Wonderful time of year in Vegas

My mom and I walked the strip today from Fashion Show Mall, down to NYNY, stopping for lunch along the way. No gambling, just taking in the sights and people. It really is a wonderful time of year in Vegas. A little cooler than it should be temperature wise, but the two week period after the rodeo (NRF) leaves until about Dec 23 is the slowest and quietest time of year in Vegas. It is just nice not to have crowds everywhere and be able to move about some.

The rodeo is in town for 10 days covering the first two weekend of December. This year because Dec 1 fell on a Thursday the who rodeo thing wrapped up on the 10th, providing for almost 2 full weeks before Vegas starts to fill up again towards Christmas. This two week period used to be one of my favorite and better periods for blackjack play for me, but I am now playing a little differently that I used to actually seeking out busier times, so this period really no longer works for me. But I really enjoyed the less crowded conditions today.

Probably because they know most people are home with families. Then on Christmas Day, Californians start arriving in the afternoon with pockets full of Xmas cash. The following days plane loads from the east coast and Midwest start hitting town and it stays busy right through NYE and New Years day.

And immediately after New Years, convention season starts, with the consumer electronic show (CES) immediately after New Years. Have you ever looked at the room rates for that week. They shoot up 10 fold, no kidding.

Do your local places start picking up Xmas day and week?
