Thread: How much money did you save during the Casino/Covid Shutdowns?

  1. #1
In a conversation about how tight the Casino Slots have gotten recently, someone told me she saved $1,000 when the Casinos shut down during Covid Shutdowns. I don't remember how much I saved during the Casino/Covid Shutdowns. I was still playing Lottery, so I was still doing some sort of gambling. How about you? How much did you save during the Casino/Covid Shutdowns?

I actually switched to Geico during covid and saved a ton.

    FYI...Lockdowns are great.

Anybody who saved money while the casinos were closed is most definitely a ploppy/recreational player.

Pretty sure majority of people who saved money during the shut down never went to casinos in the first place.

Anthony Curtis had some recent comments on the effect of the lockdown on Vegas. He said when things opened back up the casinos were flooded with people who had not only gotten the covid money but had saved a lot of money because they were still working but couldn't go out during the lockdown.

And I imagine you can throw in the people that legally refused to pay rent. So some people worked or drew unemployment thru the lockdown, also got covid money, and had free rent.

So all the Vegas visitors were loaded per Anthony Curtis. And Curtis said the casinos had no need to put on promotions and didn't. So the gamblers actually got fucked by Vegas when the lockdown ended, according to Curtis. But he also said people will soon start running out of money.

PS: Geico is the nuts for car insurance.

Some People had the opposite reaction. At least one person said Shutdowns forced him to realize he was losing a LOT of money at Casinos and he had saved like 10 times the amount he would have had had Shutdowns never happened, so he was in no rush to get back to Casinos, said Casino Shutdowns were a real eye opener to how much he was really losing in Casinos.

I wasn't joking, I was paying double with AAA, and got less. I started looking for different insurance because AAA was trying to raise my rates significantly.

I know a few people whose lifestyle changed significantly overnight because they were able to make out like bandits due to covid money, savings, no rent, and whatever BS. People were getting nice business loans etc. I'll see exactly how they are doing in a few years, I have a feeling it won't be looking good.

I had geico and it went up too much. Switched to progressive and had a considerably better deal but there were also a lot of small upcharges once I signed up but it still beat geico. Geico was great before this..

Geico charges me half of what Progressive did. Progressive kept raising my rates every six months or I wouldn't have went shopping.

Casino executives were referring to these as "unrated players" when LV reopened.

I don't know anyone who got millions or even hundreds of thousands. I'm talking many 10's of thousands, + no rent, forgivable loans, etc. I don't know all the details, I just know that one month they are broke and can't even pay their rent, and the next thing you know they are buying new iPhones, laptops, cars, and buying a house. Obviously that's not the average situation, that's people who figured out how to game the system.

    Yep, this is spot on.

The largest source of money was from Unemployment. People in the know absolutely “cleaned up” with the additional $600 the Federal Government paid on top of your states regular unemployment. People didn’t even have to show proof of working. Some states were looser than others. In my state nearly 100% of the people who applied got approved. It was a simple as saying “I was working for this guy for cash and due to covid, he no longer has work for me”. This definitely meets the minimum requirement to draw unemployment under the Cares act. In my state the max was $400 per week, plus $600 from the feds equaled $1,000 per week/4k per month.

So what do you think happened? The word quickly got around this is free legal money. Every homeless person under the sun was collecting. I believe it started in April 2020, in my state they would even back pay you. A homeless, drug addicted person could have applied in September 2020 and they would pay you 6 months “back pay” from March/April. Boom 24k in their pocket - just like that.

I know of a homeless encampment that was located in a somewhat abandoned shopping center, a couple hundred people with tents. Well guess what happened near the end of 2020? Yup, you guessed it - it became a trailer park. All these people went out and bought RV’s/trailers/campers and set up shop lol. The other half that didn’t do this went across the street to the Motel 6, that went from $89 nite to $150 EVERNIGHT. Outright extorted them. There needs to be made a documentary about this.

