Maybe i don't quite understand how our digestive system operates, but it is my understanding that our body breaks down, absorbs and uses what it can and disposes of the remainning material which cannot be absorbed via excretion.

My question: given all the advances we have made, why aren't we any closer to inventing a "perfect" food, one which contains only components which will be entirely absorbed in the colon, leaving no remainder to be excreted?

No shit: with such a food we may never need to throw stinky offerings at the porcelain god.

I remember it being questioned why God created humans to be poop machines.
Take comfort in the fact that no one is actually backing up his wishes to have you permanently banned.

If you subsisted on a diet of only Perfect Food for too long your colon muscles might atrophy from lack of use. Then, when you really needed them because you didn't have access to Perfect Food for some reason, you would be shit out of luck. I suppose stool softeners and laxatives could help, but they work best on people whose bowel muscles are mostly functional. Perfect Food would have to be eaten in moderation.

This tiny, white vision of the future had its roots in late 19th Century feminism. In the lead up to the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, the American Press Association asked writers from a number of fields to promote the event by writing essays on what they thought the world of 1993 might look like. Their work was published in small town newspapers across the country. American suffragette Mary Elizabeth Lease predicted that by 1993, humans would only eat synthetic food, liberating women from the drudgery of the kitchen. People would “take, in condensed form from the rich loam of the earth, the life force or germs now found in the heart of the corn, in the kernel of wheat, and in the luscious juices of the fruits. A small phial of this life from the fertile bosom of Mother Earth will furnish men with substance for days. And thus the problems of cooks and cooking will be solved.”
This was certainly the case for the women’s club in Missouri which held a “Year 2000” dinner event in 1944. A variety of meal pills were served: tutti-frutti pills, a brown pill for the meat course and a miniature chocolate pellet for dessert. The ladies in attendance were no doubt content to “play future”, until reality came back to bite them. Records show that after the pills they all sat down to coffee and plates of sandwiches.

Defecating too much isn't the problem, it is truly not defecating enough. We're walking around with piles of shit every day we keep with us until we die. It is the whole point of eating fiber and most of us don't and corporate America doesn't really want us to poop.

Sorry, but, things change as we become older. And, then, we try to rationalize them away to avoid confronting the fact that, in a sense, each of us is already dead, and forgotten. I forgive myself.

Our bodies are built to process a variety of nutrients, and waste is just a natural part of that. Even if we could create something like this, it might mess with how our digestive system works since the whole process of digestion and excretion plays a big role in keeping us healthy.

Honestly, trying to eliminate waste completely could cause more harm than good. Our gut, for example, needs a certain balance to stay healthy, and getting rid of waste is part of that. So, while the idea sounds cool, it’s probably not something that would work well with how our bodies are designed.
If we eliminated you through our bowels is that also super interesting & cool?
