Thread: Vegas hotel room rates collapse as F1 race date nears

  1. #1
Casinos raised rates a lot for F1 race. People decided it would be smart to book early. As race date nears there are major drops in room rates. Some people have non-refundable room bookings.

And the culinary union is possibly striking if they don't get their way. lol

Given covid seemed to be an excuse to cutdown on house-keeping I sure don't feel sorry for the casinos

Yeah amazingly THIS weekend is substantially more expensive than race weekend!

And race weekend, last I looked, is now the price of an average Vegas weekend. Amazing that they thought they'd be getting $1500 for standard rooms, at one point.

Also, you can now get these tickets for $1082 each, and the amount is falling each day. The seller will only get about $800 in these transactions, after fees: https://www.stubhub.com/formula-1-gl...matedFees=true

Why would anyone in their right mind spend that kind of money to watch an F1 race?

    BORING...just "follow the leader."

The days of competitive, fun to watch races featuring guys like Senna and Prost have passed, alas.
    What, Me Worry?

I'm not sure how much they'd have to pay me to fill a seat. But I certainly wouldn't want to sit out in the cold to watch a few cars zip by every 90 seconds or so....RIP

Nascar races are boring enough until the last couple laps, but at least there you may see the entire track at all times.
I tell you it’s wonderful to be here, man. I don’t give a damn who wins or loses. It’s just wonderful to be here with you people.

I would think that you would be the type of person to attend that race. You seem to like all that see and be seen type of stuff. I wouldn't even go if it was in a luxury box and free.

They have tactical teams clearing the tunnels that extend below the Strip for the race. So VCT's very own FraudJ won't be able to poke his head up thru the grates to catch a glimpse.

FraudJ will probably try to visit the Strip during F1 to make his bones hustling as usual.

Didn't plan on being here for F1 so never got around to asking for any rooms or tickets.

They also didn't realize that Vegas gets rain in the winter. Guess what's in the forecast for Nov 16?

The Vegas streets get slippery when it rains.

    WHY?

I've seen blankets or whatever on their tires. Also I'm sure the manufacturer probably just uses a different rubber mixture for cold weather, rain, or whatever. Sounds like the only thing affected is how many different tire types to have on hand. They might not have thought of it but surely they can deal with something this simple.

I don't know who is responsible for this great idea of F1 in Vegas, but that person should be fired. This is the stupidest thing. And that is before the manhole covers started flying last night.

There are some things that they bring to Vegas that just make no sense. Nascar itwice a year is one of them. Nascar fans as a group are not big gamblers. They are nascar fans. THAT is what they spend their disposable money on. Sure they will fill up some of the lower end hotels, but it is just not a great fit.

The rodeo, which will be following Formula1 to town in 2 weeks is another. Those people are NOT gambling people. It is not a great fit. Rodeo week is actually a good time to gamble because they have extra tables open thinking these people will gamble and they never do. You would think after 20 years they would have figured that out.

Now things like the different basketball tournaments, (there are 4 conferences that hold their tournament in Vegas each year) are a good fit. Sports people are gamblers. They should shoot for as many events like that as they can. Superbowl will be HUGE this year.

In addition to Formula 1 just being the wrong kind of people, that don't gamble, this event and preparation has fucked up the city and traffic which is already a nightmare, 100 fold. Is Vegas actually going to make any money other than filling some hotel rooms, and I suspect not nearly what they think? Did Formula 1 pay big bucks to shut down traffic for a month and tear up the street? There is not a single person I have talked to that lives in Vegas that cared one bit about Formula1, other than the traffic nightmare.
Dan Druff: "there's no question that MDawg has been an obnoxious braggart, and has rubbed a ton of people the wrong way. There's something missing from his stories. Either they're fabricated, grossly exaggerated, or largely incomplete".

Putting a bunch of "resorts" in a wasteland of a desert wasn't a good fit either

Oh, I don't know...back in the day it made sense as Nevada was THE ONLY PLACE Americans had to legally gamble, or get a quick divorce.

Its remote location has allowed development to occur in part because land initially was and in some places still is so damned cheap; LV is also close enough to So Cal to draw them for the weekend.

It was a brilliant idea to have the airport so close to the strip.

No complaints by me about the development of sin city, except I prefer the convenience of tribal casinos these days.
