Thread: Oakland A's purchase land

  1. #1
What the hell!! I thought they had a a site all picked out down at Blue Diamond and LVB (near Silverton). This is a little too close for my comfort. Should have known there was a reason there is that major construction work currently occurring at Trop and the I-15. Going to need more lanes for even more cars.

3 years ago, the Security at an Oakland A's Baseball Game broke my arm, for no reason but I decided not to sue.

That incident was common knowledge among the MLB rhubarb community.

I phoned Charlie O and asked him to send me the video, and he did within the week.

The guard's actions seemed justified, but you should have pursued an out-of-court settlement anyway.

    No doubt you deserved it.

Even if you didn't, Karma bit you.

    Change your ways.

I can see there is no interest in the A's or stadium discussion, only some trolling comments. That's ok I guess.

The more I think about it the less I like the idea of the A's or the location of the stadium.

NFL suspends 5 players, including Lions 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams, for gambling violations

Below, in italics, is what the NFL said in a statement... not a press release.
tableplay and I just watched this movie, I swear!

The NFL claimed it found "no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way" after performing an investigation.

The Beatles’ ‘Help’ Is Just Plain Racist

    lol lol lol

    - The Beatles’ Help! is racist against Eastern culture and bigoted against Hinduism.
    - The film depicts Hindu worshipers of Kali as bloodthirsty and has white actors playing Eastern characters.

    lol lol lol

I haven't watched this film in over 20 years but I remember it being funny and this article makes me want to watch it again.

With the Raiders in Vegas now, whatever went down with the Lions and Redskins (I guess we're supposed to call them the Commanders now) is child's play as you know.

While I was out of town for a few weeks, I see the A's have already reneged on this "binding agreement", found a new strip location where Tropicana Casinos currently sits and entered into a second binding agreement.

First thought is that I must not understand the term "binding agreement".

Second thought: Halleluiah!! The first location (wild wild west casino location), was a little too close to home for me and would create more traffic nightmares for an already over-crowded intersection / interstate exit.

I have no idea what a 35,000 seat stadium at Tripicana and the strip will due to strip traffic. Just more of the same I suspect. But at least less my problem, by half a mile.

It remains to be seen whether LV can put enough fans in the ball park seats day in and day out.

Is sin city a baseball town?

    Good question MrV.

I always figured an NFL team would do reasonably well in Las Vegas as there are only 8 (possibly 9) home games. And many teams, like Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Chicago, Green Bay, Dallas, New England among others have fan bases that travel well. When I lived in Phila, the group of guys I hung out with always went to at least one distant away game (meaning NOT nearby New York or Washington). It was usually a place like New Orleans, or Chicago, or Los Angeles. So I always figured in addition to the Raiders fans there would be an abnormally high number of away team fans at the Las Vegas games. THAT would be the "destination" game for many.

And a couple years ago, when I attended a Raiders game vs the Eagles, I saw that first hand. Half the stadium was Eagles green and when the Eagles scored, it felt almost like a home game.

Basketball, hockey with 40 home games and baseball with 80 home games I kind of figured would be more challenging. To my surprise the Golden Knights have done great. Every game is a sellout. They did catch a break in that they were good from day 1, going to the Stanley cup finals in their first year, so there wasn't that bad team hard to support thing that most expansion teams go through. In addition, being the first pro team in Vegas gave them THAT novelty.

But I wonder about baseball. 80 games is a lot of games for this area. What makes Vegas different than other areas is once you get 10-12 miles out (summerlin and Henderson, or the Aliante are up north), it just stops. Nothing but desert. the suburbs don't extend 50, 60, 100 miles like other places. Less to draw from.

BUT the A's currently are at the bottom in attendance averaging 8000 a game. And the minor league team, the Aviators (A's farm team) has been averaging that out in Summerlin, since the new stadium was built 3 years ago. And that is an outdoor, no roof stadium, with games played in the evening at 100 degrees. So with a stadium with a roof, I figure they can average 20, 000 or more regularly. UNLESS they really stink....like the A's do.

