Thread: How much was your first legitimate Handpay? :D

  1. #1
I mean Legitimate Handpay in that it isn't the "Machine cash button isn't working well, so you have to have slot attendant give you your OWN money," thing. IIRC, someone said that their first Handpay was for about $1202 and the Casino Staff asked them if they wanted to take a publicity picture for that $1202 and they laughed them off! LMAO! So, how much was your first handpay?

When I first started playing most machines were set to hand-pay @ 1k.

    I can't remember, but I assume it was 4 duces on a FPDW $1 denomination for 1k.

    First taxable handpay was $2500

First actual handpay was $600 because back in the 90s when the machines dropped coins most didn’t have a big enough hopper to hold more than 400 coins so (at least on $1) so when you hit something for $400 or more it was usually a handpay.

My first taxable hand pay was around $1200.

It was $4000 Royal Flush at the Plaza Casino on Fremont street.

A little bit of a story. I moved to Vegas to continue my blackjack career. I really didn't know much about video poker and had no interest in it although I had played just a small amount at Taj Mahal in AC. As I have mentioned before, a Vegas AP, seemed to take a liking to me and shared some thoughts and ideas. One of them was that because the Vegas Casinos were in such competition for the local players, that playing some VP for the disproportionate mailer bonuses was like free money. His words were "not doing it was leaving money on the table".

So I started putting through some coin in amounts at a number of non-strip casinos. I had to figure out on my own what amounts I wanted to put through to generate different mailer bonus free play amounts. I quickly realized, I had to play at least $1 denomination, or I would be spending more time on VP than my primary play of blackjack.

Now you have to understand that I play blackjack unrated most places, unless I have a reason not to for obvious reasons. So one day a few months into this VP mailer bonus exercise, while making my rounds downtown on Fremont Street, I pop in to The Plaza to play a session of blackjack and some VP to continue the mailer bonus free play amounts. So when playing blackjack and someone asked me for a players card which they always do, I said no, giving one of my usual excuses. After that session ended, I headed to the VP machine and played my free play and was working on a predetermined amount of play through when I hit that first Royal.

So I hand over my Id and SS card and while waiting for the attendant to return, I happened to look up at the camera above that bank of machines. That is when it dawned on me that hitting handpays, which was bound to happen periodically was in direct conflict with my playing unrated, as it was rather easy for someone wanting to follow the player through the EITS.

There were no consequences from this incident, but after that I decided that I would play any free play and VP playthrough prior to blackjack play and on those occasions that I hit a handpay would skip the blackjack play at that location for the day.

The better lies worn smooth through years of use.

The not so good lies? The ones UNKewLyingJ didn't have time to perfect.

Didn't Dan Druff tell you not to hijack every thread with your bullshit trolling, which is all you ever do....you contribute nothing productive.

You have started several threads solely for the purpose of trolling me. Isn't that enough? Why do you think you should be allowed to hijack EVERY thread?

A 50c denom Royal at the Pioneer in Laughlin for $2000. Although technically I did not draw the card to make the Royal. A couple was playing on the other side of a circular bank, and the wife/gf was standing, so I called her over when the familiar Royal draw screen appeared. I am sometimes amused (and successful) in letting other people draw a single card to make a hand, although most often now a CW will usually tell you that they can't. This technique has proven unsuccessful with my wife however- she cannot EVER seem to draw the card I need despite so many opportunities. Anyway shortly after we hit the Royal, her husband/bf tells me that I should split that with her?? I told him I planned on giving her $100 but he seemed only moderately satisfied with that. I guess your average person does not grasp the amount of coin in it takes to hit one... idk... I was kind of taken aback by his comment.

What I've found interesting is the places I've hit Royals at are also places that I've played very little at. I hit one at Santa Fe Station the first, and only time, I've ever been there in like 15 minutes. Couple other places maybe 100K hands... and nothing.

My question was a joke reference to the person who had Casino Staff ask them if they wanted to take a publicity picture for around $1202! Like WHO would want to take a publicity picture for a handpay that is literally like two dollars over the threshold? I could see if it were a REALLY good Jackpot like $20,000 on a $5 bet, the publicly picture would make a lot of sense, because a $20,000 Jackpot on a $5 bet would be beyond phenomenal, but not for only like 1202.

Yes, I agree - that's pretty crazy that the person was asked for a jackpot that small.

I know, right? A crazy thought had occurred to me in the back of my mind that that maybe the reason the Casino Staff asked the person if they wanted to do a publicity picture for a 1202 Jackpot was because the Casino had been so tight that they weren't giving out many Jackpots and a 1202 Jackpot was a once in a blue moon occurrence! That would be beyond REALLY tight if the Casino was so tight that the Casino was pleasantly shocked that someone got a handpay! Like I said, crazy thought that occured in the back of my mind.

I hit a $8000 Royal flush at Sunset Station and they really tried to talk me into having my picture taken, but there was no way I would agree. Anyone familiar with Sunset station knows they not only plaster pictures of jackpot winners on their "winners wall" but also rotate some on the big electronic sign outside the casinos. At that time Stations casino had 9 casinos, including Fiestas and Palm and 8 were in my regular blackjack rotation (Palace Station was not in my rotation), so the last thing I needed was a picture of me, a guy who plays unrated on the gigantic billboard outside the casinos.

Interestingly Stations is down to 5 casinos now (full casinos with table games), as Palms was sold off and Texas Station and the two Fiestas never re-opened after covid, so Stations footprint here in Vegas is half of what it was pre-covid. Durango Station Casino is set to open in a couple months, so that will be 6 again.

See, an 8000 Jackpot is an appropriate Jackpot to ask if you want a publicity picture. Oh my God, they put the publicity pictures on the OUTSIDE of the Casino too? :O Oh my God, what in the actual fuck?. I remember Hialeah Park Casino was running a promotion where they give you $10 if you do a publicity picture in the Casino and upload it to Social Media. Apparently, a LOT of Players had qualms about having to upload their Casino pictures to Social Media. I remember asking something like,"Can't we just take the picture and not upload it to Social Media? The Player's Club Staff Member was like,"No, it has to be uploaded to Social Media. " The Player's Club Staff Member implied that MANY other Players had similar questions.

Gotta think that the Venetian is going to put "winners" faces on the outer surface of The Sphere.

If I remember correctly Stations casinos at one time, not long ago was even running a television commercial campaign where they used pictures of players that had hit a jackpots. Would any of these people (usually older folks) that agree to this, walk down the street announcing to every stranger "hey I just hit a jackpot at the casino and my wallet is bulging with cash"? That is basically what they are doing.

If you skim through UNKewLyingJ's posts in this thread, the only truthful portion will be with reference to his low end video poker play. True enough! That is what APs have been saying for years is all UNKewlJ is up to. Well, that, and some red to green action as cover for his sugar daddy plays.
