, which he hopes/expects to do. After he wins this way after re-paying the money he’s only got the winnings in cash to deal with rather than winnings+10k.

You’re not the sharpest lawyer ever, are ya? Maybe put down the bowl, V…

Yes and with a marker/line of credit I only have to screw with the wire if I lose.

I guess I get a wire back with a wire? Cashier's check? I really am not sure. I've been a cash only guy for big parts of my life - especially those parts of my life where I am gambling semi-significant sums.

Paper? Is that like papier-mâché? You some kind of artist or something?

Whatever, the initial post was confusing.

OP asked "Anyone familiar with what the typical process is for the marker?" and I responded.

I've had markers before and reported on my experience.

Casinos approve credit lines based on the average balance maintained over the previous 6 months in your checking account.

When you get a line of credit you are basically post dating a check made payable to the casino.

Just call whatever casino you want the line established in and ask to speak with the credit department.

Once you have an established line at one you can then get the same at most others.

Jesus have mercy thank you. I could have googled this and asked around more but I figured lets have a thread related to Vegas.

This is what I'd heard before but a sharp friend of mine said he thought they required tax returns.

My hope is I login to my bank account in some office and they verify it all then say "ok you are approved for up to $xx,xxx" and that's half of whatever is required.

By "high road" you must mean smoke another bowl and chill.

    Good.

There is no figurative high road on this site.

There is only one way to win that is to not play.

You give them permission to make an inquiry to your bank. It takes awhile for them to get it done the first time. Or at least it used to.

I have limited experience. My lines of credit were setup to write checks. I never took a chip marker. But could have.

Tax returns were never asked for. Casino credit is not like commercial credit. They only care about your provable liquidity and require some history of it.

It is also why if you don't pay you are charged with check fraud. There's a whole division down at the prosecutor's office for it.

I'm not much use here. The only thing I've done along these lines was open lines of credit for check cashing privileges. Since cashing checks on weekends and Sunday mornings is a bit of an act of faith on their part, they did review something like my prior six-month checking account history. But I've never done markers per se. I don't run into the whole reporting issues or transportation issues. If I don't want to lug cash through airports (and I don't have a problem with that), I just don't cash winning tickets. If for some reason I'm paranoid about lugging cash, I make copies of the tickets and send the copies home, then I travel with the tickets instead of cash. I can always cash them later via mail. And I just realized I need to explain that the "tickets" I'm talking about are sports tickets, not vouchers.

As indicated above, you will contact the casino and get a credit application. Fill it out; indicate how much credit you desire; they review it; they approve at a certain level or deny. Never give them too much asset info--just enough to justify the credit requested. At some casinos part of the app included an authorization for them to get income tax info. Depending upon your asset info, they probably won't do so.

I have 30 days to pay---you won't get that until you have an established history. You will probably have to pay when you leave. If you have privacy concerns, don't fill out the app at all and find another way. It does provide much too much info and the ability to get more info.

When you take the marker, unless it is at the cage, you will be expected to gamble at that table or pit. You can't walk up to a craps table, take a marker, and then walk away. Many people are against markers, but I have used them for 30 years. Much more convenient for me and I won't use ATM's. At one time I did open a bank account in Las Vegas, but that was really too inconvenient as well. Are there any bank branches walking distance from the strip now?? Never paid any attention. It was good for cash deposits before heading back home, however.