These same type of people went straight to the casino, Many of them degenerates blowing $20-30k in ONE NIGHT.

The people that made a killing were the ones that went to the homeless encampment and told these people they could get them an instant 20k-30k if they break them off 20% when they got the cash. This was before word got around that this was legal/possible.

Don’t even get me started on PPP fraud. The federal government is currently investigating 100,000 cases of PPP fraud. Most cases actually getting charged have defrauded at least 100k. The few cases that have been charged where there was under $100k in intended/actual loss, most got probation. Lesson? Crime pays LOL

What’s crazy is there were people that outright made up every detail on their PPP application, things like 50 people on the pay roll, fake bank statements, ect. There was no business - they were doing it out of the room of there house. They work at Walmart and now have $1.5 Million to their name. This case gets ONLY 7 years in Federal Prison. The guy who actually does have the business with 50 employees, he just “fudges the numbers” a bit to qualify for $1.5 Million gets 5 years in Federal Prison. What is wrong with our system? The guy that outright made everything up from his basement should get at least double if not 3x the time vs. he guy that fudged the numbers to qualify. One amazing twist to this case is that the guy didn’t spend any of the money- he invested it all. When the government seized it, they got substantially more than the $1.5 Million lol.

So how do I know this? I owned a business that used day labor. Guess what period there was no day laborers available? You guessed it - April 2020 to November 2021, the exact same period there was free unemployment.

This was possibly the largest fraud in American History Folks.

You described two people committing the exact same crime, just with different methodologies. Equal amount of fraud (applied for same amount of fraudulent loan.) An extra 40% for the same $ amount of fraud and same law broken seems somewhere between appropriate and harsh given those facts.

“At least 2-3x,” the difference between 2x and 3x is more substantial than the difference between 5 and 7 on a % basis, you’r saying you have no idea what you think the appropriate difference should be, you’re just personally salty there wasn’t day labor available so want the guy who’s been in the lower socioeconomic position when the fraud was committed to be punished more harshly so those laborers don’t get anymore ideas.

You obviously don’t seem to understand the Justice System in the United States very well.

You said, “You described two people committing the exact same crime, just with different methodologies.” The manner as well as intent of a crime is very important in sentencing.

Let’s say 3 different women kill there husbands by stabbing them with a knife.
First woman planned every aspect of the stabbing for months. (1st Degree)
Second woman picked up a knife and stabbed him while she as making dinner because he said something she didn’t like (2nd Degree)
Third woman stabs her husband to death while he was banging another women in their bed (Possibly manslaughter. Even a legal Defense in Texas)

Let me guess, The prosecutor will say “3 dead husbands - 30 years for each wife” No, “Methodology” is very important. I’m using “methodologies” since that is the word you used. There is a legal word that fits better, but I don’t feel like looking it up at the moment.

Do you think because there was different methodologies used, they should still get similar sentences? That’s not what the court will say. They should and will be drastically different.

For the record, “methodologies” in how a crime was commuted is very important. A guy with 50 employees who fudges the numbers and says he has a $5.7 Million dollar yearly payroll when he actually has a $5.2 Million dollar payroll is drastically different than someone with NO employees, making fraudulent entries for every aspect of the loan.

Your right, I don’t know what the appropriate difference should be in the sentence, but definitely not only 2 years.

A major thing courts look at is “Intent”. What I was their intent and state of mind. Taking money to spend on Hookers, Sports cars, and Blow is substantially different than a business owner stretching the truth a bit to try and save his business. Both fraud. Both Felonies. Both should be sentenced differently.

No, I am not “Salty” about not finding day labors. Successful people adjust to the environment. I adjusted. Instead of paying day laborers $120 per day. I paid a “temp labor company” about $230/day per employee. Problem solved. I figured it out. I made it work. More importantly, this is why I am successful. I don’t sit back and cry, I find a solution.

I would maintain a 40% difference is substantial and takes into account the differences.

It’s impressive it surpassed the Newell and Double up story for biggest fraud tho.
