review of the movie "The Crd Counter"

I finally got around to watching this movie yesterday. I was actually pretty excited based on just the name prior to it's release in 2021. Wizard saw it the first day it was out and wrote a review stating the movie really wasn't about a card counter counting cards as much as the persons dark past in the military and military prision. So I shelved seeing the movie until yesterday.

Wizards review was spot on. This wasn't a movie about a card counter or counting cards. two-thirds was about his past and dealing with those demons. of the one third that was about gambling, 95% was about the poker circuit.

I found one real thruth about blackjack card counting that was stated very early in the movie. When the black lady and the card counter met and introduced themselves (they had met 4 times prior but never introduced), she referred to him as a card counter, which he first denied. She said "well you play blackjack and win, so you count cards" She asked how he had never been backed off to which he replied that he had.

He then said "casinos don't mind card counters. They don't mind card counters that win. They mind card counters that win big".

While I can't speak for other locations and this movie involved many different casino locations, This is a truth as far as Las Vegas. It is something I figured out a dozen years before this movie came out and something every player with any interest in longevity figures out. And it is why so many non-card counters, or players that no longer card count but once did, harp on someone like myself, who has been able to identify levels tolerated and achieve some longevity.

Obviously that statement does not apply to every casino, nor even every pit person. There are super sweaty casinos and pit folks and you need to learn who they are to achieve longevity. But that statement is representative of most of Las Vegas casinos and pit people and a good starting point for anyone looking to achieve longevity in counting cards in Las Vegas.

So there...amongst all the daily trolling and bullshit that benefits absolutely no one, a tiny nugget of truth that just might benefit someone (probably not in today's environment).

Otherwise didn't care for the movie. Of course I am not a poker player. Would be interested to hear if any real poker players found any value or anything interesting about the poker portions of the movie?

The reason he ran off is he was outed, again, for that nonsense about the "ACH settlement" - he kept shifting his story to try to fit with what I knew, and kept cornering himself into an untenable position until he gave up. He is a sociopathic liar - he will never admit his lies unless he is 100% caught dead to rights, and even then he'll just admit a small portion of the enormous lies that he's been handing down circled around the one admitted lie.

With him, even if there is only a 1% chance that he is not lying, still he won't 'fess up.

I also don't like his gratuitous racism and anti semitism when he gets upset. That sort of thing is low life nonsense, and given that he's some kind of Pacific Islander his acting racist is just more "Clayton Bigsby" fraudulent behavior.

I don't hate the guy I don't even dislike him (too much) but I do dislike his constant lies.

I think kewlJ doesn't understand why so many people here dislike him.

It's the seriousness with which kewlJ tells these lies, and then lashes out at those who doubt them. There's a certain arrogance to those posts, in the tone, "Of course this is fucking true, and you're a complete idiot for even doubting this."

Anyway the way this is going to play out, is as always. UNKewlJ will reappear after this, what is it, about 60th solemn oath to quit the forums or quit interacting with so and so, respond to one question that someone appears to have posed to him, under the guise of, "Because that is a reasonable respectful question, I will respond."

Another version of his return from the grave involves showing up in some innocuous thread and posting as if nothing ever happened.
