The airport, Harry Reid international (<-, just for the lib haters) is a funny situation. Of course when it was built, it was just south of the southern most place on the strip. All the land south, towards South Point and to the east toward Henderson was just open space (except for Wayne Newtons spread a mile east, which at the time was in the middle of nowhere.) Now that area both south and east is all built up and if you look at a map of Metro Vegas the airport is right dab smack in the middle.

I am surprised at some point the didn't build a new airport further out, maybe down toward the M before that area started growing. But the powerful taxicab lobby group probably wouldn't have stood for it. They have a monopoly of getting people from the airport to the strip. Any further away and people might balk at the price.

Anyone who questions how powerful the taxicab lobby is, just go to the end of the monorail at the back of MGM about a 100 yards away from the corner of the airport property. It would have taken less than half a mile to extend the monorail to the airport terminal and transport people much more efficiently that 1000 taxicabs. Ever been to the airport on a Friday afternoon and evening and seen literally 500 taxicabs lined up? What a waste.
Dan Druff: "there's no question that MDawg has been an obnoxious braggart, and has rubbed a ton of people the wrong way. There's something missing from his stories. Either they're fabricated, grossly exaggerated, or largely incomplete".

From some NPR article. This is literally the only positive spin on the race. Pretty fucking lol at that. This is the only metric.

The CEO of Liberty Media told Yahoo Finance the event is expected to bring in more than $1 billion to the local economy. And already, at least one casino, Ceasars Entertainment, has broken its F1 betting record for the race, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
It is official. Redietz will never be on Dan Druff's podcast. "too much integrity"

ChET broke it's FU record! What was the previous number? $250? How many FU races have been posted in a LV sports book? Talk about spin.....

And they didn't even print the actual amount so we could compare it so say the SuperBowl.

If they do this again next year I will not go anywhere near the strip 30 days before, or after, the event. Even more than a week later you still couldn't even walk down the sidewalk in front of Bellagio, they diverted you into the casino... huge PITA. So much pedestrian stuff blocked off or diverted. It was faster to walk than Uber anywhere on the strip because of the excessive back ups. Lesson learned.
