Thread: Vegas workers vote authorizes a stike

  1. #1
    .
    from the articles:

"Tens of thousands of Las Vegas hospitality workers fighting for new union contracts voted Tuesday to authorize a strike that could impact more than three dozen casinos and hotels, the city's backbone

Hospitality workers in Las Vegas have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike against major resorts along the Strip, a critical step toward a walkout as the economically challenged city prepares for major sporting events in the months ahead.

Although a vote is a forceful step, it does not guarantee that workers will strike before hashing out a new contract deal with the major resorts. Contracts for roughly 40,000 housekeepers, bartenders, cooks and food servers at MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment and Wynn Resorts expired on Sept. 15, after being extended from a June deadline. Other workers remain on extended contracts that can be terminated at any time."

apparently casino dealers and Managers and other casino personnel are not part of the vote to strike - but of course would be affected by it

I'm betting a strike does not actually happen - that there will be some resolution

The Culinary Union -- which as you wrote above basically encompasses most of the strip maids, bartenders, cooks, and food servers -- will cripple these resorts if they strike.

It's way too big and powerful. The major resorts have no choice but to back down to their demands every time. This is a growing problem.

I would think that most people on here would be anti-union because of the conservative politics that dominate.

I guess the evilness of casinos trumps all of that.
It is official. Redietz will never be on Dan Druff's podcast. "too much integrity"

    Anti-Union???
    That's dumb... really Fucking Dumb.
    Power to the People!
I hope they strike and shut the strip down!!
    Honestly, I do.
I will go out there and literally picket with them.
I have Family in that Culinary Union... it's a damn good union... really good for the worker.

Wife and i were walking into new frontier years ago during a strike. One picketer called my wife a whore among other things and came towards us. I took his sign, gave him a shot in the stomach with the pole end, then whacked him over the head with the other end.
Then we calmly walked into the casino. No repercussions. But we did exit a different way later on.

    Obviously, an outlier experience.
    And in a different era.
This is like a 1 in 100,000 chance or more.
If it was more common, you would have gotten stomped by 20 other crazies.
This isn't some sort of BLM Riot.
And why would anyone want to go into a place that is being picketed outside in a hostile situation?
If I see a bunch of crazies outside a building... I'm going somewhere else.
I've been in the Frontier and remember it well.
Not exactly the place where you want to risk getting beat down to get into but I get your point.
It's like going to Jerry's Nugget and saying I'm going into this Casino no matter what!!

You forgot that most of these people are basically bums who figured out a way to beat a few games. They work as little as possible for just enough to get by. Most are too dumb to capitalize on their opportunity.

Unions suck balls because no one should just get paid for showing up to work and putting in time. Unions have put the country back probably a 100 years. If it wasn’t for unions we probably would have flying cars and better more affordable health care choices. Unions lol another Jedi slave mind trick lol. Pay your dues to the master of the union sheep.

Imagine getting paid 90 per hour on Sundays to check out groceries at some of these union grocery stores lmao ! Replace every union job with a robot give them a bag of weed and some porn and be done with them

Maybe if the schools would teach people how money actually works people could get out of their fat blob ass way and do something productive. Instead we have a country of drug addicted lazy queers flipping genders and blobbing around doing nothing. Union dues !!!! Lol imagine a real grown ass man begging for a raise, and paying dues to a union boss lol beta Fucks.

I would Just close up all these places declare bankruptcy and tell them to go kick rocks.

I pray every single night that the Truckers and Rail Workers would not only Strike but quit and force all of us to starve.
And the Farmers too but it's all monoculture farms now owned by the Evil Empires like Monsanto.
You Fuckers have no clue... you could have easily been born in the middle of Siberia somewhere, Fucked for your entire lives.

My big argument for unions is that often people can't really pick up and move. That requires a certain level of resources that many don't have or it would just be so much. (uprooted, kids changes schools, wife loses job, etc) So the local industry can take advantage of it.

It is good for the local people that they have jobs but the flip side is that situation can easily be abused by the corporation. There is no concept of a 'market wage'. If they want to work they're stuck at the only employer in town.

Unions definitely level the playing field.

The problem is when the workers seem to use leverage to get more than they're worth. It brings about resentfulness.

Level the playing field lol they just need the right guy to break em. Be willing to go out of business walk away and let them scramble around for jobs. Take the money and close up. Reopen without a union or don’t . Or keep doing the fake negotiating skim the union dues like they do under the table to keep the slave force. Fucking union haahaaaa

IMHO the primary reason why healthcare is so poor is because the brightest minds go into theoretical physics and mathematics (since these fields are very challenging and interesting). So the healthcare industry is left with the retards.
