Thread: How does your casino "rate" free play?

  1. #1
I just got a question by email -- and frankly, it's something I never thought about before.

The question: do all casinos count free play in slot/video poker machines as actual coin in? Or do they separate it out from actual coin in?

The question comes from a casino regular who said he sees that he gets credits on his players card as he plays through "free play" which he describes as a bonus on top of a bonus. I can confirm that -- my player's "points" increase as I use free play at both Rincon and Caesars. But do all casinos have the same policy?

Then this question: when the casino figures your win/loss does the free play count as actual coin in which offsets your wins, or is it segregated from actual coin in so that it doesn't offset your wins? I can't answer that question.

The questioner wants to know if this affects several things:

    1. win/loss for tax records
    2. casino win/loss for future promotions
    3. casino win/loss for comps

Anybody ever think about this before?

I don't get a huge amount of free play but I know what some of the casinos I play at do. It goes both ways. At the Hard Rock in LV, your free play does not accumulate points. At the Palms and Ellis Island it does. I don't know how anything that happens when playing free play is reflected in my won or loss statements I get at the end of each year.
