Maybe to insure it didn't turn into a personal vendetta, it would be best to have a team or handful of known APs decide what is and isn't fiction. People like Mickey and maybe axelwolf and a few others. But that decision would need to be on merit rather than vindictive. It can't be "I don't believe someone because I don't believe them". It would need to be I don't believe them because the math says you can't win 50 hands in a row or roll 18 y.o.s in a row.

I have contacted Todd to express my concerns. I also inquired just about a year ago if he had an interest in selling the forum. He said no. We didn't even get to discussing a price, but I wouldn't have paid much. It just seemed like he had no real interest in this forum, other than preserving the content he had posted which I surely would have done. Seems like he has even less interest now a year later. I also would have had an interest in leasing the site or more precisely the administrative duties and responsibilities while he retained ownership. But again, he made it clear he wasn't interested in doing anything so we didn't even get into that.

I sort of had a plan in my head of how to make the forum more of an actual gambling, advantage play, casino, Las Vegas discussion forum and attract new members that I think would happen fairly quickly. The plan did not involve immediately banning anyone, although there would be some members that didn't like my direction and would leave.

That plan was as follows: New rules:.
1. Enough of all this gun talk and talk of shooting people, members or not. There is too much of that and it has only gotten worse.
2. Absolutely No doxing of anyone. I would want to draw new AP members and most won't set foot near a forum where doxing is permitted as it has been here. People need to understand what an anonymous forum is. I am looking at YOU redietz.
3. Absolutely no talk of finding or tracking someone down off forum unless it was an agreed upon meeting by both parties. (same reason as #2
4. Any accusations about another member, something like say homelessness for example, if that member objected, the accuser would need to prove the accusation. If he could not he would be required to retract the statement and refrain from repeating it. Failure to do so, would result in account being "frozen" until he complied. Reason, it isn't right just to smear people with complete bullshit. That is not light trolling or friendly banter.
Probably a couple more rules that some wouldn't like.

There also would be a bit of a format change. There would be some new and distinct sections. EVERYTHING wouldn't just be lumped into the Las Vegas section. That is weird. There would be an AP section for anyone wishing to discuss any advantage play they are doing. Other members could challenge what was shared, and express doubt respectfully, but there wouldn't be all the name calling and that occurs now. And of course the original poster would have the opportunity to explain himself further.

There would be a section to discuss gambling that wasn't advantage play. Maybe some roulette play, or bingo play, or any trip report that was a recreational type trip. I personally enjoy reading those. I would like to hear more of someone like MrV's gambling experiences for example.

And there would be a "voodoo" section. Not sure if that would be the name or it might be something gentler, but that is where stories and claims of things like EvenBob's 80% roulette would ultimately end up. And much of Singer's and Mdawg's claims would probably end up there as well. At WoV, Mdawgs adventure thread was relegated to that type of section for the first two years, until he talked his way out of it.

If someone were to write stories and claims of say winning nearly every day, and casinos allowing it, upon being challenged, he would have to explain how that was possible when the claims defied either or the math or the way the casino industry works. Inability to explain and the claim/story would be off to the "voodoo" section until he could. Just wouldn't allow people to say I flap my arms and fly and that is what we have here.

I would try to build back more membership by first making it known through my blackjack friends and contacts that I was running the forum and the things that kept or drove many members away were no more. Hopefully that would bring a few more blackjack players and lead to more blackjack discussion.

But I am looking for more than just an alternative to one of the blackjack forums. I would encourage mickeycrimm and all the other machine players to continue to share and talk about machine play. I would like to have more volume and better sports betting discussion. I would encourage mickey, redietz and half smoke to engage in more sports betting discussion, which seems to have more interest of late, including some of the different bonus whoring activity, like I have been doing. Also including anyone's sports picks that wanted to go on record doing so, including Dan Druff to continue his sports picks. Lets see how we all do picking sports.

I think this forum could be turned into a legitimate gambling discussion forum, and not just a sewer troll forum. And we could maintain some friendly type banter that DRuff mentioned, but come on people, that is NOT what we currently have. And if we lost a few people that have proven they only want to troll along the way so be it.

But instead we are a troll sewer type forum, losing a few more members each and every year. I guess that will continue, with or without me, should I ever give up on this place.

The thing is, if and when I were to buy it, I wouldn't announce it and the terms of the purchase would preclude Todd mentioning that I bought it. I have enough folks in my six degrees of separation (brother-in-law is a PI doing 90% online work; nephew is an online-forensics major) that I'm relatively confident I could ID half the people on here pretty quickly. That's what I was told -- 50/50 I could ID each poster without killing myself. That's motive enough for me to check in with Todd each year to see if he wants to sell.

Here are my statements regarding the various matters and concerns raised...


Regarding enforcement of rules: I do not like banning or restricting people. I generally like my forums to run themselves, and for people to work out their own problems. Occasionally I have to step in and delete posts, combine threads, restrict users, etc. But I don't enjoy doing it, and prefer to take a hands-off approach. The rules are a guideline on how to behave here. I am not promising to enforce every rule at every moment, much like the highway patrol is not promising to watch every stretch of highway for speeders. The rules mainly exist so, when I do take action, nobody can bitch about not knowing the expectations here. This will NEVER be a forum like Wizard of Vegas, where rules are strictly enforced and bans/suspensions are frequently handed out. This forum will always have a much lighter touch, as it did when Alan was running things.

Regarding selling this forum: I have had numerous offers to buy this forum. None of been for staggering money, but probably for more than you think. I am not interested in selling this place. If someone came to me with a startling offer for big money, then yes I'd sell it. But short of that, I am simply not interested in letting it go.

Regarding how this forum should be run: Anyone is welcome to start a competing forum at any time, and you can see if you do any better. Maybe it will be successful, maybe it won't. But there are already several AP/casino themed forums out there, so I don't see why we need any more. I also don't see why people complain about this place, as there are many other choices if you want a more moderated forum.
