I prefer to try to put things together, more than to look for new stuff. The former is something that can be done all along, and likely isn't dependent on the latter. This morning, I had the thought that two black holes combining having an event horizon greater than or equal to that of the larger one is like the parts of an atom coming apart, by which the parts aren't so recognizable making the whole.
