This is a show recommendation for Todd and Alan.

No, I'm not kidding. It's a show at the Tuscany. I probably don't have time to catch it this time, but it's on my to-do list for the next visit.

I like staying at the Tuscany. As a bonus, Tuscany has a Circa satellite book which, as monet will tell you, generally features some of the best odds and futures in Las Vegas. The Tuscany has really been spiffed up.

Unfortunately, if someone asks how smoky it is, well, as I walked in the front door, a firetruck and ambulance also pulled up. Also not kidding. Evidently one of the main building elevators was spewing smoke -- never a good sign.

Tried to send you a message but you are full again.

Find some value and if you get time, check out the Front Yard at Ellis, overpriced compared to the cafe, but a better selection of beers. And not a bad place to watch a game, definitely less smoke than inside.

Thanks, Boz. I was debating whether to head to Ellis tomorrow. I will do so. A guy I met out here a couple of years ago, a video poker player, also recommended the Front Yard. I'll get my butt over there. I haven't had the Ellis steak in four or five years. It was one of my staples back in the day.

I have been surprised by some of the truncated restaurant hours. People I've talked to said it's mostly a lack of workers, not a lack of patrons. The Orleans actually had no room service after 3 PM. Yowza.

Welcome to the utopia you liberals wanted. $15,$20 an hour, whatever a minimum has consequences.

Has nothing to do with the discussion that we both understand makes the money. I’m still not sure why you traveled to Vegas like it is 1985 but I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. That said, the USFL was a huge money making opportunity in 85. I bet the maximum $5000 on the Bandits laying 14.5 against Lee Corso’s Orlando team in the opener. Good times.

Fuck that, different time, and I’m on a Monet tangent.

    Enjoy!

I thought traffic would be heavier and as a result I arrived at the Jew Man Group show early. So I unwound by playing in the arcade they had setup backstage until the show began. The first game I played was Bomb The Axis Rats (https://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=3641) and then after that I played some Kill The Jap (https://www.arcade-museum.com/game_d...p?game_id=3286). I wound things up with a couple games on Black Fever (https://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=3645):

If you meant "Why am I physically here as if it were necessary?" -- for futures, it's necessary. It's necessary in a number of ways. The question isn't whether it's necessary, but whether spending a thousand or two on travel is worth the advantages. Sometimes it is; sometimes it isn't. Besides, I had to catch up on the contest situation, and to get proper answers, you pretty much need to ask the right people the right questions face to face, including subtleties that nobody is going to tell you over the phone. For example, the fact that the old Barbary contest had one guy coordinating 1100 entries...and he was the second biggest cartel. That stuff has to be figured out in person.

There was a college contest last year -- eight games ATS per week. Big overlay because they waited so long to launch. Almost a 500K overlay. Just one fly in the ointment. Five entries per person at 1K each. That's not a deal breaker, but my philosophy is if you're not the biggest bastard in the contest, don't enter the contest if it costs serious money. And you know with a five entry per person setup, folks are out there coordinating at least 40 entries. So was I interested in launching 40K at something like that, paying a proxy to put them in, and dealing with a covid year on top of it? No, I was not.

This year, they cut the prize money in half so there's not going to be an overlay. These decisions have to be made in person trying to get a feel for what's going on between the lines.

More importantly, I get an Ellis Island steak and french toast at the Orleans cafe out of it. And I saw a Phocomelia busker at 7 AM today on Fremont. His act was that he lit a cigarette. Not an easy task. Cringeworthy, but if he's up for it at 7 AM and making a living, more power to him.
