Those college totals, as I said, had been adjusted for the actual effects of the rules changes. The ballpark tally was 48 Overs, 45 Unders, and a push or two.

Once I saw the "Week Zero" totals, I knew the oddsmakers had ignored the propaganda from the rules committee and had done their own analyses (well, of course they did).

I used an Under 40 for NW/Rutgers in a contest -- can't think of my ever having done that in a college game. Maybe once.

What makes the totals even more interesting is the number of set-up blowouts that contributed to the Overs. Those are strictly Week One things. The totals for most competitive games may wind up being really low, and deservedly so.

The other thing. Unlike the last 10 seasons or so when weather (usually hurricanes coming and going) affected Week One at least a handful of games and often more, weather was pretty much a non-factor.
