Thread: New VP Game: "Fortune X"

Not sure if this has been discussed here....

So I saw this new game "Fortune X" premiered on some VP players channels. Ugh does it look brutal...

    The breakdown:

It is a multi line game: 3, 5, or 10 play

    Coin-in is 5+5 per line

Feature is a Multiple that is randomly awarded (like Super Times Pay), but it comes as "offers"

When randomly triggered you are first offered 2x and you have the option to apply the 2x after you see the "deal" or play on with no multiplier and have an option to select 3x on the next deal. If you don't like the cards on the 3x deal, you have an option to play off with no multiplier applied and get 5x on the next deal. If you don't like what you are dealt on the 5x deal you can with no multiplier applied and get 8x option for the next deal. If you don't like what you are dealt on the 8x deal, you can play on with no multiplier and get 12x on the next deal. Once you hit 12x you are forced to play with a 12x multiple regardless of the deal.

I haven't actually played the game but is seems like it is VERY expensive with the 5+5 bet on every line to "randomly" trigger the feature and not only that, once you do trigger the feature, you are still paying the 5+5 on every line.

Wizard of Odds has a breakdown of this game showing a 99.01% return but I can't in any way imagine anyone ever realizing a fraction of that.

From what I'm seeing of this game, I wouldn't touch it. If it were 5+1 like Super Times Pay it would be slightly appealing... As it is, it is a hard pass from me.

    Interesting.

This game seems to run on 9-6 double double bonus, which is normally a 98.98% game. This returns 99.01%, so as far as overall return goes, it's about neutral.

But yes, this induces a shit ton of extra variance.

According to Wizard of Odds, this multiplier hits 11% of the time. What is the game's return on the other 89% of hands which don't get a multiplier? 31.4.%. That's right -- 31 fucking percent. Ouch.

So you're absolutely going to get beat down on the hands with no multiplier, and it basically becomes a combination of a luckfest to get multipliers more than the 11% average, combined with getting to high multipliers and being dealt a good hand, combined with making correct decisions regarding when to accept or reject the multipliers.

Here's what Shackleford wrote about accepting multipliers:

I show the player should be indifferent to accepting a multiplier at the following expected values on the deal, based on 9-6 Double Double Bonus. These expected values are based on a single-coin bet (for example the EV of a dealt royal flush is 800). If the actual expected value is higher, accept the multiplier, if lower, decline it.

    2X multiplier: Indifferent EV = 8.901087
    3X multiplier: Indifferent EV = 4.889740
    5X multiplier: Indifferent EV = 2.567263
    8X multiplier: Indifferent EV = 1.411099
This can be a pain in the ass to calculate sometimes, because you're figuring out your EV after the deal. As far as dealt pat hands, here is the minimum you need to accept each of these multipliers:

    2x: Full house or better
    4x: Flush or better
    5x: 3-of-a-kind or better
    8x: 3-of-a-kind or better

However, you also need to compute your EV for non-made hands. You really only need to be concerned with this for big hands which need 1 card to hit.

    4-to-a-royal's EV is 18.

    4-to-a-straight-flush EV is 3.53.

Dealt three of a kind is a bit more complicated because of the different pays for hitting quads, and quads with kicker. So that means anything A-4 trips is definitely worth keeping for 3x multiplier, and 5-K is probably marginal. I haven't figured out the exact EV.

Anyway this game has a ton of variance, so you should play much lower than you are accustomed to, or otherwise you might lose a lot of money really fast.

At video poker dot com, the demo play is paywalled except for contests, but the game is openly available from the G2E sales page:

    https://www.videopoker.com/g2e2022/

Click in the lower left to select FORTUNE X.

13 different game themes are available. The ones with relatively big jackpot potential have lower frequencies on the feature activation. Which do you think would be the lowest?

TDB and TTB are both 10.53%. But 2-pair joker is only 10.20. Big jackpot for 5-of-a-kind.

JOB is highest at 11.65, then BP at 11.60.

Speaking of new and VP. Not worthy of a new thread but oh this is precious.

Wonder if someone with epilepsy could get a pay out. Awful.

    Thanks for this.

I played it for awhile. Not very fun with no money at stake, but I got a feel for it.

Was kinda frustrating when I was getting these multipliers and couldn't get a dealt hand better than 1 pair.

Finally I got 2 pair dealt at 8x (I was playing 8-5 BP) and it was good enough to hold.

The downside to this game, as I said before, is that it becomes too dependent upon getting dealt a good hand at 8x-12x, and on getting the multiplier popping up more times than average. The rest doesn't matter that much.
