Let's say you are playing a Money Train version of Buffalo. You are playing $2.50 and the Money Train rolls through and gives you $2,000. You pull out your Player's Club Card before the Slot Attendants arrive. Will they know that your Player's Club Card was in the machine when you got the $2,000 Bonus?

It is my understanding that yes, they do know. That pulling the card trick is something that used to work years ago, but no longer.

Tasha, can I ask what it is you are worried about? At the level you play (or at least that you tell us you play), you should easily be able to offset several jackpots in the low 4 figure range as far as tax liability. You do know about offseting casino reported wins, right?

The win is recorded to the players card regardless of pulling it out.

Casino staff may not check who's card was in the machine. In fact most don't.

I don't know the purpose of this question but usually someone at your level of gambling interested in pulling the card is because you want someone else to claim it. You owe money and are afraid it will be confiscated by tax collection agencies.

In some states (NY for example) they can attach past due tax to jackpots but I don't know if that's your situation.

Usually that occurs in racinos and not regular casinos. I notice you mentioned $2000 which is what many racinos are required to call an attendant over for a jackpot lockup. A bit of a coincidence?

Yes and no, afaik. Mostly no.

Offsets are allowed, but only as itemized deductions. Most people with simple finances are better off taking the standard deduction and coughing up the taxes for the jackpots.

I guess one can't really write off BJ related stuff.
It is official. Redietz will never be on Dan Druff's podcast. "too much integrity"

    You most certainly can.

then it seems unlikely you have dealt with gambling related deductions. (I never have yet i know this because I have had an opportunity to at least consider it..)

I have, do, and will report gambling winnings to the IRS but that doesn't mean it is worth keeping track of. Mr green pays for most of my motel rooms or they are heavily comped.

ps I was being sarcastic initially....................

Interesting Darkoz. I hadn't considered tax liens and debt collection liens and stuff. I was thinking maybe such a reported jackpot could affect someone's eligibility for different state government welfare type programs like foods stamps. I just didn't want to embarrass Tasha, by asking this. Maybe Rob knows.

    They also can affect welfare.

Money owed for parking violation, welfare debt, child support overdue and tax debt are all collected from jackpots in NYS.

If you are currently collecting welfare you have 50% confiscated from jackpots automatically.

Darkoz, speaking of people winning Jackpots that owe money, some people ask their Friends who are gambling in the Casino to claim the win for them and they split the money privately later. For instance, a woman named Lisa owed back taxes to the IRS. She and her friend, Patty who didn't owe any back taxes to the IRS were playing in the Casino together. Lisa asked Patty to claim the Jackpot for her as the Jackpot was exactly the same amount she owed to the IRS and she wouldn't get any of that Jackpot money for herself, all of it would go to the IRS if she claimed it herself. Lisa told Patty she would split the money with her later. So, Patty claimed the Jackpot as her own and Patty got paid and filled out the W2 and split the money later with Lisa. Casino surveillance camera later saw that LISA was the one who actually won the Jackpot and was seen talking to Patty. Patty and Lisa were both permanently banned for the deliberate switcheroo.

As long as your stated income correlates to bank deposits I don't see how you ever have a problem. The problem arises when you are acquiring substantially more assets and making substantial deposits that exceed your income.
There is a reason the majority of professional gamblers live on the fringes of society much like drug dealers and other assorted "outlaws". It is what it is and everyone has to decide individually to what degree they support the system.

Now this is something UNKewlJ might know something about - not about any jackpots, but about low end machine play.
I tell you it’s wonderful to be here, man. I don’t give a damn who wins or loses. It’s just wonderful to be here with you people.

Regal Riches/Prosperity Pearls are great examples of games where card pulling is worthwhile.

Ainsworth minors have a glitch in them too. Whenever they drop at or near the top, they never register on the card.
