I gotta say, I never thought this day would come. When I moved to Vegas in late 2009, Big Blue, or the blue monster as I called it, was already sitting idle, with all work having ceased. And that is how it sat, supposedly 90% finished for well over a decade, through several different ownerships and new plans. For many years the area surrounding the blue monster was fenced off because pieces were literally falling off and crashing to the ground. You would see broken glass inside the fenced perimeter. At one point one of the cranes that had been sitting idle on the top came crashing down

And through the various new ownerships and plans to breathe new life into the blue monster, I always figured the most likely scenario would have been to bring it down and start over. I don't really know about these things, but kind of figured that sitting there in the elements rotting for a decade with no maintenance, it probably wouldn't be up to standard or code. I guess it is.

So the opening to the public was last night before midnight. I am not in a hurry to check it out as I was last week with Durango, but will probably make my way up that way over the weekend when I am on the strip. The parcel of land it sits on is small and odd shaped, so the casino floor cannot be very big unless it spans a couple floors like Circa.

I am more interested to see what comes next for that northern strip area. For a long time north of Wynn/Encore, there was nothing but Circus Circus, Riviera, half finished Big Blue and a bunch of touristy-souvenir type shops and strip malls, plus some open space. Now Riviera is gone (torn down to make room for the convention center expansion which is now complete), Big Blue is open, Resorts World opened. You figure something needs to be done to upgrade or rebuild Circus Circus, which is now owned by the old guy that owns T.I.

A renovated Sahara is a couple blocks further north. There is a large open parcel of land directly across the street from Sahara, that is owned by MGM and they use for events and concerts from time to time, but you wonder if they have future plans for something in a rejuvenated North Strip area. There also is a parcel of land next to Sahara between the strip and Paradise Road that was rumored to be a basketball arena for an NBA team.

I do find it hard to believe that a guy who's admittedly only given minimal action gets 21k in bonuses with only a 4.7 x rollover. No need to tell me you get better deals when negotiating with your account manager, I bet I told you that in the first place.

My boring, old story has remained consistent, because it is the truth. I am not out to impress anyone, nor writing some kind of fiction story. I just shared my experiences and journey.