Nobody wants to hear all that shit. What's going on with the settlement for millions from South Point? Who's your lawyer? That guy from the Wizard's? Did you come to find a bunch of people online who went through the same thing? As I mention, when it comes up, I went through the same thing, over a couple of decades ago, but about having been very openly cheated a few times in quick succession. Some stories to tell about that one, too. Have to note that nobody just turned over any tapes. Corrupt cops, casinos, and judges. *Worst is the lawyers - you wouldn't want a local one rep'ing you. Regardless, they consented to judgment. Had zero choice, their ten lawyers trying to bluff about how the casino would "vigorously defend", and so on. I still think that you are 110% full of shit, but, I guess, time will tell about you ever showing anything to the contrary.

    P.S. Nobody "holding their breath".
Magic of music is to make any instrument sound great. What a forum of thus satisfaction, despite the clowns and other losers. I found the numeral, 78230, in nature, given that the time of my final-1 post was 7:08, and, its spot #304=(2^2+300)-->23. And, by the sizes of the little, images: 7.8KB, and, 4.8KB=(2^4X0.3)-->23; p<[1/(5X050X5)^2]. (300/4)=75; (16-0.3)=15.7-->1/57-->75. (296/53.333...)=5.55. (1200/16.3)-->[10X7+2+1].[6][196√91][9][183]; (1200X16.3)-->[1961-7+2]. (78^2 - 23^2)=5555. Ha!

I get my cast off tomorrow. Can't wait for that.

Other than that, not much happening. Very early stages. We sent our demands and have received back a first offer, and we are miles apart. The offer was for mid 5 figures and I will now accept nothing less than mid 6 figures. And that isn't about the money, I have decided I really need to make a stand. Casinos have every right to back off and ban players. Read them the trespass act on their way out the door if they want. They no longer have the right to illegally detain and arrest a player, on the basis of card counting or legal advantage play. And THAT is what occurred. Illegal arrest and detention, with bodily harm. I am going to do my part in making sure that is upheld. Even if it cost me some anonymity.

It is going to take a while for this to play out and I am prepared for that.

And by the way there is a "funny" (not really) story with this first settlement offer. I heard from an AP friend who doesn't even reside in Las Vegas about this first settlement offer last week a day before the offer was received. And it was almost the exact amount.

I know AP's are well connected and pass everything along between different groups, but this surprised me. I figure someone has someone on the inside at this particular location. I don't mean under-cover or anything, just has a friend or family member on the inside of this particular casino and word gets out very quickly....even before I got the offer. I am not sure how much I like my business being known in that detail. But it is, what it is.

Well, I'm just not hearing about all the shit that goes haywire. Another thing, the process servers in Barrie, near Orillia, where the regional OPP headquarters still is, refused to serve the #2 cop. (The #1 cop just happened to decide to retire near the end of their "investigation" of things.) So, I went there to serve him in person. The gaming cops here are an OPP division that has an office in each of the casinos. At least, they used to. Before the trial, the cop had a few words with me. Said some pretty crazy stuff ... tried to scare me.

I would like to hear more about your case. Anything you want or are willing or able to share. Just out of curiosity's sake.

But it sounds like you are talking about an accusation of cheating and THAT is a very different animal. That is when you might have the commissions and cops covering and not being co-operative to say the least.

This is a casino abuse case. It is not a personal injury case like a personal injury attorney on another forum is speculating, even though there was an injury. This will be about a casino deciding to illegally detain and arrest a patron who has done nothing illegal, nor broken any laws. This will be a case with a lot of precedence. It has all been litigated before. If it was just a personal injury case, we probably could come to some kind of settlement somewhat above the first offer. But I am asking for extensive punitive damages. For anyone not a lawyer, as I am not, that means "extra" damages meant as punishment because the party knew or should have known that what they did was completely illegal.

There is also a second case against a former employee that no longer is employed by this casinos. That is probably more along the lines of a traditional personal injury case. I am less optimistic about that case, simply because as the saying goes, "you can't get blood from a rock". But we will see.

Anyway, on my end, there is really nothing to report. When there is....maybe I will report something.

But I would still like to hear anything you want to share about your case. Sounds of interest to an AP. Maybe others already know about it. I don't.

Oh yeah, it's the Crazy Canuck.

Much like the daft uncle kept locked in the attic, he appears periodically to spout inane things understood only by himself, then fades away, albeit briefly.

Kind of like the Engergizer Bunny with his batteries run low.
